Your videos actually came to me at a great time. I have a serious shopping addiction. I’ve gotten rid of a van size full of stuff the past 2 weeks. I returned $500 worth of stuff which luckily were still in the return period. Your videos are helping me so much with this addiction to not be a consumerist. You don’t know how much you’ve impacted my life right now. Keep these videos coming
I've followed you for a long time. I'm going through a phase where I really need to Crack down on budgeting & changing life habits to healthier/simple ones (new house, new 2nd baby, 1 income). Lately I've really been zoning into your content to help me set myself for success. Thank you so much for spreading your light! ☀️❤️
Your videos are always soothing, I like to watch them while on lunch break or at home after a stressful day at work. I'm happy to say I'm a repeater too lol. I go back to your older videos or listen to your podcast while driving to work to reset myself. Have a good day ❤️
I have a notebook in which I've listed all the wardrobe items I have: brand, model, size. In case I need to buy something new, I just order the same classic product again. I haven't actually had to order anything in a long time, though, because I've chosen pieces that last a long time.
Personally I'm glad I've never tried the 90/90 rule or similar versions, and did hold on to things for several years that were very useful items. Now that I haven't had a job for several years and live on barely any $, those useful things have come in handy so many times and I have began using some items again after many years of not using them, and if I had tossed them years prior, I would not be able to repurchase them in these years I don't have income. We don't know ahead of time and if we will have the means to replace them or not, so not everything needs to be tossed just because you haven't used it in a while. That rule also sounds very wasteful if you keep tossing/donating stuff, only to replace them later on because you need them. And that rule is mainly for wealthy people with a good cushion of $$$ to fall back on if they do lose their income/whatever. I'm SO grateful for actually holding on to certain things for YEARS. 😊
I've experienced this too. During the pandemic and lockdown, I ended up digging through the things in my giveaway pile to actually use. I felt glad that I hadn't given away those items.
I agree with you, if you have ever lived on a (very) low income in your life you tend to hold on to items because you don’t know if you will be able to replace them. I guess it’s another form of minimalism and at least trying to be sustainable en frugal. My parents - who were small children in Europe during World War II - were raised that way. They were taught to take good care of their belongings, to make clothing work even though it’s a bit outdated, to look for multiple ways to use something instead of buying something specific for each specific purpose. To be resourceful and creative. To not waste anything. Whenever I see my 84 mum in her home, it always strikes me how many of her (not very many) belongings were already there in my childhood (I am 46 now). She and my dad were minimalists avant la lettre!
She even says it’s specifically a declutterring tip. If you’re not trying to downsize your things, then it would make sense to hold onto them. But with excess items it is a handy rule in my opinion.
I love the prompt: "What is the cost behind this?" One thing I'm now also considering is: "What's the cost to our environment, to our world?" when I'm making purchasing decisions. thank you for such a beautiful video and I can't wait for your move! 😊
What I so appreciate is how you take deep meaningful concepts and illustrate them quickly and to the point in carefully crafted videos, With your positive energy and persona you greatly encourage others to have a more fulfilling life. The video itself is minimalistic which makes it paradoxically profoundly complex and beautiful.
Dear Sophie ! I adore your content ! I have been on what started as a no buy year, that is soon extending into a no mindless consumption of anything year !! I have never feel so calm and as free as I have of late, now that I am slowly letting go of bad habits and clutter at the same time AND also being very mindful of what I allow into my life. Every video of yours, the message, your soothing voice, the way you articulate yourself so gently, your artistic editing and even your fashion sense ( which I find sooo beautiful and inspiring 🥰 ), all resonate so much with me ! Thank you so much for what you do !! Sending you all the love and more 💕💕 ! I will be watching your videos and enjoying them, not binging, but one at a time slowly and relaxing with you as much day ends,as a friend ☺️
The 90/90 rule is great, I'll apply it straight away. The hangers are already turned round. And now perhaps the most important rule 😉: Watch a Malama Life video in the morning. It will open your heart and mind and orientate your whole day towards a minimal and simple life.
