Opie's job was to introduce the talent and stay out of the way, but he thought his job was to scuttle every bit he couldn't contribute to. He was not happy to sit there and get rich he wanted it to be about him, and he was always the least interesting and more importantly least funny in the room. Hell 95% of the time if an intern, any intern walked into the room Opie dropped a rung on the funny depth chart.
Listening back to this, you realize how much Patrice and his generation of comics, like Burr, Louis, etc carried the show...and after he died and they moved on to bigger things, well where's O,A,&J now? Opie was fired and has bounced around nowhere, Anthony does an awful green screen, cable access-esque podcast, and Jim is with Sam on some awful show nobody listens to.

If you watch Bill on Conan right after Patrice’s death, he had a REALLY hard time with it. You can tell right then that he has regret that they left off on rocky terms. You can tell deep down he genuinely loved Patrice. He regretted the pride he had.

I’ve listened to over a hundred episodes on Patrice on O and A. I think bill did do what he though Patrice would do, and Patrice would have but because he is bills friend he would have stuck up for him after. I fault nobody. Patrice was super brutal to his friends but in a moment like this he felt he would have softened the blow and felt bill left him hanging. I love them both and this was a small hiccup in their friendship
Love these two comedians. Hearing them argue like brothers who love each other but are pissed off with other chokes me up a bit. Bill valued Patrice's as friend, a fellow comedian, brother. And Patrice is being himself loud, blustery, and overly sensitive. (But i think most comedians are sensitive.) The Tough Crowd crew were real comedians who seemed to have a loyalty, respect and comradery that was unique amongst Comedians in contrast to other parts within the entertainment industry. These guys 'Tough Crowd" guys made each other better comedians.
Yeah...a LOT of comedians have died...and it's always sad. Bill Burr, far as I know, only does one fundraiser every year. And he pretty regularly describes Patrice as his favorite. So that tells me what I need to know. That's what got me into Patrice, that's what got me to watch Patrice on Fox News and DESTROY that bitch and appreciate him. I know Burr is still upset about this(which is why I actually came back to listen to this again).

Even if the fans act funny let them hear me now, I’m sorry!” Like that was a big give in Bills direction. And Bill still extra defensive LOL. THEY both sensitive. PS Patrice totally didn’t “blow off” Bill in greeting, and in fact, Bill was more “flippant” sounding when he said yeah he knows Patrice.
Classic case of two people talking straight past each other. Patrice's real problem was after he was all pissed off after the show, Bill called him making fun. But Patrice was so caught up in the anger about the show he didn't really get to that point which was really his issue. If you watch Bill on Conan right after Patrice’s death, he had a REALLY hard time with it. You can tell right then that he has regret that they left off on rocky terms. You can tell deep down he genuinely loved Patrice. He regretted the pride he had.
Especially because Bill knew he was the one in the wrong. Patrice didn't throw Bill under the bus and then came on air accusing Patrice of being a bad friend and throwing him under the bus because of some shit o&a fans said. Which to Patrice is worse than anything because even though the tough crowd guys would get hurt sometimes they always talked it out. It also probably didn't help that bill was doing media and kissing ass. Now that I think about it Bill started shitting on interviewers for media a bit after this debacle.

Love these two comedians. Hearing them argue like brothers who love each other but are pissed off with other chokes me up a bit. Bill valued Patrice's as friend, a fellow comedian, brother. And Patrice is being himself loud, blustery, and overly sensitive. (But i think most comedians are sensitive.) The Tough Crowd crew were real comedians who seemed to have a loyalty, respect and comradery that was unique amongst Comedians in contrast to other parts within the entertainment industry. These guys 'Tough Crowd" guys made each other better comedians.
Yeah...a LOT of comedians have died...and it's always sad. Bill Burr, far as I know, only does one fundraiser every year.
