Okay, the Archer's sacrifice/Hunter's death should've been HIGHER on this list! You have NO idea what it took for the Archer to make that sacrifice. Mystics don't have any ambition, the Skeksis' are the halfs that inherited all of the ambition. So for Archer to muster up something that he doesn't possess to make the sacrifice - knowing FULL well that he'll never be reunited with his other half, unlike the other Mystics - is a marvel.
That is such an interesting comment. I just finished the show and was wondering why all the mystics didn't just do like Archer and killed themselves to kill the Skesis. Thought it was quite a plot hole to present the mystics as purely good but then letting all gelflings get killed by Skesis. Now thanks to you I understand it. It's not just a separation between good and bad, it much more that that.
Exactly! In the original film, the narration is clear that the Mystics live in forgetfulness. They survive and wait, they don’t MAKE anything happen. They literally have no drive whatsoever. So for the Archer to make this sacrifice is just amazing. And hey, I COULD be your Mystic half. I too am extremely forgetful and have little drive :P jk!
I personally think it's one of the best sacrifices I've seen in TV/movies. It's one of the few times where not only was the sacrifice needed, but I actually really liked the character.

Society hasn't overcome cartoon bias, imagine puppet animation... This is the best thing that could have happened to the high fantasy genre after that shameful finale seasons of game of thrones.
People are put off by puppets and reluctant to watch. But talk of how amazing the show is is spreading around the internet really fast! Considering that it's only been out for a few weeks, it already has a pretty impressively massive and growing fanbase. I hope it soon gets even more of the attention it deserves!

It is not. The Dark Crystal is a classic gem. Sold a shitton of VHS and got some books and stuff. You just discovered it now, that's why you think it's underrated. Do your research
It seemed like it's very likely to happen. I watched a clip of an interview of one of the executive producers yesterday (Javier Grillo-Marxuach), and he said that he was forbidden to even say the name of the second season, which at the very least suggested they are very serious about continuing into season 2. It also surprised me that although he noted the series was quite expensive to make, he indicated other Netflix series were actually more expensive. To me Age of Resistance looked like no expense was spared. I don't know how it could have looked any better (I watched it in Dolby Vision on an OLED, BTW), and the cast and crew they assembled was extraordinary. Perhaps the biggest shock to me was, although I was in the camp insisting this series had to be built around puppetry, the CGI that was used much to my surprise may be the highest quality and most skillfully implemented I've seen in a series and in my view more impressive than a lot of big budget blockbuster movies.
Um yeah... I'm gonna need a Season 2. I loved the Dark Crystal growing up and was very excited for the series which definitely did NOT disappoint. The only part I disliked the most about it was that it eventually ended :(. I tried very hard not to crush it all in one day -- watching it throughout a week instead.
Yes! Hup gave the show so much joy in all the darkness. His pure love and faithfulness to Deet made the show. In a show full of rich amazing characters and fantastic storylines..Hup was hands down my favorite character.
This show I think has the best voice cast of anything in any media, especially the Skesis. It is incredible the people they got for something that could have been considered a kids show.
And even more incredible to see who they got for roles with not so many lines. Like Mark Strong for Ordon, Alicia Vikander for Mira, Natalie Dormer for Onica and damn, Sigourney Weaver as the narrator, who only narrates the beginning of the first episode! The whole cast is amazing, but I've got to say I'm most impressed with Nathalie Emmanuel, Andy Samberg, Awkwafina and Mark Hamill.
It would be amazing if dark crystal brought a resurgence of the mupperty. The way the show mixed the puppets with CGI should be a MasterClass on why it is just as important to have both rather to rely fully on CGI.
@@conradmonson30 Definitely. The test footage was certainly... something. But hell, it was thanks to that test footage that we saw everything get turned around suddenly and we found ourselves getting a series that was mainly puppetry with a touch of CGI to just enhance everything.
You know a S2 will be very unlikely, not with Deet and Co. they ended S1 to have a connection to the movie. So they would need to break these connections and rebuild them AGAIN.

If anything it will be a season showing that everyone is being killed xD And what makes you sure it is dozens of years? Could just be some, we are not sure.
The entire show is packed full of omg moments but poor gentle Deet broke my heart and blew me away when she unleashed that purple lightning. I actually cried a few times during this show it was so powerful, the music really packs a punch. 10/10 for the whole show.

Hup deserved more than just an honourable mention. Also, why is every time Skeksil said "Mmmmmm" not on the list somewhere. Simon Pegg's performance was the standout one in my opinion.
I loved the original, and I love the prequel series so much more! I do like the sweet song that they all sing to remember the fallen...that for me was one of my favorites!
It's great to see Dark Crystal, Age of Resistance, a prequel to Original Henson film. And the quality which has gone into remaking of series. Jim Henson probably smiling in Heaven.
S1 was absolutely outstanding. A true achievement by the Henson team and Netflix. Congratulations on bringing the incredible Dark Crystal mythology to life for a modern audience (I was 12 when the movie came out). Can't wait for season 2!!

Honestly I think some of my favorite scenes were when Mother Aughra was singing and called everyone to Dreamcast together, and when Rian called everyone together cause it was so incredible to see him finally able to tell everyone the truth and be believed in

Man the late 70s into 80s was a great time. Movies like this or Star Wars, games such as Phantasy Star and Final Fantasy. A lot of great high fantasy and Sci fi was born around that time that still has huge followings today.

