Happy thanksgiving, I am gratefull to you for teaching me how to crochet, when I started as young as 10years old my mother she taught me how to crochet doilies, I am 53 now and had to relearn it again so I can make my family and friends some crocheted things. Ie.. Hats, scarfs, ear warmers, gloves, lots of things, I owe it all to you & all the TH-cam videos. So I wanted to say thank you, I am grateful to you ,thanks and please don't stop, I love how you teach & speak, it is easy to follow you. I am disabled now so I don't have much money, to buy everyone gifts, you have allowed me to make everyone something, for Christmas & birthday gifts. This thanksgiving I am so thankful to you cause I have the opportunity to crochet with love for my loved ones. You made this possible for me . I hope you can feel my gratitude in my words. Thanks my friend.....
Aww, thank you for such a nice comment. I am sure they will love them. Personally speaking, I would pick a handmade gift over a store bought any day. The love, thought and care that's put into a handmade gift is priceless.
I don't know if this helps but this is the pattern as I heard it. Feel free to amend it if it feels wrong. I just typed while she was talking 5 mm Magic circle and chain 3 or Chain 6 Remember your chain 3 row counts as the first chain 1st row: chain 3, 12 DC, join slip stitch on 3rd chain 2nd row increasing: chain 3, in each stitch do 2 DC, repeat to end, switch yarn 3rd row increasing: chain 3, every 2nd chain DC, all other 1 DC repeat to end 4th row increasing: chain 3, every 3rd chain DC, all other 1 DC, repeat, change yarn 5th row increasing: chain 3, every 4th chain 2 DC, all other 1 DC, repeat to end, slip stitch in 3rd chain 6th row increasing: chain 3, every 5th chain 2 DC, all other 1 DC, repeat to end, change yarn 7th row increasing: chain 3, every 6th chain 2 DC, all other 1 DC, repeat to end 8th-16th row: chain 3, 1 DC in each chain (change color every two rotations) 17th row: chain 1, HDC in every chain 18th row decrease: chain 1, HDC for 9 chains, decrease in chain 10& 11, repeat to end 19th row: chain 1, HDC in every chain 20th row decrease: chain 1, HDC for 9 chains, decrease in chain 8&9, repeat to end 21st row: chain 1, HDC in every chain, slip stich and chain one weave ends
Thanks Brianna I wish I would have seen this before I finished ,but I did something wrong ,I left out every 4thchain DC and went right to 5 that's why I ended up with 84 stitches . lol but i it still very nice
Brianna can you write me in regards to the slouchy hat pattern. My friend wants me to make a hat and you seem to know this well. I want to do it right for him. If not thank you still!
Please pin this so others can find it if they need the written pattern to help. Also for those who are having trouble with seeing what's being done, click on gear at the right side of video. choose speed and choose 0.25. The video should be slow enough to see what's happening. Change to normal to put the video back again.
I don't know what on earth I did wrong...but my hat is ginormous! You could fit a basketball in it! I crocheted right along with you, paused where I needed to....like when you'd say, "continue doing a double crochet in every stitch around." Then I'd stop the pause to continue crocheting with you....but from the start, your hat looked much smaller than mine. I wish you had written instructions so I could follow along with the pattern...now I have to tear this all out and start all over again...or just tear it out and forget it. :(
Sandy Drinkwater You're so right. I'm making this hat now and it's huge as well. Using RH with Love, 5.0mm H hook. I'm on row 18 now, 9 HDC's, then decrease in the next two chains & repeat...I'm coming up with extra stitches at the end of the round. There should be a count of 84 in rounds 8-17 correct?
My first 2 attempts was like yours ! took it all out rolled yarn into a ball :( was not happy ! but then reading comments Brianna Stahl wrote out the pattern ! i did succeed in making this hat !!!
Oh my, I’ve been crocheting for many years and cannot figure out why this hat is turning out so huge. By reading some other comments it’s obviously my error but for the life of me I’m not seeing it. A disappointment for sure because it is a very pretty hat.
I am a pretty beginner at crochet and following this video, I made this hat! Thanks so much, I don't have anyone to really sit down with me and teach me how to make things like this, thanks so much! You're a great teacher
@Thu Le Hoang Anh You can buy this yarn in any American store that sells yarn and you can find it online as well. The yarn is in red heart super saver yarn, size medium, one is in black and the other one is in white.