I think society as a whole has a problem with letting go of stuff. We create many reasons why she cannot or should not let go of something. To me, not having too much stuff is about simplicity. It makes my life practical and enjoyable. I get to do the things I love when I don’t have to take care of the things I have all the time because they are not too much. Simplicity also provides us with easiness and it is good for our mental health! Thank you so much for this video.
Love what you said about using up an item completely and then going and restocking or only having one of each, i definitely can relate to this habit because i have this fear of running out of products so i end up buying a few things if they are on sale but its clutter and it takes up space! Going to try and just wait and then use the physical stores around me more and be more present and intentional. On a side note, I truly love your calm nature,-I feel I have actually retained so much more because of the way you execute your videos, you don’t start out at a volume 10, you keep it around a 3-4 and exactly how a TH-camr should be IMO LOL. Who wants to be yelled at to do something, you never push your rhetoric you just explain how it’s helping you and the deep connection to your mission. -Which naturally, is inspiring! I was so excited to see this video pop up today, and thank you for the reminder, I definitely need another purge and to “let go” of those items I have not worn in YEARS! 90 days, spsh! Namaste!
I don't so what's the problem with that. If it's on sale and you know you use it, buy as many as you're able to store. You also think about the time saved NOT shopping for that item
I would love a video of what you eat in a day, your healthy habits or exercise. The moment I hit 30, I went from 115(flat stomach) to 150lbs in just a few months. You look very healthy with the flat stomach I dream of having that again. I would love tips and tricks to stay healthy especially in a more minimalistic way since we live paycheck to paycheck. Everything I read seems so complicated but you live simple(like my husband d and I) and I feel like you stay healthy in a simple way as well. Thanks! 💕🙏
This is only the second video of yours that I've seen. But I can tell that you've really internalized minimalism holistically. And I really appreciate how this theme continues even through the presentation of the videos. The sense of calm that comes from a decluttered space I can also feel watching your videos due to your efficiency in ideas, design, and language. My question is: are you one of those people who is a natural at this skill? Or did you spend many years mastering minimalism?
I was glad to hear you mention “borrow” in your strategies. My sister is a pack rat and I know if I need to borrow a seldom needed item she gladly lends it. This has given me the impetus to donate and gift my excess.
I love the idea of thinking in systems. Putting systems into place is key to making it work and sticking to it and I am definitely going to add the wish list into my set of systems. Great video!
I have heard of the hanger thing before and wonder how many people have tried it! I like the timer for people too who need that. Beautiful. So many people say they don't have time for so many things. . .but there they are on their phone, on facebook, or whatever. . . wasting that time they could have used to be more productive. Lovely list.
I will test the last rule😊 I also want to share a tip that helped me; to change the thought from “can I let go of this? To can I manage without this thing?” Usually the answer to the last one is yes. Maybe my brain see it as a motivating challenge for me to manage without that thing😂🎉
It’s possible and desirable to keep up with minimalism. 😂 it’s possible to turn frugality into comfort. And yes, transform rules into guidelines. Thank you. Obrigada. 🙏
The more things I have, the more I feel stressed about taking care of them. This year I've taken a step back and started using everything I had before buying something new. There is finally no adrenaline rush of wanting to buy something. Your videos help me a lot 💗
Actually the comment about knowing you can buy it again if you end up missing it is probably my LEAST favorite thing about YT minimalism. Great video btw. And I love minimalism. But I think a lot of other youtubers talking about minimalism are, either knowingly or unknowingly encouraging us to get rid of so many things and then we just end up needing to replace it. Which is actually MORE wasteful. I like the hanger method and use it since I saw it on one of your previous videos. That's the kind of minimalism I most utilize. I have categories of items I use often, want to get rid of but am not yet ready, etc. and, where possible, I move the item into the "keep"/use often category once I've used it again. i often find I need to acquire a better one before I'll be ready to let it go and I think that's responsible... especially if you're not rolling in dough. I often find I end up doing several rounds of de-cluttering before I'm finally ready to let some of the items in my "want to get rid of but not ready" groups. Keeping things organized, revisiting them often so you know what you have, purchasing patiently instead of impulsively... I think these are some of my favorite minimalism habits. Speaking of which, I also liked your suggestions regarding waiting 30 days, having a wish list and acquiring quality.
