Nice to see a SAAB getting the attention it deserves. My biggest regret about my motoring career is that I never could afford a SAAB when they were a current brand.
OMG you really missed out. I'm 55 years old living in the US just north of Boston. My first experience with Saab cars was in my teens my best friend got 1989 Saab 900 turbo I loved it. I've owned 5 since then. I just purchased a 2011 9-3 convertible with just 65K on it. Java Metallic with tan cloth top. It's beautiful I feel blessed to experience this all over again. My daily is a 2020 Volvo but it isn't a SAAB.
I wish SAAB were still around. They made some fantastic cars & I could imagine if they were they would make some unbelievable cars with todays technology etc etc !
I have a 1985 Saab 900i with a new MoT in silver and on Ronal Minilites like this. Mine has done 166,000 miles. Runs fine. I’ve had 11 Saab 900’s. I’ve also got a 1982 built Saab 99 in silver & on Minilites. These cars are dependable! Last forever & usually start first time even after a long period of off the road. Don’t knock Saab’s. Join the Saab Enthusiasts Club.
Hi, do you know any real mechanics that can find and fit new brake calipers/pads etc to a 1991 900i? I keep being told there is no parts for 900i Classics.
Beautiful car , well worth a full restoration, old saabs had so much character, i loved my 99 combi coupe , it was my daily driver for 5 years , I was sad when I sold it 😮, wish I never had now 😊
They are comfortable. The rear seats in a 1989 900 aero/SPG are special. Lovely, soft leather. Mine were still in perfect condition when the car was 24 years old.
Nice. Well done. My first SAAB was an Australian spec 1984 900 turbo (TU5M) in exactly this colour with the same seats. I bought it in 1988 and sold it in 1999. It was a good car. We did many long (1,100 miles each way) trips for a few years in temperatures up to 44C. It was good enough that I've stayed with the brand. The 1984 turbo was replaced in 1999 by a 1989 900 Aero/SPG (TU3M) in white. That was replaced by a 2007 9-3 Aero (2.8 V6) manual in 2012.
A friend at school's Father was a Saab fan. He usually changed every four years. Not that there was much difference back then, but he was friendly with his local dealer so each year, they'd "upgrade" his 900 to whatever the latest tweak was!
Another well-done video, Claire & Elton! It did clean up pretty good & though it may be a patts car, it IS complete, a huge bonus. Lol, @ 1:15 you did set yourself up for that Elton. Cheers from the USA!
Another great video. I do love a Saab 900. This one is more than a little crusty. Well done both of you for the clean. I’m glad Claire got a new cassette for her collection 😀
I'm surprised it's rusted out so bad considering it's Swedish and was stored in a barn. My boss in the 80s had one. I used to drive it. I was only 19 and loved it. It was very luxurious (I owned a Mini 850). Always gave it a good burn up on the A30.
When you started to clean it I thought 'well it's not too bad' Then opening the doors I could see bits falling off so it is likely the underside is rotten. On the plus side the interior is in good condition and despite the headlining sagging it may be savable. It will be interesting to see if the engine is free and if it runs that will be a bonus. Edward does well and earns his keep getting rid of the cobwebs for Claire and he doesn't argue! Thanks for the post Elton and Claire. 👍👍
Had one of these as a company car during the late 80’s, metallic Ruby Red as far as I can recall. 2litre 16v, just an all-around brilliant car and a great shame they don’t produce any more, sad when they started rebadging Vauxhalls.
