    Old dogs learning new tricks and other informative stuff! What a great video!! The comments are probably full of people saying what a nerd this guy is but I think he does fantastic work! We are going to be blown away by these seat covers, can’t wait to see them!

    I've got a model 5 QB kit on order and even though your videos are fantastic, they make my wait that much harder lol.

      Just got mine on order as well, I think? Sent the check for the invoice - waiting for some kind of number. But 18 months est for delivery D:

      I'm hoping they don't ramp things up too quickly. I'd rather wait longer than discover any QC issues from them trying to speed things up too much

    Hi Colby, Amanda. Looking good. I used to do upholstery back in the '70's. You're opening the memory box here. Might even do it like you are on mine

      Thanks Brian! We’re certainly developing a new appreciation for upholstery work. The covers are going to be a little crude. It’s certainly a skill that would take quite a bit of practice to do well.

    That spring stretcher is ingenious. Do you keep it next to your board stretcher? My old foreman was always telling me to look for that when someone made a short cut, but I could never seem to find it.

    Love the videos. Thanks. Would like to know though how much detail is in the plans for building vs. trying to figure it out on your own.

    • @ColbyOsborn
      @ColbyOsborn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Robert! The actual plans themselves, in my opinion, do not have a lot of detail. There is a builders manual that does contain a lot more detail, yet does leave quite a bit up to the builder. But the support from other builders on the Bearhawk forum and the support from Bearhawk Aircraft owner Mark Goldberg, is excellent. So far I’ve found I never really need to figure anything out on my own. Anytime I’ve wanted more detail on a specific matter or had questions, someone has graciously helped.

    Do you have a library of books you collected prior to this build? I am still several years from having time to commit to a build but just curious what reference materials you are using. Awesome work so far definitely enjoying your videos.

      Thanks, Nathan!
      Before we got our kit I read the blue and yellow Tony Bingelis books. I'm sure his others are good to, but I haven't read them yet. I also read Powering Your Plane by David Prizio and will probably reread a lot of it before I start on my firewall forward. I also found the relevant Hints for Homebuilders videos available to EAA members to be well worth the time. Familiarizing yourself with the different construction practices, product options, aviation jargon, etc. will definitely save you time once you start building! Cheers

    Great video! Just curious what firmness did you use for the bolsters?

    • @ColbyOsborn
      @ColbyOsborn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I used soft for the bolsters, but I don’t recall making that choice for any reason other than that’s the same firmness as the top layer. I initially planned to have bolsters on the back rest as well, but a 05-2010 Kitplanes article made me reconsider.

      @@ColbyOsborn I think I’m leaning towards Oratex, not as pretty as paint, but less work, more durable

      I haven't purchased an engine yet. But the designer recommends a Lycoming between 240 and 315 hp.
