Suuuuuch an awesome idea! I love that its not just a hidden door for the sake of having one, it's functional and makes so much sense! You need access, but not regularly, and no one else will ever need to know how to open it for their own purposes. Plus, I just LOVE a slat wall. 10/10 Love it.
Next time you need to attach a magnet to a door in a tight space -- Attach it to where you want it on the inside. Dot fingernail polish on the magnet and close the door. When you open it up this will show you where the metal plate needs to be attached. Seems to me this came either from DIY Danie or Alexander Gater. Awesome wall by the way. I have seen these panels used on several content creators that I watch and love to see that they are such a hit. Glad to have you back 😍
Install the magnet and just stick the head of a short screw, tack or drawing pin to the center of it. Close the door and the screw will either leave a point mark or be stuck to the door exactly where you need it. Nail polish adds a whole 'nother step of cleaning.
Great job but you should use a 'push to open' door catch, rather than a magnet...you push to open and push to close... then you dont need to worry about usng one of the slats as a handle!
I hear you! I personally like that they don’t. But, I guess that’s the beauty of DIY projects. We can all design them the way that works for us. And, thank you! 🫶
I've always wanted a secret door! We just put those panels up in our bedroom behind the bed. They look amazing and were not overly expensive! Great job!
You could mount a corner mount for a TV which would late flat centered on your pretty wall for general use, then we access required move TV to other wall open door, etc
Excellent work Sam. It will be very disappointing when a thief finds your hidden door, opens it and discovers; it's a utility closet, not your hidden Batgirl cave. Bwahahahahaha
Yayyay!!!@ EXACTLY WHAT I ASKED YOU CREATE! I know, it is a coincidence and I love it!!! You are amazing and do helpful with all your details and full disclosure! Thank you for all you do!!! ❤❤❤🥰💪🐕
It looks really good. Great choice for the wall. I know you mentioned you weren't done yet but not what else was to come. I think finishing the rest of the wall, with the same panels would look better than stopping 1/2 way at the mirror.
Beautiful, Sam! I was very surprised to see that you didn’t build out the wall for hidden storage! That would have required a few more doors, though… 😮 LOL
Those panels are awesome! A friend of mine asked me to make a wall like this years ago. I declined because it looked like a sad time to manually make it.
Love the way this turned out, and I absolutely love the use of the acoustic panels. But I'm very glad that you made sure people understood that they are *not* cheap, because they are priiiiiiiicey!! But that's in comparison to just 1x2's or plywood strips, which there is a lot more to these panels than just being cool looking wood, the backing is where the higher price point comes into play. They are made for keeping noise levels low, on both sides of the panel, hence the name acoustic panels. Anyway, the project looks great and I can't wait to see what you do next
Sam....how cool! Beautiful job, as usual😊 I missed you and you're DIY videos. Just know, that anything you do, I consider creative content. You're one of my favorite TH-cam people❤
We are hoping to finish part of our basement as a clean crafts room (3d printer, vinyl cutter, sewing machine, soldering station, cutting mat, etc.) separate from the dust of the woodshop. One thing we'll need to deal with in that area is the gas meter, main water shutoff, and electric panel, which are all in one corner. This could be a great way to make that area a little less obvious and make it a feature instead of a random door in the corner.
Sam I get so excited to watch you work you do it with such ease❤❤❤❤ I love how the angle is when you look by the mirror in the pitch from the ceiling. It looks so cool.
Love this! I also have these in my house, they just make a beautiful finish to the wall. We used them on two accent walls. Group go girl! Can’t wait to see the final results. 💪 ❤
Sam I love all the things that you have done to your & brothers place . Inspires me want to do things but I live in a rental. So I really can't do much that's permanent.
I recommend never using a 40year caulk unless you're working on a temporary project. Go 50year or more. The polymers are better and won't crack in a year. First house I built I did the entire house in DAP Alex Plus 40year. Around a year later it cracked and I had to do it all over. One of those things ya learn when building a house.
Aww...look at the pup's crop jacket. Nice job - as ever Chica. Do the slats come in different weights or depths. I'm thinking doing this to a row of closets, but worried about the weight the doors have to carry?
Isn’t he so cute!? They do! Actually, I just found a company that makes them super lightweight that I’m gonna be using in the van build. So I’ll hopefully be able to share a little bit more about them in a couple months and give a solid review!
Just curious, is the door hollow or solid? I have a similar door and I had to fix over the holidays. Just fyi to those who don’t know doors are a pain to fix unless you have help and a lot of shims and levels. Somehow my door still wound up skewed but the hinges are now secured. I now want to do this panel idea for the laundry room.
First, I can't believe how much more luxurious your basement room looks (even before it is completed) than any room in my house. Second, I know this isn't a typical kind of question asked of you but......what brand are your jeans and where did you get them? They are so cute :)
Ahah - our house is so small that I’m just trying to use every square inch of space we have and make it feel like a home. We’re three years in… We’ll get there one day! 😂 My jeans are typically Vans or P&Co!
Depends on the finish, size, and also time of year. I got these on a wild holiday sale. It was like $75 for two 8’ tall panels. Definitely not the cheapest option. But, I’m really happy with how easy it was to do and how it all turned out. 🫶
All by herself?!?!?! Liar!!!😅 Aero 100% helped with this project Homie. Ahhh I know you're reading this & thinking where does that Mike G guy come up with dis stuff??? Blessings my friend, Dirty Jersey out!!
????? Why didn’t you panel to the end of the mirror… just curious Looks like you ran out of materials But I do love your wall and especially the secret door ??? Is that a push and release magnet on the door ???
I just liked the look! And, it’s just a regular magnetic clasp. I linked to the one I used. I can just pull the door open really easily from the slats. ☺️