Worked with Saab in the eighties great looking cars timeless styling and yes I ended up buying and selling these for many years The wheels aren't minlites they are Saab accessories back in the day and like the roof visor dealer added
From across the pond. My friend Elizabeth (originally from St. Ouen, Jersey CI) and I do like tasks with lawn mowers. She finds them as she assists on school buses. I pick them up and get them running. She really sells them as she then does the hair and make-up. Thanks. Narragansett Bay
The car cleaned up very good. Both of you did a great job! If a person didn't look at the bottom third of the car it could almost be a restoration project. Especially with how clean and good shape the interior is in. As Elton said it's a good parts car. Great about the Enya tape. I really enjoy listening to her. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing with us. Cheers
Good morning Claire and Elton i love watching you on your TH-cam videos on your TH-cam channel I hope both of you are all well please keep safe and well and please keep up your good work on your you tube channel cheeers
With this video i became your subscriber. Considering the SAAB it will need a brave person to tackle the rust issues. Aside that, in my humble opinion it should be saved. I would love to bring it over to Cyprus and have it sorted. It is a fine piece of automotive engineering and history. Thank you for reading and keep going with your channel
Another great video guys. My son in law had one of these and garaged it after it's last mot ran out with the hope of getting it back on the road one day but it wasn't to be. It was a lovely motor, mechanically sound but the underneath was rotten sadly. Sending you my best wishes
I had one until 2001 when the bottom was unfortunately rusted through. Same color and you could tell it was spring when you could open the sunroof. Of course manual transmission. Automatic is for amateurs. I loved it and still miss it. Safe and secure on Swedish winter roads especially when you lived in the countryside. Snowstorms were no problem. Just put in a low gear and chew your way through the snow.
Thanks for showing us the unpeeling of the old Swede. 😉 I love your "automobile archeology" channel. I saw you two (with child in tow) at the NEC. I hope you enjoyed the show.
I had 2 SAABs, they complete me, they make you feel special. I had a 1981 99GL then a 1982 900GLS, the car world's best kept secret, how a SAAB makes you feel. Memories of travelling flat-out from Birmingham to Cumbria at 135mph all day long. No cameras back then. Interiors are indestructible and mechanically they are pretty robust indeed. Shame its a parts car. I think you'd love it if you got it running.
I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who’s owned a Saab and not liked it. They must have built some seriously good cars in their day. It’s a shame this one has deteriorated so far. A few years ago, it might have stood a lot better chance. You never know, though, somebody may take it on.
Parts car for sure, in my book. Some nice accessories if they can be removed without breaking. Too much rust in the places that are visible gives a clue to what the floor plan and inner guards must be like. The wheels, dashboard and wind deflector are the marketable items at first glance
I had same year same colour 3 door 900 Turbo. This interior is excellent and some bits of paint, the doors sounded like that back in the day. At 7 years old I found the first rust hole underneath, so they are far from rust prrofed underneath
Thanks for saving this one, even if only as a parts car. It may be saveable but would require a total stripdown to establish the facts. Regardless, I imagine a saab owner would love this as a source of spares. Thanks for posting.
The tape collection is similar to my family's. We also had Classic Experience II and New Hits '96..! And multiple Enya tapes - she lived around the corner from us here in Dublin.
It cleaned up quite well, the interior does look nice, even with all the rot around the edges it could be quite bad underneath, I'm sure it'll be a good parts car
When I was young I had a boss who had a Saab - I couldn’t understand his obsession. 35 years later, on my third Saab I get it !!! And do check underneath - they were built like tanks. My 2006 93 vert has just had a clean bill of health on its MoT with the ex-Saab mechanic commenting on those solid parts.
Surprisingly solid considering where it was sat, other leaser brands would be so much rustier! Plus you wouldn't be able to open the doors on them without them falling off (Escort springs to mind). Any that interior looks mint!
You got yourselves a new fan, love these finds & the transformation..Nice work folks you might aswell adopt me to do some washing for you,i really love the transformations and the classics, great show guys… If I may ask coz I’m new on this channel what do you do with these cars that you find & do you like purchase them I mean like for ownership..
