Hey, Taylor! I just played Mori for the first time recently, and while I loved the art and components, I had some difficulty wrapping my head around the gameplay. I felt like my standard trick-taking strategies weren’t working for this one. I want to really like this game, so I’m just wondering if you have any strategy tips or suggestions. Thanks!
Hey Dans, great question!! Mori is super subtle! It doesn't flow like a classic trick-taking game much.
I've found a few tips:
Winning is good.
A dice to trump in or an x to give out is always useful. Using a dice to help play and save you a card to hold back to and score is wonderful.
Be intentional with your Xs. They should be used to dodge tricks as often as they are to give people a back trick
Notice the meta of the table on when people will go all out for a trick. Is it when a 2 leaf card is played? A 1 leaf? Key off that to lose lead by playing enticing cards to not get skulls dumped on you
@@ClaudeAndTaylor interesting, thanks for the tips! Would you also say that leading off with a strong card is a bad idea? That might stick you with more skulls or a bunch of Xs I feel like
Something I am confused about is how do you count points during scoring regarding the tricks won?
Do the tricks even count?
Oh yes, you count all the points on the cards in your score pile. So the cards you win are more important that how many tricks you win.
do you know what other game consist of 32 card (4 suits @ number 1-8)?