I think it's time for me to apply the 90 days rule. Recently did a massive de-clutter in years and yet I still feel like hv much more to do! Thank you for reminding me of the pomodoro technique too! I will start applying that today😇 With so much stimulation in the world these days I find it hard to focus even when I'm doing things I love such as journaling or rding books😮 P.S. Love that you can eat fruit from your own yard!!🥭🌴 고마워 소피 for your healing & inspiring videos!! Hv a good day
I have been living minimalism more and longer than anyone I know personally. There are things I use less than, or about once a year. 90/90 sounds better than it is practicable I believe. When you have been a successful minimalist for years, then there’s always also going to be room for a few things you rarely use and/or hold dear. Maybe the 90/9O rule helps who would like to start the decluttering. Do not follow too strict if you don’t want to regret giving up on some item and then risk the whole minimalism plan😅
Buy nice or buy twice! That really has spoken to me😊. Thanks for being consistent in your content. Btw, what is happening to your other channel? I'd love to see some more of a daily life. I'm sure it more of us here, but totally understand if you don't want to share to much 😊. Greetings from very sunny England!
It's about what feels like Harmony. If Minimalism is Your Harmony, then Doscover it through your Conscience Thoughts + +Higher Mind" If it feels a struggle, then reconsider: "What feels Good to me?".
Great 👍 tips, Sophie!! Thank you so much!! I caught myself a few times that when I really want to buy something (which I am sure I don't really need), I turn one of your videos and I actually do not purchase the item. So a big thank ❤ you for all that you do!!!
For me it is easy to do declutterring with “NO” items. It is a bit tiring with “Maybe yes maybe not” items and I ask to myself different questions about the item that I analyze in that moment: Will I use in the future? Is it in a good condition? Does it have a good quality? Can I give to anyone around me ( and in my case my answer for this question is every time no because in Italy there is not a big culture of reuse things of someone else’s/second hand). And I still have a lot of difficulties on decluttering in my parents' house where I grew up. it all seems like a big memory of the past.
Thank you Sophie I’ve just done a massive clear out of clothes 13 big bags I feel good about this achievement it was the final big decluttering but I’ve still got some items I’ve not used for more than 90 days and if I’m honest I probably won’t wear them for more than another 90 days but I’m clutching at straws to let them go so this seems like the hardest thing for me
I think the one in one out rule will be really helpful for me as I got my room decluttered but it has recluttered pretty fast. It is easy for small things to start to re-enter my space. I need to think through somethings that I don't need.
The two rules I’ve always applied are: 1. 30 Days to some times 60/90 days wish-listing 2. 1 in 1 out for clothes, makeup, electronics, footwear and so many more items! ❤ Just struggling to have essential mindset on skincare purchases because I’m fond of indulging in doing skincare trying products that I end up over purchasing 🙈
1) Quality, not quantity. 2)Wait 30 days minimum on purchases. 3) One in One out rule (use up before buying new) 4) No Duplicate Rule 5) 25 Minute Rule for focus/work 6) The 90/90 decluttering rule 7) The Cost Calculator- cost behind price, what you gain vs lose
Always awaits for your videos. Nice one. Systems always matter. Love your 7 guidelines. Its all in the mind too. Btw, where is your location now? Nice garden. Are you in the Philippines now?
