Her voice is beyond extraordinary. She sings with such confidence and effortless ability that I'm continually stunned. I love when you can hear her breath control and the clarity of her voice. It's so pure and crisp. I just adore her and can kick myself for not listening to her earlier.
She also performed THE PRAYER along with Michael Bolton in this concert, and before they start singing together David Forster said " She flew from Russia where she just had a huge concert just few hours ago, she came straight to L.A and she is now here to sing for us. She had no time to resting or rearsheal after 12 hour in an airplane." ;) They also didn't practice together. Lara just made it from Moscow (after her concert) directly to L.A and started singing with him. She is so professional and confident. Classical vocal trained for over 12 years, plays piano and guitar, speaks fluently English, French, Italian, Spanish (and composes in all these languages), she is also able to speak and understand some Portuguese, Rússian, Greek and Flamish. She also sang another song that night, an Italian song called Caruso, which is in her native language (her mother was Italian and she lived there from 0 to 5 years old). Great reaction. I think you would enjoy her version from From Lara With Love too. Worth a listen. She makes some small different choices and the only accompaniment was the piano. The sound production in that smaller venue was very nice too, I thought. I believe it was David Foster who called her to a first meeting in New York and asked if she could really hit the G5 (?) live In Je Suis Malade. She said, well yes. He played it, she hit it, and then he said, you know, I'm having dinner with Barbra Streisand tonight. Would you like to come? And that's how she first got to meet her IDOL. 😆
Plus: Both, Seal and Michael Bolton has written on their twitters account at that night that they were talking behind the stage, then when they heard Lara's starting singing "Caruso", then they ran to watch her just behind the courtains, Seal said that they just got hipnotized. I already know it and saw her sing it live the first time long before she met David. I've been in the business 40 years. My colleague Ken was one of the first people who created American Idol
I don't want to pass for the nasty Frenchman because this interpretation is magnificent. But we have the impression that Americans are discovering interpretation, we have so many singers like that in France.. of course Lara Fabian combines AND the technique AND the interpretation AND the voice, which is rather unique, but you just have to listen to the original to understand already that the intention counts for a lot in the song. For me it's normal and I just find it surprising that we 'discover' this in Mrs. Fabian's cover, as excellent as she is, that's for sure!
Ouch, I don't like this version very much because the song is truncated from the last verse, the most beautiful one, that she used to sing before. I still think this song deserves to be complete and subtitled.
