I miss people singing together in choir like this. Back in the early eighties it was in everything, like TV commercials too. It just makes the world feel like a more comfy and cooperative place than the random auto-tune technological stuff we suffer now.
I can’t believe how many of these I actually heard on local TV stations in the many cities I lived in as a child. Frank Gari probably never set out to be a jingle man, but he sure has a hell of a body of work. The arrangements in some of these cuts are simply outstanding too. Thanks for sharing this, Cyle. Greetings from Chicago, where Seven’s still On Your Side.
Cyle, you hit the jackpot. I love hearing old news music and this montage of themes sound great. I look forward to you sharing more news music demos and much more.
If there's time/space for it, Be sure to ask him about the so-called "In Touch/Experience Channel 2" package and whether or not it was actually used on a TV station in St. Louis (or Anywhere else, for that matter.)
It's important to preserve precious moments like this. I was born in the 90s, so I missed this stuff the first time around. I archive cassettes and vinyl too. Subscribing!
4:02 - Been looking for this cut of "We'll Take You There" for a while... Found a couple of promos from KAKE in the mid 80's ages ago that used it, seemingly disconnected from their news package (The News Image / Tuesday Productions) and their general imaging (Come Home to KAKE / Unknown). An odd time in the market as KWCH had then recently become (and still remains) the dominant station, in no small part due to "The Look of a Leader" from Peters Productions. It sent KAKE scrambling to stabilize and triggering KSNW to switch between multiple branding/imaging packages almost each year until about 1987/88.
Not that I believe you're putting one above another, but there's a certain emotional (more cynical types would call it "marketing") swing that full imaging packages from Gari have versus KPM which is focused strictly on production music that is meant to stand on its own with incidental themes that could be built when you have a strand of themes bought up. They both hit, just a little different. To my knowledge, KPM never did full-on image packages... did they?
Frances Warner was the heart of these jingles. I love the emotion in her voice and especially love the “hello” Gari Productions series. I recall a video I saw several years ago where she appeared on camera for some major anniversary of a TV station performing the station’s theme. Unfortunately I can’t remember the complete lyrics but it included the words “xxx was there” (like if the channel was five, the words would be …”five was there” ) or something similar. The TV station did a segment to introduce Frances and showed her on camera. Could someone help me find the clip?
I know that this wasn’t part of the audio montage, but Somehow, I have a hunch that News Series 2000, might’ve been used to accompany ABC’s 1983-84 “That Special Feeling” campaign.
10:24 & 11:31...for missouri (St. Louis affiliate now O&O...)& 17:12 was used for KYW(now CBS News Philadelphia) 3 Eyewitness News from 1985-89 & WMC(NBC 5 Memphis) Action News 5 from 1990-92.
So I hear the following in the following order... The One for All: WESH and WJW We'll Take You There: WJXT NewsChannel: WSB An unknown package with KTVI. Turn To News: KCRG Good News: WAGA and WIS?!?! Holy crap. WIS never used that... or that slogan "Carolina's NewsChannel." So Good To Turn To: WJLA and WGAL (7's) On Your Side: WLS
WIS did use use that slogan and song, this was when they were in the third year with their "10" in the Nougat Font in '86. Yep. Right around the time NBC switched to the current Peacock.
@@DerrickLee2023DLASpeaking of “In Touch”, the now-defunct 80’s Supersite had a ballad version of it for a channel three from an unknown location, which 25-ish years later, Still remains unknown.

Don’t forget the live orchestra, although it became obsolete today when replaced with synthesizers and sample libraries.

Sevens On Your Side…one of Garis bangers!
5:42 - Hearing the closing theme of "We'll Take You There" seriously brought tears to my eyes.

Yes more, its your destiny! ;)
I’ll be interviewing Frank Gari in the coming weeks for a long form story. Can’t wait to share!

Great stuff! I love the We'll Take You There image. Thank you for sharing!
I remember hearing 8:26 and 9:18 on WHAS 11 Louisville, Kentucky when I was a kid. Haven't heard that in YEARS.
I came here for the _Turn To News_ image campaign for KCRG-TV. Thank you so much for uploading this, dude! :D

This is fantastic, Cyle. Your videos are fun to check out. The Frank Gari news themes are among the best ones ever heard on TV.
This is amazing, Cyle. Thank you so much for sharing these cuts.
Can you find some Telesound jingles next Cyle?!
KPM eat your heart out, those KY and KZ local stations could bring the funky heat just as effortlessly as Keith Mansfield.

I Want the NewsCenter II Music from Michael Randall
It Was Used on WISH-TV Channel 8 in Indianapolis, and KGW-TV Channel 8 in Portland, Oregon
I found the music licensing for it here. We licensed it from late 84-85. I’m not sure where we used it but I have been on the hunt for it!
The vaporwave writes itself
I love the we'll take you there song

An unknown package with KYW in Philadelphia an NBC Affiliate in 1983.
That was before they used "Turn To News" in '86!!!!
You mean with the campaign "believe in yourself"? And which theme are you talking about?
Production Music:Newscenter by Network Music in 1986.
Actually, they began to use "Turn to News" in the fall of '85.@@videonut1988
