@@SeriousD321 yeah something I started noticing after watching Chris Harris reviews are that in a lot of the drift shots during the old trio’s time, they do what they can to mask the driver, like low angle shots and camera shake added when you would get the chance to see them (check the m3 vs i8 video and see if you can tell if it’s Jeremy in exterior drift shots). When they are shown in convertibles and it’s significantly more difficult to mask the driver, drifting is a lot shorter and snappier, which looks more like inciting oversteer and then catching it. Those who drift know there’s a huge difference between the two, but for short shots they work just fine. Richard Hammond does actually say this during his drift lesson on grand tour season 1 that he never learned to properly drift, but that he can invoke a slide and catch it.
Not really. KIAs are selling like mad right now in the US. Although admittedly not the Stinger. But the point of a car like this is to generate excitement in the brand.
Just for those who want to know the place, that's actually the North of Mallorca, the road that takes to Sa Calobra. The place at the top, that is, the start line for the skaters, the finish line for James, is unsurprinsingly named "the knot of the tie", as it's a 270º right hander going down. Then it's well over 9 kms (well over 5,6 miles) of turn after turn after turn after turn going down. It's kind of a mini Stelvio if you will. I was there many, many years with my class on a bus, and in case any of you ever goes there, I have to give you the same advice the guide told us back then: "If any of you gets sick with these so many turns and this height, do as our bus driver does: close your eyes."
He's done it before, but even since he's learnt, he chooses not to if possible, & for racing you don't want to slide, but with the tech in modern cars, you can do it easier, & not have to worry you're going to go if the road, which is clearly very dangerous here. Everyone's been taking about how the stinger is the best cheap car in that class, can just about keep up with the big boys (& I'm not only taking about speed, things like looks, interior, equip etc.), who cost much more. I said Hyundai/Kia Wer always cheaper, slightly rubbish cars, except to a friend who's dad worked for Hyundai, then in 2010 when they rebranded they came out swimming & are still improving marginally.

James isn't wrong. I personally experienced what a fall from a piece of wood going, fast, not 75 mph fast, but 18 mph, can do to a human body. I broke my leg in 2 places, now I am like a cyborg, with a titanium plate within my leg. So yea, it's risky as fuck
@@superbarnie well you wrong about it helmet more likely used because it help them to breath and see less for protection they more of bicycle than motorcycle helmets and suits are not such protective as motorcycle ones they more about helping aerodynamics and extra speed

Weirdly, I won't day I disagree, but find it harder to do so for a race, where you have to close a road, have other competitors, esp on a narrow road like this were you can't stop & turn around! I know they obviously do it for shooting of car just going down a road, because they set up, tell them to come past, then reset, but it would just take to much time here I feel, which the likely didn't have. Possibly what happened is James did the race, then a real driver went up, to film other bits, or vice versa, but that's a max of twice they could've shot

Holy shit the guy on the right is James Kelly! He was my favorite downhill skater when I was into this as a teenager. I loved everything they put out on Skatehouse Media. Then I moved to flat, flat, Dallas, TX and couldn't skate fast anymore.
It is, a decade ago korean cars were utter crap but they have really stepped up their game with design and quality, the stinger is now a legit Mercedes competitor

That's Sa Colabra in Mallorca, I went down there top to Bottom on a bicycle in 15 Minutes, it took 1 Hr 20 Minutes to rdie back up was the only thing. :D It's an awesome stretych of road , on the way down the cars were moving over to let the bikes past :D
Me too. Great ride. My mate came a cropper near the bottom. I would ride from Palma to Soller, over Puig Major and into Sa Colabra and return. 6 hrs and 3600m of climbing. I lived in Mallorca for 5 years.
He hasn't aged much in 20 years, though you have to consider he looked older than he was back then. His style has also slightly improved, remember the shirt he wrote in his first episode on the show
I watched this on my phone and was thinking the way he was talking he had been up this course several times "hit the apex" "mind the rocks" etc etc. Sounded like he's been up there multiple times. But I was also thinking the boarders could have beaten him anyway and they could have lied to him for the reaction. It's obviously a car promotion and wouldn't be much of an ad if James lost

Whenever you stop the video at a point where you can see the car from the front or the side, the driver's face is "blurred". But you can often see the passenger seat in detail.
I'd care to see the time difference had James also done his run downhill minutes after the boarders . The uphill run helped to control his top speed , aiding his cornering . Downhill the increased speed and braking into turns should increase the possible collision with a rock wall . Also an increased pucker factor .
