She was actually 20 when she hit the college music scene with The Lion and The Cobra and got a Grammy nomination. She was huge in 1987. Here she is 23 and wasn't expecting how huge it was going to be. The way she sings from low to high, to loud to whisper is her unique style she has always had especially the little yodel like sounds she makes. I suggest you react to the 87 album

Senead🤗 a beautiful woman with a tortured soul, she suffered abuse as a child and at the hands of her own mother, a year before she released this her mother died in a car accident, I think this was senead's tribute to her mother as she forgave her for what she put her through, realising that her mother had mental health issues that wasn't addressed at the time because it wasn't a thing that was talked about as it is today, if anything it was taboo just like homosexually. This Song was written by Prince in the 80's, the original lyrics halfway through the song are "all the flowers that you planted in the backyard" but senead added "Mamma" in her version. Senead's love for her mother and her forgiveness speaks volumes about the woman that senead was. Then tragically her son took his own life just over a year ago and now she has passed.
A very talented lady who was vilified and slated for her stance against the Catholic Church. Only now are people coming out and saying what she said about the Catholic Church is true, Only now people are saying thank you Sinead for giving us a voice, she was a trailblazer and a strong willed women who stood up and questioned what was going on within the Catholic Church in Ireland.
I'm so glad that the people of Ireland gave her the send off that she deserved.
    RIP Senead ❤️

This is her "main stream" hit... You should check out her music from 'Lion & The Cobra' which she was nominated for a Grammy for 'Mandinka' but my favorite track is 'Troy' (oh and if you watched 'Euphoria' her song 'Drink Before the War' is featured when Cal goes back to this bar he use to go to as a kid and when Cassie is getting drunk at Maddie's birthday dinner.

Thank you so much Chad, great reaction, (though maybe a tad too many pauses)
The song was written by Prince after he missed his beloved maid who had to return back to her own family.
Sinead, who is Irish, covered this song, shortly after her own mother died in a car crash. Sinead makes references to her mother in the song, she reportedly had a bad relationship with her mother who, reportedly, physically beat her as a child, but she still missed her mother, as the car crash happened just before Sinead covered the song.
Sinead did not want to be sexually objectified in the video (unlike most of todays singers) so she deliberately chopped off all her hair, only wanted head shots, and covered her body in long dark clothes so all the attention went into her amazing, powerful, emotional voice.
Sinead had morals (unlike many of todays singers who just do it solely for the money and fame), she tore up Pope John Paul's 11 photo because he ignored the child abuse claims against the catholic church, back in 1990, then ignorant people made a skit of her. Only recently, the child abuse claims got worldwide attention and caused the catholic church to apologise (20+ years after Sinead tore up that photo).
Sinead had a moral compass, a beautiful human being.
One year ago (2022) she lost her son to suicide, one year later, we all lost our beloved Sinead.
Sinead, you are missed, Ireland and the world misses you.
    Rest In Peace Sinead xx

In memory of seeing a MTV interview. The reason for the closeup I do believe that the video is a recording of the song. She did this studio wise and it's a pre-release of the song to. Meaning it's not even lip-sync. The closeup is actually hiding the mic that we don't even know is there. Now I'm not sure if the vid was out with the song? Though I think this is the first time that a recording live was ever done as a professional video. It's indeed incredible!

  • @lewiewanie

Prince wrote this song in 1984. Sinead O’Connor did this cover version in 1990. It went to no.1 in the UK charts and no.1 in 17 other countries. She tweaked the script slightly to make it a female version. The part she had tears in (All the flowers that you planted, Mama, in the backyard….) was when she was thinking about her mum in that moment, who died in a car crash in 1985. Three weeks before that accident, Sinead wanted to forgive her Mum for all the abuse she gave her. She had a very difficult life with her mum, and wanted to forgive her, but it was too late. All the other lyrics in this song (written by Prince) wasn’t about her life. She chose this song because she loved it herself.

Prince DID sing it in a bit of an upbeat and flirty way. Sinéad made it hears, put the emotions into it which matched the lyrics. Prince was apparently not happy at all that she covered it, that she understood it better than himself, I suspect… And when you know about her horrible home life growing up, the song becomes even more devastating.
I always found her strikingly beautiful too. Shaving her head was a protest against the beauty ideals of the industry, but it just made her even more amazing looking. Those eyes! Rest in peace Sinéad.

Sinéad O’Connor is an Irish singer and as most Irish people sing every type of music Trad, Sean-nós, folk . If you listen to other Irish singers, they do something similar, but they each have their own unique sound. It’s just beautiful Dolores O’Riordan, Andrea Corr’s, and a lot of the male singers.
The thing that separates Sinéad , is she’s not worried about hitting notes, and sounding perfect. It’s about getting to the emotion and allowing that out, allowing the truth to be heard.

Sinéad had an unique voice, powerful and beautiful. Her connection to emotion was astounding. She was 23 or 24 when she recorded this video. She thought about her mum when she sang this song. Her mum died 5-6 years before this video was recorded. Her mum also violently and brutally physically, emotionally, psychologically, and sexually abused her when she was a child. And others raped her when she was very little. Music industry men sexually harassed her too. Some of her ex-partners and other men who were men she had children with also engaged in long harrowing battles for custody using her children to hurt her. Men and her mum inflicted a lot of pain to her from childhood till death in her personal life. A lot of public figures retraumatised her too like Madonna, Myley, Frank Sinatra, Prince, Bob Johnson III, Camille Paglia, Joe Pesci, Peter Gabriel, etc. She stood up against child abuse, the Catholic Church for its lies, greed, and crimes, the British Empire for its lies and crimes (like the big Irish Famine taught in school but never mentioned the Brits were looting Ireland and taking all its food away to Britain for example. Listen to Famine her rap song, also amazing), racism, and sexism. She was a very spiritual woman who connected with the Catholic figure of the Virgin Mary 1st, then with the divine feminine in other religions and Goddesses, and from 2018 with Islam which to me was a bit of a curve ball as the Quran is as patriarchal as Christianity, but not up to me what she chose to believe in. I'm glad she found some peace and joy temporarily in it nonetheless. Sinéad was a very talented musician and singer. I recommend reacting to her 1st hit "Mandinka" about racism based in the racial tv series "Roots". Other songs to react to would be "Fire in Babylon", "No man's woman", "Molly Malone" (one of my fave covers of hers), "War" (another fave cover), "Whomsoever dwells", "Take off your shoes", and "Take me to Church". Hoping we can add more new songs never published now after her passing. I'm still mourning her loss. Never seen anyone with such passion and unwavering fight against child abuse, lies, and injustice.
A bit of feedback, I'd avoid talk about your renovations and fly in the video or leave it for the beginning or the end of the video before you react to the song. But that's only my bit of feedback, my opinion.

Whether you react to it or not, for context on Sinead’s legacy you should watch her SNL performance of War where she protested child abuse in the Catholic Church before the church was outed for all of its crimes against children. It literally destroyed her career in the US and is why she never had another hit single here. But she never stopped making music and never stopped being afraid to be controversial and a truth teller through her music.
The majority of her catalog is very personal songs she wrote herself. But she’s unfortunately mostly known for a cover song and an act of protest on live tv that she was right about all along