Iam the present custodian of Dad's Cabrio1988 turbo 900 Saab, tan seats, burgundy. It's a low mileage car, and in good order, but the one lmbought for its soft top is well worked and seriously corroded. If it was a high value marque then restoring it would make sense, but sadly, like Claire and Elton's example, a professional job would never see a profit on the sum invested, which is a shame, as the mechanicals and interior are no doubt in great shape
It is a great car indeed. My first car was a 1996 Saab 900 S, also an automatic. It was my dad's old car. I'm surprised you were able to find one of these older ones in automatic. Very rare for one of those and here in the US the automatic transmissions were not all that great on those cars. No idea how they held up in the UK but the manual gearboxes also had some issues on those back in the day I do remember. That being said, based on what I'm seeing in this video it does not look good for this car unfortunately. That's not to say that it can't be saved, but there is an awful lot of rust on that car that I'm seeing in areas that are integral to the overall structure of the car. That can be very difficult and/or sketchy to repair if you don't have the proper training or equipment to do it correctly. We still have yet to see the undercarriage of this car up on a lift. But if it's anything like what we've already seen or worse then I think this will have to become a parts car.
Great to see you both back on the channel I love Saab cars but sadly It looks like a parts car. Great seats for someone with a good car that has seen a lot of wear. Keep on doing what you do... You can't win them all
My mom had a Saab like that back when I was a kid in Sweden. The whole family hated it so much. It smelled a lot of gasoline inside. My grandma and grandma helped finance her a brand new Corolla in 2006 or 07. Nevertheless childhood memories
Nice to see a SAAB getting the attention it deserves. My biggest regret about my motoring career is that I never could afford a SAAB when they were a current brand.

I have to say I love your channel, we need more people like you to save these old classic cars.
Thank you Mike 🙏
I'm an other classic saver :)
I wish SAAB were still around. They made some fantastic cars & I could imagine if they were they would make some unbelievable cars with todays technology etc etc !
They are still around, search on: Saab Jas 39 Gripen 😊
Defo worth saving what a lovely car, the cost defo out weighs the value but defo deserves the love 🙏
Definitely a timeless classic
Watchin it get cleaned is well satisfying

It’s definitely worth putting back on the road
3:54 "moss security" yeah right 😂
Amazing. People cleaning cars. That's entertainment.
Sure is, we’re the new football.
I watched a whole 20 minute video of some guy cleaning a filthy carpet recently. It was mesmerising 😂
Nice video Claire, glamorous as always ;) looking forward to Elton trying to start the motor at some point!
The back seat look so comfortable.
They are comfortable. The rear seats in a 1989 900 aero/SPG are special. Lovely, soft leather. Mine were still in perfect condition when the car was 24 years old.
I love the Saab 900 !
Good stuff, I used to love these 900s.
What a great car to bring back and restore, would hope someone will take on the challenge.
Nice. Well done. My first SAAB was an Australian spec 1984 900 turbo (TU5M) in exactly this colour with the same seats. I bought it in 1988 and sold it in 1999. It was a good car. Just one of the coolest car shapes ever, I still have never had a 900 turbo, got to scratch that itch soon!
Great car in it's day
Well cleaned
Thanks 😁 got to love a Saab!!
It would have been fun to drive her around for a while with all the green mold or moss or whatever that stuff was. She looks to be in great shape.
A friend at school's Father was a Saab fan. He usually changed every four years. Not that there was much difference back then, but he was friendly with his local dealer so each year, they'd "upgrade" his 900 to whatever the latest tweak was!
SAAB - The Legend!
Absolutely love the classic 900 Saabs and it's amazing how you've cleaned it up. I wish I had the time and space ww were always a family of Saabs
Another well-done video, Claire & Elton! It did clean up pretty good & though it may be a patts car, it IS complete, a huge bonus.
Lol, @ 1:15 you did set yourself up for that Elton.
Cheers from the USA!
The things we do to keep our partners happy, eh? 😂 ~ Elton
@UKBarnFinds Lol, yes sir! Knowing which choices to battle is KEY!!
