I’ve been an auto trimmer (upholsterer) for over 40 years and never had to strip this particular type seat down to the frame . Back in the early days all we had to do is inert or replace the covers because the foam rubber was usually in very good or at least fair condition. I’m having to reupholster a pair of them and wanted to make sure cutting the foam off the springs was the right thing because I’m replacing the foam. Thanks for posting this! It was a big help.
As a professional, do you have any opinions on using foam vs more classic and natural materials for car bucket and bench seats? Is it even realistically possible to convert a seat like this to using a non foam seat without building the seat entirely from scratch?
It was my full intention to follow through with the cover installation but it turned out they were very poor quality and fit. I considered trashing the foam video but it seemed relevant enough without the covers.
My customer provided the foam which I felt was very good quality. Off hand, I don't know where it was purchased. I think the company was LMC, or something like that.

Removing the old foam does not look like a very pleasant job. The new fold looks great even with the cover.

I'm sure converting to natural materials stitched into shape would work but I can't see the need to do so.
