- Enjoy a visual cum musical treat of the Chugging Diesel Locomotives also known as ALCo's which was imported from the American Locomotive Company, the widely used Diesel Locomotive in the Indian Railway network. The chugging sound produced by these beats are a priceless music to the ears of a Train lover. The video is a compilation of some of the beautifully chugging ALCos.
The ALCO DL560C is a passenger cum freight-hauling diesel-electric locomotive with AC electric transmission designed by the American Locomotive Company and produced under license by Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) of Varanasi, India for Indian Railways as their classes WDM-2, WDM-3A/2C, WDM-3D and WDG-3A for operation in India.
The locomotive is fitted with a 16-cylinder ALCO 251 B,C diesel engine. In the early 1960s Indian Railways needed a reliable diesel workhorse to gradually replace its steam locomotive fleet. Equal numbers (40 each) of ALCO's DL560C and EMD's SD24 were chosen for trials. More locomotives of each of these were purchased for more trials.
Indian Railways was keen on producing these locomotives in the country rather than depending on imports. EMD did not agree for a Transfer-of-Technology, while ALCO did. Thus ALCO DL560C was chosen for the job due to its easy maintenance, reliability and simple operation. And from then on vast numbers of this loco in different configurations have been produced and they still continue to dominate the diesel route of Indian Railways.

Trains are the splendid sights. No matter what work or class or a sight seeing the trains are attract us.the train horn will attract attention. It great ful to see beautiful ALCO chugging made our childhood great. It's sad to these loco disappear few years
Honestly i think ALCO Loco is the face of Indian railway...they should have stuck to this design with ofcourse all the necessary upgrades required..
We have, Alco, MLW(Montreal Locomotive Works, and ILCO Indian Locomotive Company. All three are part of the same Alco family. Hats off to India for utilizing the 251 powered engines perhaps better than any country and being part of the ultimate Alco team!!Much respect from America!! Canada, USA, India =team ALCO!! There is no ILCO, these are produced at BLW (Banaras Locomotive Works) in India under license from ALCo.
I'm making a cardboard model of an ALCO DL560C, classified as WDM2 (standing for Wide gauge, Diesel powered, Mixed traffic, model no. 2) in Indian Railways.

Magnificent machines! Sad most will disappear in a few years! Withdrawn from service as electrification is in full swing and newer EMD/GE diesel locomotives have entered.

Many thanks for this video! The audio is good enough to give me a solid idea of what the Alco Sound is all about. Funny how a 16-cylinder prime mover can sound so much like a 2-cylinder John Deere tractor! hahaha! (A lot of train vids have audio that is too focused on wheel-screech, and bells, and turbo whistles -- all high end and no bass frequencies. This video does not have that problem at all.)

4:15 Its a Chair Car coach with sliding glasses mostly found in Janshatabdi Express Trains.
7:15 Looks like its a Temporary extra coach in case of a heavy demand.
9:35 Right the first passenger train for the day for students, workers and daily travelers.
21:39 WDP3A (Previously WDP2) uses the same mechanism of WDM2 , its just a dual cab .

19:30 is my favorite. We can hear the six axels of each loco going over the rail gap in the joint. dug-dug-dug, dug-dug-dug. Dotn get that in many videos since the sound is drowned out.