I rewatched this show a million times and I always think that number 5 should’ve been higher. It’s definitely number 1 in my book! It shows so much without saying a thing. Love and hatred, gain and loss, life and death. Kylan mentions that life and death are not a line, but a circle, and it’s shown in this scene perfectly. I cry every time I watch it. Absolutely amazing writing, acting, puppetry, music, everything! I can gush about it all day ❤️
I can see 3 seasons coming from this series.. Season 1: the begining of the resistance and the start war of gelfling and skeksis. Season 2: events taking place durring the war and the unfortunate downfall of the gelfling resistance.. Season 3: a timeskip that gives an episodic retelling of the original dark crystal movie.
I'd give an honorable mention (personally it's my top 3 moments) to Chamberlain killing the General. We all saw it coming, but to see it made Chamberlain that guy you don't want to screw over. (Even after we see him screw over the scientist.) Love him!
DP3com yes Chamberlain is quite the character he plays like he’s dumb but he’s very clever and he doesn’t hesitate to let the others know that you don’t make a deal with him and you don’t try to double cross him, he’s got to be my favorite of the skeksis
Sucks that the meeting of the Gelfling, thanks to Aughra, within Dreamspace, where the fires of resistance and the joining of the clans was first established, didn’t make the list. I was in awe of that moment it was that amazing.
Considering most remakes/prequels are subpar these days, a perfect example of a prequels done right,....and Netflix throws it away...!💔. We want season 2!! Don't leave Deet like that😔
The film and this series are magic - a rich and imaginative fantasy also the Skesis are the ultimate villains, always found it to be quite underrated. Still gutted about the cancellation.
I'm surprised the scene where all the gelfling clans arrive to save Rian and everyone wasnt on this list at all. That was one of the most memorable scenes for me. How could it not be? It pretty much was where we found out if the gelfling clans would fight or not, more or less.
I'm rewatching this season for the 5th time already it is effing beautifully done and is a complete masterpiece I love this series it's probably among my most favorite and best watched
In a way it’s nice it didn’t end like Game of Thrones, the characters still have their dignity in tact. But I would self finance this thing myself if I could reasonably make a difference. I need season 2, it’s been long enough.

I'm calling it here. Rian is Jen's father and Brea is Kira's mother! When Deet had her vision, Brea is the one to hide a baby from the Garthim in a tree trunk. And Jen looks almost identical to Rian.
I think the scene where Brea and her sisters reunite should be on here. I love Tavras character, and Seladons arc really speaks to me. The scene where they all hug each other melts my heart.
That carriage ride conversation is so essential in the story that is amazing. Jim Henson Productions is great within that fantasy setting. Could they make it a live action movie one day?, it resembles LOTR.
My favorite time that I always randomly think of is when Rian is in the carriage with the Chamberlin. When they are fighting about going to war. “War is end!” “Unless we win!” I love it

DP3com yes Chamberlain is quite the character he plays like he’s dumb but he’s very clever and he doesn’t hesitate to let the others know that you don’t make a deal with him and you don’t try to double cross him, he’s got to be my favorite of the skeksis

I would put the Hunter scenes (the Rian/father scene and the Archer suicide scene) as the top 2.
These are some epic moments I particularly like the History lesson through puppets. Now that's Meta. A puppet controlling a puppet? Wow Mindblown

This series is brilliant, It's a true work of art when you can make puppets generate more emotion then current real live actors.

I'm soooo pissed this got canceled. It was an awesome show, well done, thoughtful, true to canon, just the right amount of cgi, fantastic.

Sucks that the meeting of the Gelfling, thanks to Aughra, within Dreamspace, where the fires of resistance and the joining of the clans was first established, didn’t make the list. I was in awe of that moment it was that amazing.
Considering most remakes/prequels are subpar these days, a perfect example of a prequels done right,....and Netflix throws it away...!💔. We want season 2!! Don't leave Deet like that😔
I mean the whole 10 episodes are without a doubt mesmerising, but for me personally the death of the All Maudra was one of my favourite parts.
The film and this series are magic - a rich and imaginative fantasy also the Skesis are the ultimate villains, always found it to be quite underrated. Still gutted about the cancellation.

That was one of the most memorable scenes for me. How could it not be?
It pretty much was where we found out if the gelfling clans would fight or not, more or less.

I'm rewatching this season for the 5th time already it is effing beautifully done and is a complete masterpiece I love this series it's probably among my most favorite and best watched

I feel like Brea is such an underrated character. She has to be my favorite, honestly.
It’s comforting to know that characters we see in the movie are safe, but it still brings me anxiety
In a way it’s nice it didn’t end like Game of Thrones, the characters still have their dignity in tact. But I would self finance this thing myself if I could reasonably make a difference. I need season 2, it’s been long enough.

I'm calling it here. Rian is Jen's father and Brea is Kira's mother! When Deet had her vision, Brea is the one to hide a baby from the Garthim in a tree trunk. And Jen looks almost identical to Rian.
My favorite part is the skesis and misteek living together. A skesis who wants to rejoin with his counterpart is a huge first.
As I can't get Netflix, this is actually the only way I can watch this. Thx Watch Mojo

I think the scene where Brea and her sisters reunite should be on here. I love Tavras character, and Seladons arc really speaks to me. The scene where they all hug each other melts my heart.
The "omg, she's dressed as a skesis!" dialogue made me laugh so hard. I love this show hope season 2 isn't far away..
That carriage ride conversation is so essential in the story that is amazing. Jim Henson Productions is great within that fantasy setting. Could they make it a live action movie one day?, it resembles LOTR.
It took me until the third episode to realize that the skexis' tongues move so weirdly. I was hypnotized every time they talked ever since.
This show was pretty damned intense.