I never buy clothes online. I want to look at the item, try it on, etc. Also, I never buy new clothes, only preloved items from resale stores. Every new item you buy has taken something from our Earth to be made. Our Earth is covered with landfills. As for personal items other than clothes, I use up what I have before I buy another (if need be).
The moment I saw you didn't have a Macbook, I knew you were a real minimalist. Unlike these pseudo minimalist who try to convince us to buy an iPad mini lol for "minimalism"
I Sophie - I really appreciate your videos . Im trying to find the video that you talk about the specific brands of clothing that you like for sustainability and women owned . I recently have started purchasing some brands that I love like ABLE , Madewell and Bella Daul from Mercari because of the quality - despite being gentle used they are pieces that I have come to love . Could you remind me which video it is ? I have rewatched several trying to find it but can’t seem to locate it . Thanks so much !! Michelle
All rules are very good, but I personally don't like the 90/90. I decluttered things that I need again 1 year later. So, for me, it doesn't work. But all the other rules are great.
I think this rule probably works best for those who have the same climate all year round. If I decluttered according to this rule now, I'd be dying of hypothermia come winter! But that's the cool thing with these guidelines - you can always adapt them to work for you. I get rid of anything I haven't worn the previous year because if I've not worn it in all four seasons then I'm unlikely to wear it in future.
One celebrity stylist admitted that many celebrities wear *yutulu* . This is nothing new or strange. And many times we see celebrities posing in magazines, and the photos for promotions and advertisements are given by brands or borrowed by themselves.
Enjoy watching your videos , very helpful ❤️ I'm blessed only God knows how much I praise him, getting $70k bi weekly and I’m retired now. I’ve got a good cash and can also support my family😊

Personally I'm glad I've never tried the 90/90 rule or similar versions, and did hold on to things for several years that were very useful items.
I agree, but i think it‘s really important for her mental health to have as few items as possible to calm her mind. Everybody is different 🤷♀️
She even says it’s specifically a declutterring tip. If you’re not trying to downsize your things, then it would make sense to hold onto them. But with excess items it is a handy rule in my opinion.
You didn't get her actual point

@@MalamaLife nanoticed ako 🥺 🇵🇭
Opening James Clear Quote hits hard. 😇
I agree!
Great 👍 tips, Sophie!! Thank you so much!! I caught myself a few times that when I really want to buy something (which I am sure I don't really need), I turn one of your videos and I actually do not purchase the item.
So a big thank ❤ you for all that you do!!!
Thank you for watching 🤗❤️
For me it is easy to do declutterring with “NO” items. It is a bit tiring with “Maybe yes maybe not” items and I ask to myself different questions about the item that I analyze in that moment: Will I use in the future? Is it in a good condition? Does it have a good quality? Can I give to anyone around me ( and in my case my answer for this question is every time no because in Italy there is not a big culture of reuse things of someone else’s/second hand). And I still have a lot of difficulties on decluttering in my parents' house where I grew up. it all seems like a big memory of the past.
I started to challenge myself with these „maybe“-items and force myself to actively use them. If it feels wrong in any way it‘s also easy to let go:)
@@Scassolina-rv2xjit is true I have to try in this way too. Thanks
@@Twocupsofcoffee I just watched your video about Milano. Beautiful ☺️you seem to be very humble. Have a nice evening!
I especially love the hanger rule and the 25-minute rule- thank you x
It works so well 😍
A box of beer and a full fridge are also enough❤️🍻🍻
The pomodoro technique has been a total game changer for me! Awesome video ♡
Thank you for making minimalism cool and reinforcing good decisions.
🙌🥰
Absolutely loved this thank you. I liked them all. ❤
very interessant! thank you!
Thank you for watching ❤️
Your videos have always inspire me to live a peaceful and sustainable life❤️
So happy to hear it 🥰❤️
Thank you Sophie I’ve just done a massive clear out of clothes 13 big bags I feel good about this achievement it was the final big decluttering but I’ve still got some items I’ve not used for more than 90 days and if I’m honest I probably won’t wear them for more than another 90 days but I’m clutching at straws to let them go so this seems like the hardest thing for me
Great video as always. Thank you! Can you please tell me the brand of your linen pants you’re wearing?
