its all about being realistic and not in an illusion...confidence is a must ...while overconfidence puts us in an illusion ..which leads to misery or negative feelings and emotions..being truly positive means to be realistic and enhance our competence..and one only progress when one is in a happy or positive state of mind..rather than scared or negative state of mind.
Man, what a well researched, well presented talk that I hated hearing! Haha I want to live in a positive self-image and hope others see my accomplishments and praise them. But the harsh reality is, nobody cares about my career as much as I care about it. This was a good reminder that my confidence can become my downfall; it will just blind me to serving others better. Thanks for this video!
The objective of this TED talk is to highlight the power of negative thinking. Here, the speaker represents himself, saying that he grew up in Argentina, which means he has always had a problem with confidence. He had always been interested in the relationship between confidence. The surprising fact is that there is a fragile relationship between competence and confidence, so overconfidence is one of the most pervasive biases in human thought. There are two advantages of being overconfident. Number one: it does feel good to think you're great; number two, that delusion can help you fool other people, yet there is a dark side of overconfidence. Overconfidence fosters and promotes a narcissistic culture, a narcissistic society where we commonly mistake confidence for competence. According to the speaker, the positive power of negative thinking is that there are critical adaptational benefits to your insecurities and low confidence. And finally, low confidence and insecurities are key to keep us modest. This speech is too weak to highlight the importance of negative thinking. Negative thinking can darken your perspective, heighten stress levels, reduce your motivation, disturb your problem-solving skills, strain relationships, and harm your overall happiness and mental health.
A realistic perception is grounded in non-judgmental objectivity. Wondering whether to be positive or negative is simplistic, and choosing to see things through only one of these filters puts blind spots on our perception. It's all about balance.
Very good thoughts on the subject. I was looking for TED Talks on positive thinking when I came across this one. I still believe this applies and have shared it on my blog to perhaps bring people here and encouraged people to comment and provided links to your Amazon page and Hogan Assessments. Positivity and working on improving ones self has been a large part of my blog and I enjoyed this unique look at the subject. Also you chose a great length of the talk to share. Very smart knowing the attention span and time a lot of people give to viewing such matters.
Nope they can have negative thinking but they accept it. Noone can throw away negativity as there r no positive or negatve thoughts, there r only thoughs.
Well, I am sure that these "great people" had some other character traits, like determination, enthusiasm and even talents that helped them to become great. You can be positive but remain stupid for the rest of your life... positivism alone is not going to make you "great". Being realistic though (even if you are not very bright...), can make you happy.
But he knows the fundamental difference between confidence and competence . And this is a good thing , because overconfidence has been the weak spot of the comunist for over 100 years party . So his low confidence might be protecting him from recklessness .

Refreshing angle on a hot topic. Most of us don't recognise that over-confidence can be a real issue

It's clearly a taboo this days!😄😄 thank you for talking about it
Everything is awesome, including this
being a negative thinker might also leave us astray..and stuck...all the great people of the world are positive

You are confusing negative thinking with toxic thinking...

He mentions a 50/50 concept which is good. It's good to have some negative thinking as well.
Negative thinking is never a virtue
The only country in the world the black people are no longer in existence so sad Argentina .anyway u make a point
If I looked like Tomas or were Argentinian then I'd be confident too. 😍💕💖💘
