Great content as always! I feel like Gummi Trick actually does a better job of handling randomness than some traditional trick takers (even the face down cards allow you to use what information you have to mitigate a little bit), in the fact that the winner of each suit played gets points out of the trick. This way if someone happens to be loaded in one suit and can keep the lead and play it out, inherently other players won't have that suit and will score points for their losing cards. The one issue it doesn't address (as you point out), is where someone maybe has high cards of every suit just due to the luck of the deal. We house ruled that you pass 3 cards at the start of each hand, that way you have at least some small opportunity to offset those uneven deals. This definitely doesn't work as a single hand type of game, and like you I am not sure why they call playing multiple rounds the advanced variant, but certainly I would only recommend this if you are playing to some winning total score that would require multiple rounds.
Baby’s first trick taking game? 👀 my youngster has started saying stuff like, “your lead” and “play to the trick” ❤ looking forward to seeing how gummi trick lands. For now, potato man is our family trick taker of choice.
Our family loves Potato Man also, and this one landed equally well. They didn't catch the strategy as immediately as with Potato Man (where the scoring options are more visible due to the potato sacks), but they really appreciated the less punishing feel of getting to score often times even if they lost the trick. We house ruled passing 3 cards each hand to help offset the luck of the deal, and I definitely recommend playing at least 3 hands per game and totaling scores.
By passing 3 cards you mean drafting, or just taking them from your own hand? Anyway seems like there's many ways to mitigate the luck of the draw if you want! I'd probably stuff my set with low cards full of points in a variety of suits...
Interesting concept of a "follow priority" - I've never seen that before. Very cool even though it's light and random. I'm working on a solo trick-taker with standard cards that I think you may be interested in checking out - though you probably have a backlog of games on your list. It's Sandman themed, but fairly abstracted with standard cards. An overview and a playthrough are the 2 most recent videos on my channel if/when you want you have the interest. I also have a WIP on BGG and have heard some preliminary good feedback there.
Yeah it's a neat concept! A bit like texas showdown, but more restrictive. And I'll take a peek! I'm a bit inundated with games to try, but solo always helps! Good luck with it also!! 👏👏
Hi there! Big, big fan of your content. Do you, by any chance, happen to have plans of doing a list of your all-time favorite tricktakers at some point? :)
In a game with 2 players, what happens if the second player plays a card of another color?? who wins?? or case in a game with 3 players if the first two players played the same color and the third played a card of a different color who would take the third player's card??

Oh great question, i think it was highest number! Woah!
That ending 😆❤
A classic!!
That teach was a bit hard to follow without enamel pins and a tiny black table. My brain has a harder time visualizing the game. 🧠
Yes we've been spoiled.
Hahaa too true! I felt so wrong doing it that way!!
😂😂😂
Cheeers Naru-Maki!!