I got to row 11 and thought it was looking more like a pillow than a hat bc it was so big. I unraveled back far enough to omit the last row of increase and it is now looking so much better. Thanks for the video, it's been very helpful.
I'm curious, why the switch to HDC? Does it effect the project in any way? Would it be fine to continue with DC in the project, dec normally? I'm wondering if it changes the way the project lays, or changes it.
question on round 17 where you do the HDC in 9 st then Dec when I get around I dont have enough I end up with 6 st left am I doing something wrong, my friend also comes up the same TY after all the increase how many st should we have
The instructions were so clear to me but my hat is way to big!!! I made 2 of them today and they both turned out way to big! What am I doing wrong? I have 84 dc before I start the rim and mine is so much shorter than yours! I'm useing red heart yarn and an H hook so it's definitely neither of those causing it to be different
The slouchy hat that you made is really cute I'm doing your slouchy hat by following your video my sister Patty says it would be popular and I own my business selling my own patterns that I crochet and some people having buying my crocheted patterns that I have made so I am selling each pattern that I'm doing of the slouchy hat and my other crocheted stuff
Hi i know this video is a old but i started making the top of the first 6 rows of a hat then started decided that i want it to be slouchy. Will the hat still come out slouchy if i do the expansions from row 7 all the way to the end of the hat?
+ThePatterfamily Gracias por responderme...intentaré descubrir si hay algún modo....igual sería genial Gracias que tengas presente q nos encantó tu tarea y te seguimos...GRACIAS AMIGA
Your tutorial was very good it just helps me to know stitch count after s round. But I have made 3 hats they turned out gfeat _lh3.googleusercontent.com/LIe2OCafWFY-yvughz8eCHTP3HHz86nEtHliRQv58U_dbULdm5bb563RuG2pt01Jna_JJB32WQ_
I loved your tutorial and found it easy to follow. However, mine too came out quite large. Its noticeably bigger than yours at and near the bottom where the banding should be. I used a wool, #4 medium bulk and an H hook. I worked all afternoon to complete and so bummed I cannot wear. Any suggestions? I wondered if hand sewing elastic thread in the bottom inch would work.
I'm having the same problem. I fix this by decreasing my number of increase rows, so instead of doing 6 increases I do about 4, and then just continue on
What is the height of the hat, as I`m using a bit thinner yarn and also 4,5 needle, so I need to know, maybe I have to crochet more rows before starting to decrease?
I Chained 4 then Crocheted 11 in the Very Last Chain From Hook. With Chaining 4, the 3 Chains Starting From Hook Will Be Your First Double Crochet, the 11 In Last Chain Will Be 12 Double Crochet.
do you have a written pattern? I have found it helps me to learn not only to read the patterns but to be able to watch and read at the same times seems to help me remember.
@thepatternfamily I’m using Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn so my rows aren’t as wide as yours. Should I continue to increase after row 7? Or will it work with stopping the increase at row 7?
This is amazing. I decided last minute to make myself a hat since I'm not going to have a chance to get my hair colored before Thanksgiving! Thanks for the easy pattern :)
Thank you for posting this tutorial. It is so easy to follow. I just paused and played as needed. What a cute hat. I am making them for my family members for Christmas in their favorite team colors. :)
Hi good day to you , I try making this hat 3 times and all of the time the hat is too big. I'm using the same hook and the same yarn. what is it that I am doing wrong can you help? I love this hat really want to wear it .
I left a comment on how I worked mine. You could go down a needle size and see if that works. It was the best pattern I found it was easy and worked up fairly quick. I needed it for a guy in his 20's that lost his hair to chemo. I was really grateful to have found it.
The first one that I made came out too small (it couldn't fit me, but it could fit my aunt a little bit). It didn't even slouch in the back for her...I'm trying again, maybe with more rows this time so I can wear it
ThePatterfamily What is decreasing tho? I taught myself from youtube videos so am unfamiliar to the terms. Is decreasing doing single crochets for 10-11??
I got to row 16 but why is my row look uneven and yours doesn't? Was I supposed to decrease some to even the row? I wish i could share a picture. and some else is say very hard to follow after row 18. I've put much time in this and hate to not be able to finish. help please!
Hello, so I was told by a friend that to make a hat fit right you do as many increases as you need till the work is half the size in inches of your head. .I was wondering if I should do this for my hat? My head is about 21 inches so should I do more increases untill it is half of that and then do the regular double crochet?
They should be somewhere within the video, if not than it was probably made during the time when I didn't measure them. All I know for sure is that it is in the adult size.
Hi. I started crochet black and white. I just can't followed and need be written I can follow. I love that Hat . TH-cam is fine but too fast. I wish it slow down. Please download to get copy written. Thanks
I had to go back on a couple times and found i had miscounted. I did reduce by two stitches at each side of where the row meets (or the back of the hat) total four sets of two decreases over the last two rows of double crochet. I tend to crochet tighter stitches so I tried it on as I got near the end.
I'm sorry to bother you again, but due my lack of practice I've not being able to do the calculation about how many more stitches I do have to do in order to get the right width in the widest part of the hot, so then I can do the decreases. What happens is that the yarn I got doesn't have the same ply counts or weight, mine is thiner, which I did have to accept as the had I'm doing is for may Goddaughter and she wanted in a specific color which was not available in thicker yarn. I'm sure I have to have more room, but, I repeat, don't know how to calculate. I don't want that after finish the hat it wont fit. If you give me any clue I'll be very gratefull. Thanks a lot :) :)
You will have to increase for few more rows since you are using thinner yarn. I don't remember the ''width, in inches, that came out after doing the last row with increases''. I will try to include that info when I make my future hats.
ThePatterfamily Thank you so much. That's what I thought but wanted to be a little more sure, but I'm going to increase two more rows and will try to calculate looking again at the video. TKU!
Hello and Happy Holidays. I been crocheting for a while and have looked at a few of your patterns. I am trying to crochet a slouchy beanie but everytime I do it they come out too tight. I would love it if you can help with this. I need a slouchy beanie for an adult female that is not so snug. Thank you and thank you for all you share for others to learn. :)
It seems that you are using a crochet hook and yarn in smaller size. I have used red heart super saver yarn for this video. If you are using thinner yarn then you should make more than 12 DC in the first row.
ThePatterfamily Thank you for your response. I am using the same size needle as you. I am however using yarn that I have no clue what the brand is because it was given to me from my grandmother without labels. I will try using a bigger needle and your suggestion. Thank you
I am using red heart ( i think lol ) but it is worsted weight 4, and I am using a 5.5 mm hook, and I am crocheting loose, and it is working out great, not tight at all.
This was a great video. I was able to figure out the end of row stitches which was wonderful, my hat feels a little too big for my head and my head measures at 22... so I may add a few more decrease stitches in the rows or just put in a drawstring for now. But overall this was a great video, real easy to follow, thanks.
I keep trying to make this hat because I love it and I was wondering if by the 8th row it should just be lying flat. I am using a softer yarn and was wondering if that was the problem, I would really like it if you would say how many stitches are in each row. Can you give me some suggestiong?
Happy thanksgiving, I am gratefull to you for teaching me how to crochet, when I started as young as 10years old my mother she taught me how to crochet doilies, I am 53 now and had to relearn it again so I can make my family and friends some crocheted things. I am glad to hear that and thank you for your support. :)
ThePatterfamily , how do i get the pattern
Going to try it, it looks so beautiful.
sry, one more question, at the end of the hat, should it be tight around the head or a bit loose?
Quick and was very easy to follow, came out perfect thank you.
I'm curious, why the switch to HDC? Does it effect the project in any way? Would it be fine to continue with DC in the project, dec normally? I'm wondering if it changes the way the project lays, or changes it.
Yes, it does change it. It makes the headband more narrow to give it this effect.
Thank you so very much for this video

