For those of you who have hats that are too small, try using a larger hook and more rows. That will do it. I know I have a tighter stitch than most, so I always have to go up a hook size or two on any pattern for it to come out right for me. Her stitch is incredibly loose so I actually used a size P (10mm) hook and instead of stopping hdc at 12 rows, I did 15 rows, then sc for 3 rows to have a more substantial headband. I also went down on hook size with the sc to size K. Hope this helps someone.
+Denise Stowers-Fultz Definitely helpful, thank you so much! I'm making this to fit dreads in spring/summer and I'm using J hook but mine was turning out too small, so you're suggestions should help to make it more of what I was looking for.
so a year ago i started crocheting and this was the very first thing i crocheted and finished and i absolutely could not have done it without your video you are so wonderful. you make it so easy to understand the pattern i love it keep the patterns coming i love your taste in crochet.....beautiful
From rows 7-12 I am not decreasing at all. However, the fact that I am continuing to do only 1 HDC each stitch around tightens the hat "naturally" If you want you hat to be a bit larger, you can add on as many rows as you like, using the same method used in rows 7-12. However, be aware that the more rows you do, the tighter the opening gets. If you ever feel like your hat is getting too large too fast, try doing 2 HDC in one space occasionally to add more stitches. Hope all is clear! Thanks!
Thanks for this great tutorial! I need the opening to be larger for these reasons: 1. My head is a few inches. larger than OSFM. 2. My locs are thick and past my shoulders 3. I can't tolerate tightness around my head. How can I add rows but end up with a larger opening? Thanks
Compare to most your videos are easy to follow, clear to understand and simply. Im new at crocheting so easy and simply is what Im looking for. Keep up the good work and posting the great designs. Appreciate your talent made simple.
Love how easy this is to follow. I did have issue with the hook I was using so I increased my hook size just a little to get the look I wanted and then I modified the band to give me a more fitted slouchy look by decreasing stitches drastically. It came out great and I LOVE it. great video, thanks!!
Thank you so much for the tutorial. This is my new favorite pattern! I used a bigger hook and triple crochet instead of hdc and my hat came out HUGE! Lol. I Love it!!! Big hugs!
The color looks SO cute! Great job! I just got done making mine, but I added an extra row of single crochet. Thanks so much for this and all your tutorials. Great teacher! xoxoxo
I just finished the Mesh Hat. I converted it into a messy bun hat for summer. I really like the way it turned out. Thanks so much for the video tutorial.
Mines kept turning out too small. I was using a 6mm with dk yarn, I upped my hook to a 8mm with the same yarn & it is almost perfect. Also I add extra rounds before the single crochet to finish + an extra round of single crochet as well. :) Love my new hat. :D
This hat came out amazing! I used a smaller sized hook (5.5) and all I had to do was crochet more loosely than I normally would. I did add a 13th decreasing round just to make it a little more fitted but ultimately this hat came out perfect! It went extremely quickly to make too, I only spent an hour making it, so thank you!
Mine ended up a tad loose and didn't want to stay on my head so I added a couple of rows of single stitch in a contrasting color and it's great! New favorite hat!
I am trying this hat for the first time and I think I realize why my hat is trurninig out smaller than it should be. I used the same size needle my yarn is a very forgiving yarn so when it started looking small, I knew it had to be me. I didn't realize this until I got to rows 7-11. I saw that when she said put a HDC in every space. When she did it I saw that even in between the 2 HDC she placed a HDC +1CH , she placed a HDC+CH1. I skipped to the big spaces when doing this is the earlier rows. This made my hat look like it is for a child instead of an adult.Since I have nieces, I am going to keep this one small but on the next one I will pay closer attention to where I place my HDC +1CH. I hope this helps. It might not be your problem with the hat being small but I realize that it is what happened to me.
I liked the music. Well maybe not that particular tune. I love love love this hat and I have already made several that I will use as gifts this Christmas. This was so simple and quick and I thought you did an awesome job!! Have a great day!!
any tips on increasing the size on this? I'm assuming adding a couple more of the increase rounds? I added a couple extra rows near the end but it still didn't seem large enough but still wearable I do have a lot of hair and a big head though lol
This hat came out very small, although I LOVE it! Can you suggest direction for a larger hat? I actually added 8 more rounds of HDC, as I have a large head and added 3 more rounds of SC, as the hat fell like it was going to fall off otherwise. I used a 6mm hook and 4 ply Vanna's Choice yarn. Really soft and great colors for Spring!
Just wanted to let you know that I love the hat. I did extend it with one more round of increases and three rounds of decreases. I also added a row of puff stitches and four rounds of single crochet. It turned out great. Thanks again. Wished I knew how to take a pc and send it to you but I don't.
I'm having a problem when I try to make this hat. Now, I'm following the video along and I've tried a few times so far. Each time my hats seem to increase more than they should. I've tried not doing one of the increase rounds and one of the 2 hdc, 1 hdc rounds. I'm not sure if it's the weight of the yarn or the hook I'm using. It's the Loops & Threads -Charisma- (Bulky 5) with a N/15 - 10.00mm hook. The pattern looks exactly the same as shown in the video, it is just coming out, well giant. I just started crocheting a month ago so I'm not sure if using the different weight of the yarn and size hook would need to change up the pattern a little. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks :D
