    Groovy :-) what a great upcycle/repurpose! I have tried Sashiko a few years back using navy blue linen fabric and the traditional thick white thread and a special Sashiko needle that is very sharp. Our patchwork class made lined needle cases with a pocket. The hardest thing was figuring out how to pin the lining to make the pocket on the correct side when it was sewn and turned out! Required thinking in reverse too much for my brain.
    The Sashiko design was made on a grid marked with a tailors pencil and running stitches first horizontally then vertical and finally diagonally both ways. Whilst we used the correct thread, needle and fabric that our teacher got for us, another member of the class made a few more needle cases using ordinary coloured threads and denim so embroidery floss would work well too.
    Recommend books on Sashiko by Susan Briscoe if anyone is interested in learning more.
    Thanks for sharing yet another great idea Julia :-)

    Hi Julia, thanks for sharing your ideas!! I thoroughly enjoyed this one as I, too, have researched sashiko and ordered some needles and the thread they use from a website I found by searching SASHIKO...I didn’t get any further than that basically, but with your inspiration today, Im apt to get out the whole bunch and DO SOMETHING...not sure what yet, but your ideas just grew as you went along, I want to do the same! All I have to do is start I think and the rest should fall into place, Im confident to go for it now BEST, CHERYL🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

      JJULIA I just ran across your post, I love it I too recycle old jeans and jean clothing. I love thrift stores and used to spend a lot of time in resale stores. But some years ago I had stroke and now I don't sew as much as I used to . I did restyle a jean skirt and because it was so short I added men's old ties to the bottom and when I wore it I received a lot of compliments. Wish I could send you a pic, but I am not good with this new technology . I am a senior lady and some of the new stuff confuses me sometimes. Is it anyway I can contact you and let you see a couple of things I have recycled? You are so smart and talented, I love what you do and the few things I have seen are just great!! My email is HelenWillis 679@ yahoo.com Be blessed and continue creating!!!

  • @LarkOnWheels

    Julia, do you have any ideas for lengthening a knit top? I thought maybe lace or a strip of chiffon, but I’m not sure how durable either would be. Thanks!

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I've used lace to add length. Maybe look in a thrift store for something that would work. I found a lace vest that I was able to use for this purpose. The lace was heavier (a cotton crocheted lace) that worked great. Possible even a patchwork strip of different prints would work. Just idea! Thanks for watching, Julia

    How did you get the leg of jeans under your needle?

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, On this pair I opened up the side seam of the jeans. However most of the time I just slide the leg over my open arm and use free motion stitching to get the embellishments in place. With FMS you can sew forward, sideways and backwards making it easy to sew in close areas. Thanks for watching, Julia