Love these, no duplicate rule would definitely work for my adhd brain ha
Yet she showed 2
Thanks for your tips! 💘😋
Your voice.... It's soothing love that please start some kind of storytelling videos❤
Learn great inspiration to simplify your life and minimize stress. Thank you for the video!
Thank you for watching. I hope it's helpful for you too :)
I think the one in one out rule will be really helpful for me as I got my room decluttered but it has recluttered pretty fast. It is easy for small things to start to re-enter my space. I need to think through somethings that I don't need.
The two rules I’ve always applied are:
1. 30 Days to some times 60/90 days wish-listing
2. 1 in 1 out for clothes, makeup, electronics, footwear and so many more items! ❤
Just struggling to have essential mindset on skincare purchases because I’m fond of indulging in doing skincare trying products that I end up over purchasing 🙈
❤️❤️
One new thing at a time with skincare is the rule! However storing items to use is also ok provided you know you're going to use
1) Quality, not quantity.
2)Wait 30 days minimum on purchases.
3) One in One out rule (use up before buying new)
4) No Duplicate Rule
5) 25 Minute Rule for focus/work
6) The 90/90 decluttering rule
7) The Cost Calculator- cost behind price, what you gain vs lose
🙌❤️
About buying quality vs junk my rule is
"Suffer Once"
Always awaits for your videos. Nice one. Systems always matter. Love your 7 guidelines. Its all in the mind too.
Btw, where is your location now? Nice garden. Are you in the Philippines now?

Love all your content! Takecare.
Luvd ur vlog totally ❤
I never buy clothes online. I want to look at the item, try it on, etc. Also, I never buy new clothes, only preloved items from resale stores. Every new item you buy has taken something from our Earth to be made. Our Earth is covered with landfills. As for personal items other than clothes, I use up what I have before I buy another (if need be).
❤️❤️❤️
Many items are more expensive than new clothes unfortunately
Michelle
Freedom is what we do with what is done to us.
so happy seeing a new video from you 🌈🙏💜

You have beautiful hair 🤩
🥰❤️🫶 thank you
I like the rule buy nice instead to buy twice
Hoping to do housetour or house organization
All rules are very good, but I personally don't like the 90/90. I decluttered things that I need again 1 year later. So, for me, it doesn't work. But all the other rules are great.
I think this rule probably works best for those who have the same climate all year round. If I decluttered according to this rule now, I'd be dying of hypothermia come winter! But that's the cool thing with these guidelines - you can always adapt them to work for you. I get rid of anything I haven't worn the previous year because if I've not worn it in all four seasons then I'm unlikely to wear it in future.
@@pippas5808 yes, you are right. I too live in a state with 4 seasons, I would freezing too 😂
Also people generally treat more expensive items better leading to it lasting longer.
We shouldn't though. If you have it and use it take care of it
One celebrity stylist admitted that many celebrities wear *yutulu* . This is nothing new or strange. And many times we see celebrities posing in magazines, and the photos for promotions and advertisements are given by brands or borrowed by themselves.
I just finished reading Atomic Habits a few days ago. I was already minimalist but that book helped to reintroduce some positive habits I had stopped.
Yes! It's so good
Enjoy watching your videos , very helpful ❤️
I'm blessed only God knows how much I praise him, getting $70k bi weekly and I’m retired now. I’ve got a good cash and can also support my family😊

Thanks to my co-worker who suggested Ana Graciela Blackwelder…She's a licensed broker here in the states🇺🇸 and a financial advisor.

Wow! I know Ana Graciela Blackwelder and I have also had success...
After raising up to 70k trading with her, I got a new house here in US and also paid off my debts…Glory to God. Shalom🙏🙏