I loved your video!! It is great that you can watch so well and see how it is made. You have a wonderful personality!! I am definitely gonna try to make this hat!!!
Mine turned out perfect!! It looks like one in the video, but before I used a small hook and super hard yarn so it came out small. But now when I used a bigger hook and soft yarn it turned just like yours. Now am starting on another one!
used red heart super saver and ended up having to add a couple more rounds of single crochets to make the hat fit, had to do the singles since i had already cut the yarn. next time i will try a couple more rounds of the half double crochets. the hat did come out cute though, and it was super easy. this was the first pattern i've tried and i love it! thank you!
I loved it and I instantly made two beanies for me and my best friend in a few hours! It's very simple and easy but it looks gorgeous! Thanks for the tutorial!
By center, I'm assuming you mean the beginning of each row? :P If you're having issues keeping track, I recommend cutting a small piece of yarn and inserting it at the beginning of each row. Just so you can keep track of where you started. If you're still having issues, let me know!
Ok so I love this hat. I did have some trouble though...My hat ended up being smallish..I made sure to loosen my stitches but not enough I would guess. I would love to see this a bit bigger for me! Thanks for sharing
I really loved this pattern i lost count how many rows total?Do you have a pattern fora slouchy hat for a teenager-i made several but didn't know how to adjust the size for a smaller head?
I love this pattern, made it many times,. This time I am using a variegated yarn. lol the only problem I have with it, is the hcd so used to making doubles, I have to go back and repair it, one day I am going to try in in dc and see what it looks like,
your freaking adorable. Can you show how to make a snood?? its like a lace looking beanie looking hairnet looking thingy for your hair, I guess this is close tho... lol thank you!!!
I have a big head so I used the most biggest needle I could find and added more rows pass row 11. Love that I can finally make a hat like this. Thanks for the video :)
+IKMAL DANIAL its been awhile since i did the hat but i think before i did the sc i kept going. repeating the rounds until i did 15 then i finished it with the sc
Hi. I love your tutorial. I made the cap it came out great but too small for my head. So I added a few more rows. Now it’s really big. I’d like to know if i have to do decreases to get it to close or do i have to do extra rows of sc. please help.
Hello.. Your video was very easy to follow.. I'm working on my hat just now, but I have a few questions.. I'm using wool yarn and 5mm hook, at row 8 it still seems small, up to how many rows can I introduce to get a very beanie hat? It seemed on your hat that after row 9 your hat is getting smaller, are you decreasing the stiches or what method are you using to get the small opening at your hat? Thanks again, and keep up with the nice work!
I wish I could see so I could really know how to help you. The issue may be your gauge or how tight you naturally pull when crocheting. Generally when I crochet, I don't have a tight grip so my stitches come out a lot looser. Try crocheting a bit "looser" for a couple of stitches and see if that makes a difference. Let me know how it goes and we can work from there!
I'm trying to find a way to make the crown larger before I start doing the sides. Do you have any idea how I would do that? I have a much larger head. Great video :)
Thanks for the video! Very easy to follow. The rim of the hat is loose. I guess I will add elastic so it can be fitted. I wanted to add a picture of the first one I tried. Really happy with it.
To get a tighter fit on my head I did a Half Double Crochet in every other space for 2 rounds. This tightened it considerably. I have a very small head (21in) so I wanted it snug. I still finished with a single crochet in every space. This method decreased the space by half for each round. Not sure of another method without lengthening it considerably or changing the entire pattern.
Hey!! This is one of the first hats that I actually completed! I luv wearing these hats on my bad hair days.lol.. I am so glad that I learned how to make this hat... DONT have to pay $3-5 for one.... THX!!
a double crochet is longer than a half double crochet...so one single crochet has the same height as 1 chain, a half double crochet has the height of two chains, and a double croxhet has the height of three chains
what did you do different that you did not mention in row six? You seem to have ended in the last space with one half double + chain 2, but that math doesn't work with the repetition of 2 hdc then 1 hdc in 27 spaces from row 5.
Thanks for this easy tutorial, I added more rows & decreased stitches for a snug fit around the rim. I could have done without the music, you have a nice voice.
I finished the hat per your instructions and it looks like it fits a baby's head, not an adult. would you be able to possible explain why mine turned out so little compared to the one you show in your video.
I have a question.... Mine is starting to buckle like I'm making a flower or something... It's not flat. What am I doing wrong? I wish you'd go a little slower and show us your work as you go. I am so lost... Sorry...
For some reason mine doesn't look as open or spaced as yours. I'm not eactly sure if it's because I'm not crocheting loose enough or if it's because my yarn isn't as thick as yours
For those of you who have hats that are too small, try using a larger hook and more rows. That will do it. lol I'm using a 6.5mm and I thought she was joking when she finished after only 12 rounds. It's not even halfway done and I didn't do it tight at all.
Hi thanks for the video. I just wanted to ask if it will be ok to use a 3mm hook for this mesh hat.
Hi mine is still bigger than i expected. Should I decrease the rows to get it closer to the head band size I need
Thank you so much! Just finished mine& it’s tiny! Going to redo using your instructions. Appreciate you!🤍

