- Episode 6 of Short Stories showcases that one of the best Giant Black Marlin fishing destinations in the world is right on our doorstep on the Great Barrier Reef.
Every year the heavy tackle season brings renowned captains, boats and serious anglers to Cooktown in Far North Queensland, on a mission to catch a Grander - the 1000lb Black Marlin.
We spent 5 days and nights fishing with our good mate Kleiny, one of Australia’s top game fishing captains, who runs “Deploy” - a 58 foot Assegai, built purely for this type of fishing up on the Great Barrier Reef. With 5 of our best mates and 2 awesome crew, we had the experience of a lifetime.
Mornings started with swims and snorkelling on the reef, followed by spearfishing for some Coral Trout and a jig for some Dogtooth Tuna, or mixing it for a stick bait on some GTs - to then bait fishing catching bait big enough to call dinner for a week - which includes Spanish Mackeral, tuna, wahoo, scaleys, the list goes on.
Afternoons were spent trolling the reefs, targeting marlin in comfort on the deck and enjoying the boat's mezzanine. And in the evenings we'd relive the moments from the day, catch trevally right off the back of the boat (on a handline with a hook and no bait!), and drank and ate like kings with 5-star catering cooked fresh by the crew.
Our first fish was one most only dream about; a giant black marlin well over 1000lbs!! Followed by a 700lb, 600lb, and a few other monsters, totalling 9 marlin in 5 days and hundreds of other fish and good times.
Once you experience a trip like this, safe to say, you'll never go a year without heading north again. - บันเทิง
Incredible...Aussies rock mate!!!
That's incredible the size that those beasts grow, getting the new boat very soon and excited to go out. Great video
You guys are living the best dream! Ive dreamed of going to Australia since I was a child. And when I heard about the black & blue Marlins there. That was the cherry on top of that dream. If I could go there just once, catch my first Marline (black or blue) Id die a happy man. Ive traveled all over the U.S. And Im ready to go off U.S. soil. And Australia would my first choice. BEAUTIFUL CATCH!
Epic video boys
Good edit! Top stuff! Kleiny still frothing on it after all these years!
@ 2:30, was this fish regurgitating old meals while it was thrashing?
Where was the grander? Didn't see it.
How much is it to hire a fishing trip with these guys ?
Probably thousands of dollars
*Aussies sound like Donald Duck.*
Damn. I’m jealous. 😮
Is that the fastest fish ever?
Yeah I think they are
Ok am I the only one who is confused why you would be cooking up steaks even really nice looking steaks when you are on a boat catching amazing fresh fish you could be eating. Shit I would be having the best sashimi in the world if I were on that boat. But I guess you can’t eat fish for every meal (although I think you can) and I do love a great steak!
Because they are amazing steaks and part of the whole amazing experience. Eating all of the best meals, including some amazing sashimi, coral trout and Spanish mackerel, while anchored up inside the GBR. Nice to mix it up!
Funny you still criticize someone on something you have no conceivable knowledge of. Just because you’d rather eat something else doesn’t mean anyone cares- it’s kinda about the size of the fish found on the GBR not fluffing dinner. Then again it’s ignorant people who make everyone else look good.
YOUSE GUYS need to hook up a thousand lb bull and hook it to a 4 wheeler and lots of drag and let him drag ya around fer hours ... OH YA !
Why do they all got problems talking?..is it something in the water
Boo hoo my accent is the only acceptable one
?
This comment is posted on behalf of fish everywhere: Imagine the pain and terror a fish experiences when a needle-sharp hook rips into its flesh; then the agonizing struggle for its life as it frantically swims to get free. Next, imagine a fisherman eating a juicy cheeseburger when suddenly a treble hook (hidden in the burger) rips into his cheek and he's yanked out of his chair, then lifted to the ceiling with his entire body weight supported by the hook in his jaw. Now, that's a video worth watching! Happy Fishing, everyone!
No one cares😂
Keep crying buddy 😂