How would I start that hat if I don't want to do the magic circle? Chain 6 then 12 dc into circle?
Yes, just chain 6.
I Chained 4 then Crocheted 11 in the Very Last Chain From Hook. With Chaining 4, the 3 Chains Starting From Hook Will Be Your First Double Crochet, the 11 In Last Chain Will Be 12 Double Crochet.
Hi I like this pattern does this pattern also fit men size?
do you have a written pattern? I have found it helps me to learn not only to read the patterns but to be able to watch and read at the same times seems to help me remember.
No, I don't have a written pattern.
ThePatterfamily since you know how to make this, can't you just write down the instructions?
Brianna posted the instructions the should be near the top.
Beautiful, is it possible to get written pattern, thank you.

Is it fine if we do the whole thing the same color?
It doesnt make a difference i find it easier to do only one color

How do you decrease on round 18. It was a little fast.
For row 18:
In the next 9 chains make one hdc - decrease chains 10-11.
ThePatterfamily how do you decrease chain 10-11? I didn't quite see what you did in order to decrease it.

My head is about 21 inches so should I do more increases untill it is half of that and then do the regular double crochet?
Hello, how do I make this hat bigger? The person that I'm making it for has a lot of hair. Do I just keep increasing until I get the size I need?
what are the measurements of this hat when completed?
They should be somewhere within the video, if not than it was probably made during the time when I didn't measure them. All I know for sure is that it is in the adult size.
how big is it meant to b
Adult size.
ThePatterfamily , Can you give me addess of the shop you bought this yarn ? It's look so cool !!!♡♡
Hi. I started crochet black and white. I just can't followed and need be written I can follow. I love that Hat . TH-cam is fine but too fast. I wish it slow down. Please download to get copy written. Thanks
There is a wheel on the right bottom part of the video, you can change the speed there.
Diane you can pause the Video to help slow it down. Just tap on Video, pause until done with each section, press screen to restart and should help.
I had to go back on a couple times and found i had miscounted. I did reduce by two stitches at each side of where the row meets (or the back of the hat) total four sets of two decreases over the last two rows of double crochet. I tend to crochet tighter stitches so I tried it on as I got near the end.
Can I use red heart acrylic yarn? Coz that's only available in the Philippines?
Yes, that's what I used as well, it was in size 4. :)
ThePatterfamily thank you 😊
What's the name of the pattern?
How many stitches are in the row that makes up the body of the hat? You should state how many stitches there are in the completion of each row.
TKU!
For the length of the hat.... Is it 16 rows to that point?!? How many rows all together?!?
There are 21 rows in total.
Thank you
Hello and Happy Holidays.
Yes, by the 8th row your work should still be flat.
ThePatterfamily Thank you so much!!
is there a way to adjust this pattern to fit someone with the measurement of 26'?
How did you change the colors? I need some help with this. Thank you!
Thank you for this helpful video. Would you explain the decrease please?
Paula Sz I am not sure I understand what you mean by 'explaining the decrease'. Are you asking me how to make a decrease or when to make a decrease?