I adore your tutorials! They are so helpful with great narration and video clarity on the crocheting. Plus you have a great personality :)
Thanks for showing it that simple way , it really helps a lot clearing the steps & showing the exact motion of the needle .
Your a good teacher.. I enjoyed your personality
I just finished the Mesh Hat. I converted it into a messy bun hat for summer. I really like the way it turned out. Thanks so much for the video tutorial.
I love this pattern, I just added three more rows totaling 15 at the end. It was so easy I made four in one day. THANK YOU.

YOU ARE THE BEST TEACHER, AFTER TRYING SO MANY VIDEOS, FINALLY I FOUND YOU AND I ALREADY FINISH MY FIRST AND I START THE SECOND ONE. BLESS YOU!
+Omaira Gibens she is great… I've made about 3 items from her. Very good.
Where can I see more videos from her?
simply hooked crochet is the youtube channel.

Love your videos, they are so fun and EASY TO FOLLOW!! Please keep sharing your beautiful crochet creations!

Great tutorial! Very professional...thanks for sharing. This hat works up very quickly 😄
Great tutorial!
I’ve crocheted three hats using Scheepjes Wanderlust yarn.
Thank you!

I just finished my first beanie! It's perfect! You were so easy to follow and fun to watch :) definitely subscribing.
Love this Mesh Hat pattern. Also, I subscribed. Love your bubbly personality.
I loved your tutorial. I changed it some to make it a little bigger and bigger in two colors that came out Great. Thanks for the pattern.
What size yarn is that? I see that its a J hook but I used medium weight yarn and my hat came out wayyyyyy small. Thx!

hi tracy. did u add more stiches pass row 11?
+IKMAL DANIAL its been awhile since i did the hat but i think before i did the sc i kept going. repeating the rounds until i did 15 then i finished it with the sc
+Tracy Camp ohh. the beret u did, does it can be covered long hair? like for example wearing like a shower cap?
+IKMAL DANIAL yeah for me its baggy enough to tuck my hair in it
Thank you! Out off all the videos I watched, you were so much easier to follow.

