I personally think 'Comparison Kills Joy' as I don't think anyone is better than the other - there are many talented people on this earth - different strokes for different folks as they say. The aforementioned are all really good at what they do, and they are all massive in their own right. At the end of the day people like who they want to like which is correct, but if we were to go on sales or fan base, Lara's wouldn't be as high and it's the man on the street who ultimately decides by the hero-worshipping (fan base) and buying the songs i.e. albums etc. To me, she is 'truly' wonderful, but the choices we make and the life paths we take determine our fate. Yes, an exquisite and finely-drawn performance by Lara. The first time I saw her, in 1995, I knew she was a special sort of singer. She has always lived up to that.

I would never understand how non-French speaking people can listen to this song without the subtitles. The meaning and Lyrics are so powerful and emphasizes her storytelling. It's always better if you understand what the singer says. There are a few versions of this same concert video, with subtitles. Your followers will thank you for it.
Hi Nick thank you for your comment. Much appreciated. However I prefer to not have subtitles which is my preference. To me a good artist should be able to convey a song well enough for me to then want to seek out more that's the whole point of talent. If one is good enough then people will seek to find out and not constantly be spoon fed. I personally find them distracting. You spend your whole time trying to keep up reading the subtitles, sometimes not quick enough which means you have to re-wind the video which then fractures the entertainment and your brain does not take in the performance well. I've been the business 30 years and my experience is what I convey. Also as I do my videos in up to 9 languages/captions/subtitles, people can actually turn on subtitles from their own computers which you probably weren't aware of . If people don't like my style they are free to move on, thats not a problem at all - but I do it my way as its my channel and it seems a lot are happy with this. With this performance there's a tell that the listener is really feeling the song, you got it for a very small moment, maybe because you didn't have the lyrics, IDK. It's a physical reaction : frown, no-no sign with the head, leaning back as if to protect yourself from what is coming... Lara doesnt sing, she emotes :)

All I expect, at the end, is for a musical/visual mix of Brigette Bardot to come out with "Aye, mambo, mamb Italiano, aye mambo..." because it would have released my emotional pressure. Try it. It may help in hind-sight too.
Actually it's a cover song which before was performed by iconic French singer Dalida. It's always an extreme effort to sing such a monumental songs which are remembered to be sung by great singers but Lara did an exceptional work. Her version is as great as original one. Outstanding vocals and interpretation. I also recommend "Je t'aime" from Laura. Probably her most famous song.
The translation does not convey the real sense when she says "je creverai seul". The subtitle say "die", but in French, the verb "crever" means dying in misery, in suffering, ignored by everyone

I tend not to like to see the subtitles first as a reactor as I believe that if a singer is good you should feel the emotion, then people can google it - that's who I run my channel. I did the same with Lara and I enjoyed her performance. Not everyone going to a concert will understand the language but if the artiste is good, then you would still be entertained. I've already seen Dimash - but lots of people have played him so much I think it is a marketing push which I do not like so may not play it. Im in th media to understand how it goes. Yes this performance is different but I don't think it is with everything he does, nor indeed any other singer, that's why there is no such thing as the best in the world otherwise no one would play any other artiste every which is ridiculous 😂🤦🏽♀️. There are many good people around a lot played on my own channel. Also I find 'personally' when you read subtitles you really cannot concentrate on the singing because you are trying to keep up the the titles - film is different because the visuals are large so even a deaf person could follow that easily. When I watched I I didn't watch or even hear him much as I was trying to keep up with the words hence I didn't really enjoy it, that is why as said, if a singer is good, no matter what they are. singing about, if the delivery is good then you can follow. I would never understand how non-French speaking people can listen to this song without the subtitles. The meaning and Lyrics are so powerful and emphasizes her storytelling. It's always better if you understand what the singer says.

Hi Nick thank you for your comment. Much appreciated. However I prefer to not have subtitles which is my preference. To me a good artist should be able to convey a song well enough for me to then want to seek out more that's the whole point of talent. If one is good enough then people will seek to find out and not constantly be spoon fed. I personally find them distracting. You spend your whole time trying to keep up reading the subtitles, sometimes not quick enough which means you have to re-wind the video which then fractures the entertainment and your brain does not take in the performance well. I've been the business 30 years and my experience is what I convey. Also as I do my videos in up to 9 languages/captions/subtitles, people can actually turn on subtitles from their own computers which you probably weren't aware of . If people don't like my style they are free to move on, thats not a problem at all - but I do it my way as its my channel and it seems a lot are happy with this. With this performance there's a tell that the listener is really feeling the song, you got it for a very small moment, maybe because you didn't have the lyrics, IDK. It's a physical reaction : frown, no-no sign with the head, leaning back as if to protect yourself from what is coming... Lara doesnt sing, she emotes :)

Lara has gone through a lot of heartbreak in past relationships. I think that is why she is able to channel this feeling in this song.
She is an epic storyteller & performing artist that can transform these lyrics and emotions in a very special way.
The emotions come from deep within her and she gives it her all. You can tell because after she ended this she needed a minute to come back to earth.
Even Serge Lama said in an interview that he considers Lara's interpretation of his song the best and that he was more than happy to gift this song to her.

Actually it's a cover song which before was performed by iconic French singer Dalida. It's always an extreme effort to sing such a monumental songs which are remembered to be sung by great singers but Lara did an exceptional work. Her version is as great as original one. Outstanding vocals and interpretation. I also recommend "Je t'aime" from Laura. Probably her most famous song.

The translation does not convey the real sense when she says "je creverai seul". The subtitle say "die", but in French, the verb "crever" means dying in misery, in suffering, ignored by everyone

I tend not to like to see the subtitles first as a reactor as I believe that if a singer is good you should feel the emotion, then people can google it - that's who I run my channel. I did the same with Lara and I enjoyed her performance. Not everyone going to a concert will understand the language but if the artiste is good, then you would still be entertained. I've already seen Dimash - but lots of people have played him so much I think it is a marketing push which I do not like so may not play it. Im in th media to understand how it goes. Yes this performance is different but I don't think it is with everything he does, nor indeed any other singer, that's why there is no such thing as the best in the world otherwise no one would play any other artiste every which is ridiculous 😂🤦🏽♀️. There are many good people around a lot played on my own channel. Also I find 'personally' when you read subtitles you really cannot concentrate on the singing because you are trying to keep up the the titles - film is different because the visuals are large so even a deaf person could follow that easily. When I watched I I didn't watch or even hear him much as I was trying to keep up with the words hence I didn't really enjoy it, that is why as said, if a singer is good, no matter what they are. singing about, if the delivery is good then you can follow. I followed Lara's so that's my case. But I understand all points for a balanced view. Anyhow hope France is ok - lockdown has finished here now, but shops are empty of supplies - weird situation.
