    Henry, if you think that forest was messy you should see an Aussie eucalyptus forest, with messy scrub on the floor. That forest looked sublime compared to ours. At least you’ve cooled me down, 33degC today with high humidity. Superb country! Took me back to the time when living in Austria, and walks in the snow on days like this one. Loved your images, and thanks for sharing this walk with us😊

      100% agree! I think our bush is one of the most challenging subjects out there...I always think if you can find compositions in an Australian forest you can find one anywhere 😄 I'd love to see what these UK photographers would make of our bush, its a shame I've never seen any venture out here.

      @@LisaFrostPhoto I feel the same way with our Vancouver Island BC forest. Very messy and loads of underbrush. Very hard to find a clean image. The fact that he can walk between the trees is something I could never do over here haha makes me work hard to be creative though

    Hi Henry, a fantastic video, buddy! Awesome these old phone boxes, aren't they? Here in Austria we have also still some standing around, but they are more used as a kind of exchange spot for old books. It is just: yours in UK look so much better, ours here in Austria are quite boring and not worth being photographed from an artistry point of view, haha 😆
    And yes, I agree according to the shutter speed. It makes a big difference to the story of an image.
    Thank you for the video and enjoy your weekend,
    Christian

    Cool video, can't comment on shutter speed, we very rarely get it in Southampton,. Captured under moonlight in the new forest in November, as there was some in the new forest after the morning's snowfall disappeared. I think under moonlight, f5. 6 30secs 16pp, other than that I think I tried fast and slow shutter speeds in 2019, the last time we saw it. Great pics Henry. I would have been going nuts with my camera especially the tree shadows, lol. Great work once again

  • @nexansbeast
    @nexansbeast 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think shutter speed all depends on how fast the snow either falls or blows in the scene.

  • @canadianehbignorth7325
    @canadianehbignorth7325 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I spend half the year in winter. I don't particularly have a preferred shutter speed other then saying I always liked playing with motion. One of my favourites was a shot I took of my late dog, a Siberian husky, standing tall and proud on a crest, front long into a snowstorm. It has the same pencilled effect.
    That swing in the snowfall could have been a nice shot. Did you take any photos with it in a composition?

    Hi Henry, another pretty chilly grand day out thanks for sharing. When aiming for "snow trails", I think of it like astro and the shutter speed needs to be a function of focal length, but bizzarely the opposite way around, the shorter the focal length, the longer the time can be for a given length of snow trail .. so I guess what I'm coming around to is maybe there isn't just one shutter speed to use in snowy conditions, the idea is to experiment and see what examples you like

    Beautiful, beautiful! I hope to get a few snowfalls like that here in Illinois. For favorite shutter speed, it depends on the light and size of snowflakes. I probably range between 1/30 to 1/100. I also like to go out at night and shoot flash shots while the snow is falling. If the flakes are big enough, they cast shadows. Thanks for the lovely walk!

    Henery, great video took me back to my days when I lived in Scotland. Shutter speed and snow…. For me it depends on several factors including: Size of the flakes, intensity of the snow fall, and what effect I am striving for in the image. My opinion, stay flexible and let the scene/environment dictate the shot settings…. As always, keep snapping!

    I rarely (if ever) use Shutter priority for landscape photography but I do regularly use Manual mode with Auto ISO. This allows for full control of shutter speed and depth of field, as long as it's not too bright.

    Cheers for another interesting vlog Henry! I can't really answer your question though, snowy landscape photography in southeast England is quite a niche subject and I can't remember the last time I had actual snowfall whilst being out with my camera! Fun video, as usual, Henry. Regarding your question about "go to" shutter speed for snow, I have to say I don't really have one. Like anything else that's moving, there are so many variables: how fast is it moving, in what way is it moving, what's the lighting like, how big are the flakes, and most importantly, what is the effect I want for that specific shot? A light snowfall of great fluffy flakes in still air with no wind, where they're just floating down gently, is very different to small flakes blowing across in a stiff wind. So I end up doing exactly what you prescribe: take several experimental shots at various speeds, and see which speed produces what I had in mind. Sometimes it's 1/30" (or possibly even slower) but more often it's closer to the vicinity of around 1/100". I just try to get a good selection of possibilities, find a general shutter speed range for the conditions, and then sort them out when I get back to the computer. Thanks for putting out such consistently good content!

    • @HenryTurnerphoto
      @HenryTurnerphoto  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much! 😊 Totally agree-there’s no one-size-fits-all with shutter speed, especially in snow. Sounds like you’ve got a great approach to experimenting and adapting to the conditions. Love hearing your thought process, and I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. Cheers for the support! 🙌

We don't mind seeing where you've been, but more importantly: Constantly walking and twisting your body to the side and back to talk to us will absolutely cause hip and knee damage and may cause lower back pain as well.
