Our PS4 was overheating anytime we played a game for more than 10 minutes. Sounded like a goat screaming into an industrial fan. We followed your video and now it's as quiet as a church mouse and we can play games again! Much thanks

Thank you. My PS4 (original launch model) had reached the point where I had to play with headphones as the fan was working so hard, especially if a game was paused. Now it’s quiet as a mouse again, and looks practically brand new.
I just cleaned my ps4. I’ve had it for 6 years smh and all I can say is unbelievable when I took the casing off all I seen was black dust. I couldn’t see the fan blades at all. It took me a while to thoroughly clean it. Every day it made a noise when I played any game. Now I can’t even tell that it’s on and it loads faster. Thanks man I appreciate the step by step.
I cleaned my Ps4 after 7 long years, It was so, fulfilling doing it. I cleaned it so well, even if i put me ear next the ps4, I still can't hear loud noises. My fan wasn't that dirty, but my power supply litreally had so much durt inside it was pointless to clean, it made no difference. But still if you spend a little bit if time, you learn of lot of things along the way, as you go. I do recommend getting the right screwdriver, because if you don't have it, those security screws ain't coming off.
When putting my power supply back in, the fit felt a little tight. The console would not turn on. Turns out, there are 2 silver prongs sticking up next to the power supply connector. Mine were slightly bent and both inserting into the same slot. Be sure they have the proper gap between them and are not bent. Once I adjusted the gap, the power supply inserted smoothly and the console is working normally. Hopefully this helps someone.
literally the most informative, easy to understand and straight to the point video about ps4 maintenance i could find. most other vids weren't even clear on how to slide the top open lmao.
When I re-assembled my ps4, it did not turn on again. Only the blue light blinked for a short time. How I fixed it: After I removed the power supply, the two silverish metal pins that go straight up were bent towards one another, so that they went into the same hole of the power supply. They need to be separate, as you see in the video and go into different holes of the power supply, so I bent them apart again. May this help someone who runs into the same problem. Happy gaming.

I recently took my PS4 to a repair shop, they put in a faster HDD (7200 rpms). They said the original Korean drive is not that good and dies after a certain time. He also cleaned it, I just got a new power cord for it. I have it sitting on my glass shelf but it's not getting the best airflow. So now I brought it down and I'm hoping it powers on and stabilizes. I've been having random start up and shut down issues. Now the fan shoots up, it beeps twice and it powers off.

You’ve just saved my PlayStation , I bent the pins getting it out and went to turn it on but didn’t. So I checked and they were bent. Put them back into position works well.

My dad bought an used PS4 around 4 months before Christmas and gave it to us the 25. It was dusty and since day one i thought that playing videogames with that reaaaaally loud fan was part of the experience, i thought it was because the games i played were kinda heavy. Now i play those games in silence and oh man is it satisfying. Thanks
this was extremely helpful. i’ve had my ps4 since 2013 as well and this was my first time cleaning it. i thought the video was very easy to follow and it made a good project for quarantine. my ps4 use to sound like a jet engine but now it can barely be heard. thank you for the help!!
Ezzz ツ you could buy any compressed air can and it will be alright👍🏽, and let your ps4 dry off from the compressed air , don’t use the air can too much or it will start shooting frost. Long story short take your time and you’ll be fine
Ezzz ツ I just went to a target by my house and bought the canned air in the electronic section. It’s label said it was designed for dusting electronic devices so that’s what I got. Wasn’t too expensive it was like 10$ for a double pack
@@anonymousthanks4718 The heat is internal not external so stuff like that isn't gonna help much, if at all. Also the real issue is most likely the ps4 heatsink has too much dust build up in it blocking air flow. Which again is internal problem that requires you to open up the system to fix. As no matter what you do heat will keep building up from the inside if it's not fixed.
Got my PS4 in 2014 (5yrs old) after a couple of years (Australian summers) it turned off by itself, I just took out a rubber seal behind the power button that was expanding with the heat, try it out, havnt had a problem since
Absolutely brilliant. My PS4 was like a Jet Engine but having followed your guide I cannot believe how quiet it is - even when running HDR games. Thanks OP!
I was so surprised at how quiet my ps4 was after I cleaned it. Thanks for this man Also, I'm gonna have to clean my ps3 soon, and I'm scared to do it because I haven't cleaned it in like 10 years
Thanks for the guide! Me and my dad had a lot of fun while we are cleaning the ps4 we werent talking for a while and we had a loud ps4 so thank you again for the great time!
When cleaning the fan remember to get the Q-tips way down between the fan blades and spin the fan to clean the inside of the housing. I thought I had removed most of the dust with the compressed air and fan blades. Then I proceeded to go through about 30+ more Q-tips with the insane amount of dust trapped in the inside perimeter of the fan housing.
Sony better keep their word when they said PS5 is going to be quieter. I’m getting tired of playing AC Odyssey (a Greek assassin’s game) while an airplane is taking off in the background. 😭
I just bought a used ps4… tan like a jet engine and the horror I saw when I opened the back… the entire fan was just COVERED in dust as well as the entire power supply. This was a much needed video. Thank you.
Super solid tutorial man! I always have this video on standby when I go to clean my ps4, only thing I'd add is along with the cable connecting the power supply be aware of the two metal prongs inside the console when you're putting it back in, sometimes they warp a bit so I usually need to straighten them out just the smallest amount so they don't bend when they plug back in

