there are a few really cool designs from NYC apartments that keep the desk level as you lower the bed, so you dont need to move everything off it. might be more diy engineering than it is worth however
I think this would be great if you were traveling in a van but maybe not LIVING in it. Losing under-bed storage and cabinets where this Murphy bed is might not be worth the extra space if you have ALL of your belongings in the van. But for a part time camping situation I think it’s amazing!
@ThePipingViking not necessarily, it rather depends on how you wish to utilize said space. If you prioritize room to moove around or have more seating, then more storage space would be a waste of space 🙂
I do like that its not tucked away in a cold corner. And having the bed suspended like that keeps the air flow too. It has good solid physics reasons to be better than the typical Caravan/RV bed.

I like this style. I like the riser that has a button to lift up to the ceiling but I worry what happens if you run out of power or what if it falls. This bed to me feels better
Too old to be pulling down a bed making it up and taking it all apart in the morning flipping everything back into position. I just want to sleep and then have coffee when I wake. 😅❤☕
My build would have a twin as the bed and the "filler" turn it into a full (or queen?) if needed. I likely would only be solo with the occasional "guest" when appropriate. Also, my kitchen might be what gets covered with the bed down as I would never be cooking and sleeping at the same time.... but IDK for sure yet. 🤔
@@mikeb8342that’s a great idea to have it cover the kitchen area instead of a couch area. I was thinking a lift would be nice to have more space but I don’t like the idea of it being too small to stand up in . Would you do a rear kitchen with the bed covering it ?

If you had the same seats right And left And a table in the middle You can remove the center post out of the floor And lay the table even with the seats making a bed The mattress in sections using the seats cushions that fold out Dad had a notch at the bottom of his seats where you could angle in the table to the floor The base for the bottom of the table was counter sunk covering the base on the floor of the van
I've been playing with the idea of a Murphy bed in my build. What I will wonder out loud here is couldn't we claim some of that blank space (bottom of the bed) when its up for storage. Obviously you'd be storing things that won't mind being tossed on its side (TP, towels, whatever). Van life is about maximizing every inch.
You could build shallow cubbies with nets to hold stuff in. Personally, I see that space as where a table or counter space would fold out, but storage is always good, too.
Waste of usable space if you ask me. I do van life full time and wish I had a van that tall. Definitely wouldn't waste the space with a Murphy bed. Why not use a crank system and lower the bed from the top and still have space to store on the sides or cabinets or whatever.
I think it would be great as long as you are actually utilizing the free space when its put up. Also, more moving parts = more stuff that can fail. You arent going to have problems with a static bedframe. Would hate to have to fix that on the fly.

This is just genius. I'm building my camper with this excact layout in the back. Shower/toilet will be in the front and the space extends with a sliding door. So same idea applies that stuff folds away when not in use. A van should be built differently than a box RV.
Yes for space saving and quick set up at night, but no for long term since mattress could get mouldy. But I guess if someone had that set up for long term, they would take the mattress out to fully air out in the sun a couple times a month then it'll be okay
They always look stylish when up but I prefer permanent beds with the head against the side wall if you can fit. You get more storage and it makes the van feel wider. For me bed, gaming area, cooking area, full fridge, electric hob, no gas, and compost toilet. Kitchen floset retractable to go out of the window for shower. If it’s cold, don’t shower or wild swim, even in the cold. Done!
Nice clean look - could maybe install a flat-pack style fold-down table on that face to use when the bed it in-wall, from the walkway - laptop support or such, that secures when bed up and traveling and again when bed is down.
I think would make more sense to put on the opposite side so when you put it down it covered the seating area(though you would have to move the seating area on the left out about a foot to fit the bed behind it. That way you could put storage and a computer setup on the right side which could be used as a workstation when the bed is up. Either way the van is absolutely gorgeous.
I'm a hard no on Murphy beds in an already very narrow space. To each their own, but I would rather have more versatile space with a galley design straight through and just make my bed each night. I'm a bit claustrophobic though, so Murphy beds taking up window and walking space just aren't for me.

It’s easy to tilt, spring Assist makes it lite. Gives you a living room when up to relax during day
Options. Its its the fact tgat you can leave it down OR put away.
You can leave it made up. Just a couple of straps to hold the bedding in place. Great solution for space.
So have your coffee and then you'll have enough energy to make up your bed.

A murphy bed is a smart idea however everyone loves to watch movies or shows in bed. The monitor was installed in the wrong location.
There is a rear power shade that comes down to watch tv from a projector
