“It’s not a character flaw - it’s just part of human biology.” Let’s teach our children this from the first moments they begin to notice physical differences in people…and especially in themselves. Kindness towards all - including yourself. I think I’m preaching to the choir, though!🥰 Thanks for words of wisdom, Dr. Dray! ☮️💜

I’ve gone to several dermatologists and even a plastic surgeon about the chicken skin under my eyes that I’ve had for the last 20 years. I was told by everyone with whom I consulted that it’s genetic and that’s there’s nothing that can be done. I don’t go in the sun and my dermatologist said that I do not have a lot of sun damage to my skin. I use retinol serum. I have done RFP microneedling. nothing I have tried has worked. I absolutely hate it. ☹️

The Derma B every day sunblock 50+ has been my go-to for the last several months. Works great, affordable, never stings (and I have sensitive eyes, esp in springtime!). I also love the laroche posay sunscreen melt in milk. It’s more expensive than the derma b, but it’s easier to find in-store at CVS, etc.

Dr. Dray, when I apply my tretinoin on the face I bring a little bit just around the eyes, not too close and not too much, and the skin seems to be just fine. I read that tretinoin spreads quite a lot from the spot of applications, so I am hoping this way to get the benefits of tretinoin around the eyes. Do you think it is enough? I am debating myself to get a eye retinol cream or not, because I don't want to overdo it, in case the tretinoin the way I apply is being effective, but I also do not want to miss out in case this is not enough. Ahhhhhh. :P Sorry for the long post!

    • @merimebardhi5129

In my opinion if your under eyes can’t handle it then it will thin the skin even more. Skin Medik 8 has an eye serum now. I heard it is wonderful with same benefits of retin a but without the horrible side affects. I personally would be terrified to put retin A on my under eyes.

Yes it does! I loved it and it is a great start for using retinol. I recommend using it every 2 or 3 days so you can get used to it, but after one week I think you are gonna be able to use it every day, because it is actually very hydrating. I recently started using a stronger retinol (the Beauty of Joseon has retinAl in it so it is a little bit weaker than a retinal,) and I am able to use it every day, because now I am used to this ingredient :D If you already started to use this product I am really curious whether you have seen any results

There are a few videos by Ophthalmologist that say they feel using retinol products around the eyes can cause disease. Should we be concerned? One even instructs to keep retinol away from the area above the eyebrows, between the eyes , the temples and the zygomatic bone. Well that would just leave the mid cheek and chin. Even there we aren't supose to get it near the lips. If that were true then it would hardly be worth it just to use on the mid cheek area. Since there are several retinol products for the eye area I would assume that they have been tested to be safe long term.

I am of the opinion that if we feel good about the way we look, we can have more self confidence. I myself have had issues with my self esteem most of my life, and have found it to be extremely detrimental to my mental health. In saying this, the point I would like to make is that it is unfortunate that cosmetic procedures are so high priced for the average consumer. If there is something that can make someone feel better, it just makes sense to me to have it available to all. I know it won't happen in my lifetime, however, I hope someday. ( I completely understand that doctors and estheticians have training to be able to perform procedures competently, and therefore deserve competitive wages. But health insurance companies are rolling in the money, and quite frankly.. maybe if they covered some procedures than they wouldn't have to cover as much for mental health issues that may arise from a poor self esteem)

I find that mineral sunscreens don't sting when I initially put them on, but when they dry out after a day of use they get very itchy and irritating. When it comes to sunscreens in the US and eye irritation, it feels like a choice between burning and stinging upfront (chemical sunscreens) or itching and irritation later (mineral sunscreens). The least problematic sunscreen I've tried around the eyes is a chemical sunscreen by SCINIC from Korea (mild sun essence).