Another great video. I do love a Saab 900. This one is more than a little crusty. Well done both of you for the clean.
I’m glad Claire got a new cassette for her collection 😀
Honestly I’m over the moon about the Enya cassette…..yes I’m easily pleased 😂 So glad you enjoyed the video ~Claire
I'm surprised it's rusted out so bad considering it's Swedish and was stored in a barn. My boss in the 80s had one. I used to drive it. I was only 19 and loved it. It was very luxurious (I owned a Mini 850). Always gave it a good burn up on the A30.
I like these and for a car that's been outside for 20+ years it doesn't look too bad
We really like them too, they were so ahead of their time. Still haven’t driven one though…..yet 😉
Excellent love watching you both together excellent content as always ❤
Nice 👌
My father had 1 of these, lovely cars.

Beauty wheels on it,my favorite style!

Triumph slant 4 under the bonnet!!
Saab stopped using the Triumph derived engine in 1977. They brought engine building in-house in 1972.
This is the B201 engine which was based on a triumph design, but it was heavily redesigned be SAAB.
No that's saabs H type engine from 1981 , wish I had a pound for everyone of these I fitted a modified timing chain and tensioner kit too ,
@@thomascatford2627😂 Same in DK 😊
Looks mint from inside.
Great video guys. Worth watching the cleaning transformation 😂. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼
Worked with Saab in the eighties great looking cars timeless styling and yes I ended up buying and selling these for many years
The wheels aren't minlites they are Saab accessories back in the day and like the roof visor dealer added
At 4:54 you can see "MINILITE ENGLAND" on the rim of the wheel.
Love a Saab!

Sure there be someone out there would take it on
We hope so, but the last few barn find Saabs we've taken to auction have flopped spectacularly.
Cheers
I learnt to drive in my father's early 80s saab 900 2.0l.
Yorkshire car restoration would make this lovely old Saab like new again!
Albeit it would cost a small fortune 😅
Good morning Claire and Elton i love watching you on your TH-cam videos on your TH-cam channel I hope both of you are all well please keep safe and well and please keep up your good work on your you tube channel cheeers
Thank you. It’s always nice to see you pop up in the comments and we hope you have a lovely day.
A brilliant channel guys keep it up
I have always love SAAB cars. They are so beautiful. It's a pity thy company doesn't exist anymore.
My old boss used to love these and had 3 in succession. Luxury inside but they were very expensive to maintain.
He never washed them 😮
The SAAB I had 4 thew the years love them .. I am now looking for a rag top 900 ❤
Nice looking car, nearly bought a cab version last year (but bought a 1x owner E Class Cab instead)
Another great video guys. My son in law had one of these and garaged it after it's last mot ran out with the hope of getting it back on the road one day but it wasn't to be. It was a lovely motor, mechanically sound but the underneath was rotten sadly. Sending you my best wishes
Would love to see it start!
I use a Saab specialist in Benfleet, Essex for my two (OG 93 & a 95). What he doesn't know about these you could write on the back of a postage stamp.
Only you two could get me to watch a video about a saab !
😂😂 I dare say we will find some more barn find minis soon 😀 ~Claire
Thanks for showing us the unpeeling of the old Swede. 😉
I love your "automobile archeology" channel.
I saw you two (with child in tow) at the NEC. I hope you enjoyed the show.
Thank you. We had a great time, as did little Joshua. Hope you enjoyed it, too 😀
Well done
Its a good car, deserves a restoration.

Shame its a parts car. I think you'd love it if you got it running.

I have a 1981 GLs 4 door with the boot in midnight blue with the twin Zenith Stromberg carbs, only 38,000 miles on the clock, rust free and I love it!
Parts car for sure, in my book.
Some nice accessories if they can be removed without breaking.
Too much rust in the places that are visible gives a clue to what the floor plan and inner guards must be like.
The wheels, dashboard and wind deflector are the marketable items at first glance
Take it to the panel beaters and get the rust cut out
The Green Truthfully looked Good!
