    Interesting comment about the ZM and Border FW-190 kits...I'm finding that most kits have a decent level of detail and accuracy. But at the same time it's the details in the instructions and how well those instructions are laid out that give me the most fits. Hence I find Tamiya the standard in the instructions. I wish everybody would do pre-painted canopies for WW2 planes!

    Hmm, I ended up buying the standard Lanc.from Tamiya in 1/48 scale. I've noticed the pre-painted canopies are not painted correctly for the rear-turret. The framing should be black, rather than the green colour they use. It maybe due to the fact that they might expect you to do the Grand-Slam version by default. But this is the standard version which has an all-black fuselage.

    Hi peter the original kit came out in black plastic with raised panel lines and no pre painted canopy frames,please be careful if putting in the air crew as you can’t get the crew to fit in the seats as they look quite big when compared with other 48 scale figures.when first issued the Lancaster came out in the mid 70’s and it was the queen of Tamiya 48 scale kits,some people will moan/groan about certain areas of construction but i built my dambuster in the mid 80s with no Tamiya extra thin never even heard of anything like that back then i can’t remember the actual glue but it was not tube glue, i finished the whole build by painting it with Humbrol enamel paints no such thing as acrylic paint and i was using my best no3 sable brush for the whole job,because of what you were building and the fact it was at the time probably one of the best kits anywhere ,you felt so on top of the world actually building the Tamiya lanc it cost me approx £25 from Beatties model shop empire ,probably the biggest in the whole country.Anybody if comparing the HK lanc with this one and bought the Tamiya because of price should not feel cheated because when built you would have a lovely and impressive Lancaster,whichever version or make you build.

    another stupendous review Peter and beverage recommendations. I am no expert on aircraft but was it a design quirk of A.V.Roe to locate the pilot on his own to do all the pushing and shoving. I believe the Vulcan was originally designed that way but at the last minute the RAF changed the spec to locate the second officer next to the pilot hence the extremely cramped cockpit.

    • @scurvy8895
      @scurvy8895 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the answer lies in the pedigree of the design which was originally a “large twin engine “ with a gross weight of 26,000 lbs instead of a 4 engine of 65,000lbs gross. The Sterling was actually spec’d as a 4 engine heavy and has 2 pilot positions as expected

    I agree Peter, every aircraft kit should come with a full crew and a mini diorama with figure/figures for each 1/72 AFV kit. If not, please market a separate set of figures/dio parts under the brand. It would be nice to model an aircraft in flight and not have to hunt for crew figures or pay a bomb for an aftermarket set. As for 1/72 AFVs, a small and simple dio would add context to the vehicle and as you said, increase shelf appeal. I cannot say this enough. 😁

      @@iangascoigne8231 I am not sure about that...Airfix keep saying there is no market for dioramas, stands & pilots in their kits...well I strongly disagree as when Matchbox did all these things and better, they took half of Airfix's market share! We seem to have a generation with no imagination who can't see that making your product different makes it desireable by differentiating it. They joy of those little scenes lives on long after the price is forgotten.

      @@iangascoigne8231 please take a look at how many aftermarket companies there are making crew figures for model aircraft to get an idea on whether there’s a market for these. These are awesome resin figures and I buy some for special builds. But I cannot afford to populate all my aircraft models with these lovely but pricey figures. I need simple pilot / crew figures to put into those aircraft that I model in-flight. They don’t have to be as finely sculpted as their aftermarket brethren - they just have to be relatively inexpensive (or come with the kit) and look adequate behind a 1/72, 1/48 or 1/32 aircraft canopy or gun turret. Is that asking too much? 😊

    Unfortunately, again, I was too tired to watch the stream but I'm watching it now. I haven't built much kits in 1/48, for decades it has been mostly 1/72 and 1/35 but the last couple of years also increasingly 1/48 scale. This Lancaster isn't the latest kit but it's by Tamiya, so how bad can it be. Some time ago you reviewed that horribly expensive 1/32 kit, but this one would actually fit on one of my display shelves and seems to be decently priced. I've only built one Lancaster in my life, the old Matchbox 1/72 scale model (PK-602). With hindsight it wasn't among my best builds, I did paint it but overall it looked mediocre. However I enjoyed building it it was quite large for my age.
