    Hello!
    I am a black American Norse Pagan, still new and still finding my way.
    I discovered your channel earlier today and have already listened to three or four videos.
    I just want to say
    THANK YOU.😊

    Ive been trying to get into norse paganism for a while now but just have been preoccupied with school and other issues but I did my best to include small things like trying to feel for energies while walking to places/through the forest or just sitting with my beliefs. It has helper me a lot to internalize my beliefs even if I dont have the capacity to get into the practice at the moment and I remember making a small jewelry offering a while ago and it just made me feel so happy and connected to my beliefs. I'm very glad to have a video like this to give me some starting points to incorporate more practices into my life

    As a queer, nonbinary soul who has been drawn to this type of belief ( but never fully understood until just recently) I am so broken hearted to know that it has such a terrible reputation. In my life in general I have made great strides to be more loud about everything. I appear as fem presenting and I am married to someone who is a cis male, so hiding in plain sight would be easy for me to do. But through encouragement from all that is moving me through this life I have gone to great lengths to make sure I am not in hiding. If someone dislikes or hates me on sight, I wear it as a badge of honor.
    I am so grateful to have come across your channel in my searching. I am early on in this particular part of my journey and while it feels a bit overwhelming your videos have made an impact on me and I thank you for that. I will grow to be even louder as time goes on!!

    Yeah I feel like your mention at 10:40 of Norse Paganism reminds me of cunning people. Like everyone’s practice was their own, because it basically was the way of using their individual environment. That’s a great point thank you!

    I'm by no means a beginner, having practiced some form of Norse paganism for over a decade now, and this video is right on point!! I wish I had something like this when I was starting out, so thank you for providing this resource to newcomers! Esp re:not trying to find the rules. I'm a perfectionist so starting out I was always trying to find a set of instructions or just doing what others did. Do not be afraid of trial and error! See what works in your practice and what doesn't. It is just that-a practice. And concerning the disgusting nazis, yes please be louder!! Reclaim our beliefs from them! Make sure you research and do not buy books or materials from those people! There are a lot of them, but you can find lists online of who to avoid in the space.

    the same thing happens in America with indigenous religious practice, non native folks try to put all native culture into one monolithic religion. Like everyone wants to use smudging bundles from the white sage that grows in California. Guess what indians from the east coast didn't use that as their sage, they used the local artemesia species. what one tribe used as tobacco (smoking mix) may not have been what another tribe used - different plants were used in smoking mixes.

      That happens with a lot of practices. I see it a LOT with German folk magic practices, too. The different areas of Germany are very different from each other, as is their folk magic, yet people throw all of them into the same pot. Sad 🥲

    3:57 Yes! Once I made a poppet of Odin and posted in a community group, I had a lot of positive feedback but there were quite a few people who say “you shouldn’t make poppets of the gods” or “don’t make voodoo poppets of gods.” When it wasn’t even a voodoo poppet nor I practice voodoo as a white person. they also said he didn’t sacrifice his right eye, when it was never specify what eye was sacrifice and there are depictions of Odin with just his left eye. That I shouldn’t belong in the group because I posted it not realizing poppets especially straw poppets were a common Scandinavian tradition. Plus I included Odin’s wings on his head it looked like horns but it wasn’t and some people said it was the devil 😐. I don’t know if some pagan groups didn’t really deconstructed a lot of Christian ideals or they just don’t like magic. Surprisingly there is pagans who don’t like magic or witchcraft.

    10:20 let's remember not even abrahamic religions are that monolithic! for example, christianity has at least 20 denominations, and worship vastly changes depending on the region, the translation of the holy text, even syncretization! this is just how belief systems work because people are different just as their environments and cultures are different.
    great video as always!

    • @TheNorseWitch
      @TheNorseWitch  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      For sure!! And the different types of Christianity or Islam (I don’t know about Judaism) can be so DRASTICALLY different! I think if anything I would always only see one specific branch of Christianity as a monolith, not overall Christianity…

    20:33 yes!!! 🙌 ❤❤🎉 these morons who use this to make their points are conveniently ignoring the fact that these people were trading all over Europe and even onto the silk roads and into a lot of Muslim countries, there were accounts of black Vikings as the people they traded with also came to them and then became a part of their villages etc, it wasn’t a load of just white skinned people who just refused to integrate with any other people, they were cultural magpies who took and traded the things they liked with others and weren’t afraid to marry into those cultures too, and unfortunately took slaves from those places too but again we now know better, but these people are seriously just cherry picking mostly nazi twisted drivel as the nazis mostly got it all wrong too and were twisting it to fit what they wanted and they just take the demented parts of their take on the Vikings and stuff and making it what they want, it’s so ridiculous that in almost 2025 now this is still a thing 🤦‍♀️💔 I’m sure the Gods would rather have good hearted people who are loyal and want to help and are still keeping their names alive so long after they might have easily died out than some disgusting bigots or racists etc who have hate in their hearts and just conveniently invoke the names of the Gods to explain their own beliefs and unfortunately their actions sometimes too but 🤷‍♀️❤️