Ivy J I mean I get that, but like.. leather gloves aren’t very precise. Those are like winter gloves, I thought those latex exam gloves are pretty cheap
Bro thank you so much! I have had the same ps4 since first launch. It got so unbelievably loud! This really worked, now I honestly cannot hear anything!! (Unless muted and the room is quiet you can hear the gentle whirring noise) Best tip I would recommend is, just try to move the dust with a q tip to loosen the clunks, then use compressed air to blow it all out. Honestly I'm stoked by how quiet it's gotten
for some reason he has three screws that are removed from the bottom portion that reveal the fan. i have the two in the middle but the ones on the outside aren’t even ther e
adamdon no like there is only 2. i grabbed a knife and poked every single thing on the back to make sure. i was able to take it off with only the middle one off. there is no left and right screws
I just clean my ps4 with your video. Finally I can enjoy Red dead redemption 2 with and also without headset without having a military air base in my living room. Thank you and If I need more help I'll come back here
Everything other than Resident Evil Reboot - The Gamecube one - makes my PS4 wail like a banshee. I haven't finished cleaning yet, but I hope it sounds much better after, otherwise I'll be catching up on my PS3 backlog.
Thank you so much! My PS4 sounds like when it was new! Little tip I found: You can use pipe cleaners to clean out the vents that lead to the fan then hoover out. Worked a treat! The vents are not only the outer ones but the metal inner ones too
Don't use a vacuum cleaner on it again. I did that with my ps3 and fried the damn thing. I'm assuming from static electricity of the air being sucked through it. Now I was using a shark so it definitely sucks harder than a hoover but just be careful. Now it's 10 years later I still cry myself to sleep every night..
Thanks, your advice fixed it for me. My PS4 was freezing up, and i had to reboot it for it to work. Mine was full of dust. Instead of taking the power supply out, I stuck a leaf blower into the exhaust-and blew out the dust through the fan. Works great now.
If possible, use a vacuum with a hose and brush attachment to extract the dust, rather than blowing the dust further in and throughout the system. Using that much compressed air can cause more harm than good. Micro fibre cloths also work great for picking up dust. I hope this helps someone!
Thanks for the tip, I was wondering if anyone would pick up on that part. But does this method (vacuum attachment) create static that can harm the console?
Good video - thank you. About your air cans: it is better that you DON'T shake cans of dusting air. Also, it is better to keep the can level when you use it.
thank GOD you made that intro, otherwise I wouldn't have known what the subject matter of the video was other than the title that 100% of people read before they click on anything.

It's not hard at all, even if you have no experience with opening something up before, it's easy, quick, and free... unless you don't have compressed air or the right screwdrivers
You might not want to do that because it being in this state lowers it's lifetime so your ps4 could die before quarantine is lifted
It’s better to do it tbh, cause more dust and stuff builds up the earlier it dies

Now i play those games in silence and oh man is it satisfying.

Cheater Dewey what spray did u buy? And does it not overheat anymore?
Ezzz ツ you could buy any compressed air can and it will be alright👍🏽, and let your ps4 dry off from the compressed air , don’t use the air can too much or it will start shooting frost. Long story short take your time and you’ll be fine
Ezzz ツ I just went to a target by my house and bought the canned air in the electronic section. It’s label said it was designed for dusting electronic devices so that’s what I got. Wasn’t too expensive it was like 10$ for a double pack

Only be doing this because there ps4 turned off from the heat
Envy_ Francis honestly me
I had a frozen peas bag and a fan aimed at it on max. It still powered off due to heat..

Depends where you place it most people have it crammed somewhere or near somewhere air passes through so it builds up
same🤣🕺🏻
Sameeeeee but i think i am needing to clean it cause it sounds like an airplane
then why are you watching this video 🤣
no. your room is vacuumed and don't smoke likely
You could just use a vacuum although be very careful the last thing you'd want to do is break something
Do you actually have to remove the power or no because l would rather not if I don’t have to?
Great guide, man! My fan has been loud as heck for like a year, and I fixed it up in like 15 minutes with this video!

No one is going to question why this guy is wearing leather gloves to disassemble a PS4??
So oils on his hands don't get into the internal wiring. Any rubber glove would work as well.
Or the fact that he keeps saying cownsole
Hands have natural oils that aren't good for electronics -_- The same reason why your controller gets greasy over time.
Arnez Willis HAHAH
Ivy J I mean I get that, but like.. leather gloves aren’t very precise. Those are like winter gloves, I thought those latex exam gloves are pretty cheap
Followed this guide and my PS4 went from deafening to as close to silent as you can get. 👍🏻
Bro thank you so much! I have had the same ps4 since first launch. It got so unbelievably loud!
This really worked, now I honestly cannot hear anything!! (Unless muted and the room is quiet you can hear the gentle whirring noise)
Best tip I would recommend is, just try to move the dust with a q tip to loosen the clunks, then use compressed air to blow it all out.
Honestly I'm stoked by how quiet it's gotten

Little tip I found:
You can use pipe cleaners to clean out the vents that lead to the fan then hoover out. Worked a treat!
The vents are not only the outer ones but the metal inner ones too
Should I change the thermal paste?
Don't use a vacuum cleaner on it again. I did that with my ps3 and fried the damn thing. I'm assuming from static electricity of the air being sucked through it. Now I was using a shark so it definitely sucks harder than a hoover but just be careful. Now it's 10 years later I still cry myself to sleep every night..
@@PimpDaddyLongDog lol i used an electric leaf blower while holding the fan and mine was fine

Awesome advice! I will have to start doing that.
Shaking up the can increases the pressure in the can which is probably why its condensing into liquid.
Thanks for not talking about your day and how Billy had trouble and that inspired you to make this video. Straight to the point! Thumbs up!
This helped so much. I went from playing on a F22 fighter jet to playing on a prius car.