0:35 Doggo's like, "Dude. You could have warned me before you started hammering."
Ohhh!!!! YES!!! Inspiring, I want one for my ugly closet at the entrance!!! ....plus it enhances the accoustic of the room! :D

Yes! Saw it on Danie's channel! 💜

BTW designer and builder of 30 years here.

Here for the Sam Happy Dance!!! Love how much the panels transformed that corner of the room
Awesome project! Secret door is every kid's dream! We are all big kids, right?!
I absolutely love this idea, Sam! 🙌 your basement is going to be incredible once your finished with it (let’s be real-it already is!)
Looks great! I wish the slats covered the entire width of the mirror...but that's a picky wish. Great job!!!
I hear you! I personally like that they don’t. But, I guess that’s the beauty of DIY projects. We can all design them the way that works for us. And, thank you! 🫶
It needs to be an all HIDDEN AREAS home gym! Pull up a dumbbell and it calls your secret servant staff to get you a towel, LOL. Looks great!

Awesome accent wall Sam! Hidden doors are so FUN! 😮😆🤣

Ahaha - don’t worry. I’m actively working on a storage project in the basement next. So, stay tuned! 😉
@ I’ll be there!
Very cool !! Btw- level is horizontal and think of up and down as plumb - like a ‘plum tree’
Great job!! and no need to used special hinges...
Aero stylin’ in his little plaid hoody❤
So cool. Love the effect of the mirror being embedded in the wall.
Looks wonderful can’t wait to see your next video ❤
Those panels are awesome! A friend of mine asked me to make a wall like this years ago.
I declined because it looked like a sad time to manually make it.
Once again, Sam kicks ass!
I love a hidden door, but you make this ugly door look fantastic, what a great idea 💞

That looks sooo fire! But I expected nothing less from you.
Nicely done, Sam!
Great hideaway in case of emergency, too.
❤ the hidden door + mirror. You're so talented!

looks great, excellent work
Thank you!
What a modern clean look! Really like the vibe and texture.
Great work love you dog I will have to do this when I get my own place
Love this! I also have these in my house, they just make a beautiful finish to the wall. We used them on two accent walls. Group go girl! Can’t wait to see the final results. 💪 ❤
So cool! I love these panels & think they’d look great in my living room.
Hi Sam. If you changed the hinges to Soss model 218, or something similar, the door would be completely invisible. Just a thought.
Sam I love all the things that you have done to your & brothers place . Inspires me want to do things but I live in a rental. So I really can't do much that's permanent.
very sleek as always love it
I love the slatted wall! You always inspire me!
Looks awesome, though if I had to guess I would say the mirror was the hidden door. lol
The accent wall is super👏👏👏👏
Beautiful job! Success!

Very cool project! ❤
Fun project Sam. Turned out great.
Looks great, Sam. I am always envious of how you put up a few finishing touches and pull the whole project together.
I feel like the actual build process is the fun process for me. Those finishing touches stress me out sometimes. 🤣

Wow - looks awesome:)
Happy New Year! Beautiful idea and awesome look! 🤗
I got my dog that same hoodie, it's super cute
It really looks great, Sam! 😍👍
Oh, I forgot the puppy’s name! He looks so cute in his jacket 😘
Thank you! It’s Aero. ☺️ He’s in his dog-who-loves-wearing-clothes era and I’m obsessed.
Looking great
Wait, what screws did you use that catch the drywall without a plug?
Love these panels.
Right!? They’re so good!

Great work 👏🏻👏🏻
Absolutely luv this!

Looks good but the mirror looks out of place with the slats stopping in the middle.

Love this, but those panels/pole wrap is like $200/4'... it's no longwe cheap enough to DIY anymore- at least for me :(
it's very nice! but isn't it a cleaning nightmare with all these gaps?
Nope! I haven’t had to clean or dust the ones in the guestroom either and they’ve been up for over a year!
❤️🌹

Why are so many woodworking channels going to home remodeling?
You've checked plumb, not level.
A secret door you’ll never use… make a more functional one!