Mine is coming out that way so far, too.
From what I've noticed, I've done mine tighter than she has so far.
This was my 1st hat and it came out awesome. Thank you for posting such a great video, that made completing this project so simple. :-)
the music and tutorial bring such good vibes. :)
This yarn in particular is the brand Peaches and Creme. I'm positive you can find it at Walmart for like $2
very cute but i have just one question you don't chain 1 in between on rows 6 on the 2 hdc? i hope you understand my question thank you
I just finished making the hat. However, mine ended up being too big and didn't have a snug fit. Would making the stiches tighter help?
To get a tighter fit on my head I did a Half Double Crochet in every other space for 2 rounds. This tightened it considerably. I have a very small head (21in) so I wanted it snug. I still finished with a single crochet in every space. This method decreased the space by half for each round. Does the hat start to curl over or no? Is it the single crochet that pull it together?
What kind of yarn (brand/material) do you use?
how many stiches do you do after the first stich
I love your videos and all your projects
Seriously you explain things so well...keep posting new videos :)
My came out way to small. What do I need to do to make it bigger.
What's the difference between doing a half double crochet chain one vs just a double crochet? I'm just a beginner and they both kind of look similar.
a double crochet is longer than a half double crochet...so one single crochet has the same height as 1 chain, a half double crochet has the height of two chains, and a double croxhet has the height of three chains
Hello what kind of yarn are you using if you don't mind me asking?
Thank you, you explain better than the others videos in hear
what did you do different that you did not mention in row six? You seem to have ended in the last space with one half double + chain 2, but that math doesn't work with the repetition of 2 hdc then 1 hdc in 27 spaces from row 5.
Is there any way to customize this pattern for a kid size beanie? My daughter loves this and I would love to make one for her.
I just knit for the life of me follow the 2 nd and 3rd row please help me. Do you have a pattern? Please and thank you 🙏
Do I Chain 1 in between EVERY half double crochet on every round?
Thanks for this easy tutorial, I added more rows & decreased stitches for a snug fit around the rim. I could have done without the music, you have a nice voice.
+Carolyn Guerrero NO MUSIC PLEASE.
+Omaira Gibens I thought I was the only one who could do without the music, great tutorial !
Ca
me out too small. I am still messing with it. Nice try, but something is seriously not right.
Your a cutie. I am going to try this hat and give it to my Mom because she has long hair.
I love your videos please post more all ready watched it like 20 times and just to tell you im ten and know how to crochet
I think you should start putting in the box the wrote out directions. :-D
i looked. at it again....your so sweet. i love your voice
ok so...my stitches are done loosely and im even using a 6.5mm hook, but 11 rows of half doubles is wayyyy to small...im confused....
Why type of yarn did you use
do you have any written patterns??
your pattern is amazing im just wondering if this can work on 5mm crochet hook. it is all i have :(
Just what I need for summer, love it
The only thing I can think of to help you is make sure you increase as per instructed and/or use an "L" hook. Hope this helps.
do you have written instructions for this?
I finished the hat per your instructions and it looks like it fits a baby's head, not an adult.
would you be able to possible explain why mine turned out so little compared to the one you show in your video.
will this fit on a kids head first time trying anything like this
I have a question.... Mine is starting to buckle like I'm making a flower or something... It's not flat. What am I doing wrong? I wish you'd go a little slower and show us your work as you go. I am so lost... Sorry...
Is there a written patterns for this hat? Would love to work on it while camping this weekend.
could you show how you would change colours?
I want to add a different colored stripe along the middle
Love your videos!
Do you have a written pattern for this hat?
I love your videos I watch all of them please make more
We're did you get your yarn because my friend likes that color
I'm a little lost....I guess this isn't so much for beginners.... Very fast! Yours turned out cute though! I guess I'll have to keep rewinding...
Love the video however hat came out small. I'm a crocheter don't understand what happened. Had to make more rounds to fit. Love your vids though.
For some reason mine doesn't look as open or spaced as yours. I'm not eactly sure if it's because I'm not crocheting loose enough or if it's because my yarn isn't as thick as yours
Hey if you was selling those hat how much will would you sell them for??
If it cubes out too small you may be crocheting too tightly. You can try to crochet loosely or use a bigger hook.