We like a ‘nature car’, too!
I had same year same colour 3 door 900 Turbo. This interior is excellent and some bits of paint, the doors sounded like that back in the day. At 7 years old I found the first rust hole underneath, so they are far from rust prrofed underneath
Back arches were the achiles heal of these cars but look after them they will look after you for a very long time beautiful proper cars
Thanks for saving this one, even if only as a parts car. It may be saveable but would require a total stripdown to establish the facts. Regardless, I imagine a saab owner would love this as a source of spares. Thanks for posting.
Would love to see the 405 jam sandwich 😎🚓
That did make a brief appearance in one of our videos… th-cam.com/video/WG0lhuqr41c/w-d-xo.html
The tape collection is similar to my family's. We also had Classic Experience II and New Hits '96..! And multiple Enya tapes - she lived around the corner from us here in Dublin.

Another great clean up. Sadly not looking economical to repair. As always a great video. Have a good week. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺
Worth saving not many these left
I had one until 2001 when the bottom was unfortunately rusted through. I loved it and still miss it. Safe and secure on Swedish winter roads.
Bejesus. You actually LIKE this car !!! After THAT, I see no reason to doubt the people who say they like the shapes of modern ars and EV's......
Beauty is - always - in the eye of the beholder...
The Moss Security sticker is ironic.😊
Surprisingly solid considering where it was sat, other leaser brands would be so much rustier! Plus you wouldn't be able to open the doors on them without them falling off (Escort springs to mind). Any that interior looks mint!
É bonito o carro achei o carro bonito❤😮
Yorkshire car restorers could make a nice saab out of this definitely needs saving
I'm in Australia, would like that sunroof deflector....& the alloys
This Saab was classed as the fastest road car at one point in history! bit of spit and polish, it’s a good un
Had a few in the day ,nice cars, very solid and well built. l liked the previous mid 70 s models .l think they were just called 9 s
What did that wiper ever do to you shooting it like that 😂😂 fantastic work guys
That volvo limousine you would get a hefty sum in sweden for 🙂
Ohhhh, I think you should save it......welding. you can do Elton
Даже без перевода,шутка была смешной😂😂😂😂😂, лайк подписка
Seen fair worse cars restored, it’s came up better than I expected. Too good for parts I’d think. Certainly interested to see if it ran
Would of liked to of seen, a turn of the key fire up maybe battery & fuel all it needed
VIVO EN SUECIA Y TODAVÍA SE VEN RODANDO ESTOS SAAB !!! .. SIEMPRE HAN TENIDO LA MISMA CALIDAD QUE VOLVO, UNA PENA QUE SE DEJARON DE FABRICAR!!
I worked at Saab as a mechanic for 7 years in the 80's. The cars were as solid as a tank but technically it was a disaster. Everything broke down!!!
I had a Saab ,96 v4 it rusted in the same places door bottoms and sills, I t was the door over sills design I think cases it.
You got yourselves a new fan, love these finds & the transformation..Nice work folks you might aswell adopt me to do some washing for you,i really love the transformations and the classics, great show guys…
If I may ask coz I’m new on this channel what do you do with these cars that you find & do you like purchase them I mean like for ownership..
These were decent cars in the late 80s
Like the background music
Saab were never the same after GM took them over
I haven’t seen anyone disagree with that sentiment yet.
@@UKBarnFinds
GM didn't really know what to do with Saab.
I wonder why they bothred buying them.
if the basic structure is ok it might be salvageable, the panels can be replaced I've seen worse being rebuilt
I'd fix it with the goal of not getting it perfect but getting it to look decent, pass its MOT and be good to use for the next few years.
Save that Saab !
Great looking cars......do you remember "The Paradise Club" with Lesley Grantham? He had a black one in that series :)
Yes! Blimey that’s a blast from the past 😁
Enia ❤❤❤
