I started in 2012. There were 5 of us. My boss, his daughter, me, and two other employees. Boss gave each of us a 60 card kitchen table deck of the color of our choice in penny sleeves and a deck box with our names on it. I got black cause all the other colors got chosen lol. To this day it’s been my most played color. Thanks boss for the lifelong hobby and new friends I made along the way.
Oddly enough I was in rehab and one of the guys had two commander pre cons and I used to play yugioh so I asked him to show me the ropes and we played every single day and the rest is history

Cats and Vampires, that's why they say don't shuffle, and why the lands are mixed up inside. Realistically for a new to magic person, there's incredible value for $30.

I saw the universe beyond set booster box of LOTR and i couldn't help myself because I'm such a fan of the trilogy. Had some great pulls including one Nazgul, Sauron the dark lord (foil), an Orcish Bowmaster and other mythics. That began my addiction with these cards. Now I'm starting to get into standard and EDH. currently waiting for my Duskmourn and Foundations bundles. And of course you had a huge influence because your videos are awesome with satisfying pack ripping, charismatic sense of humor, and booming pulls. Thank you Joey!!!
Ughh... finally! It took them a very long time to build something that breaks the game down for new players without falling into the "let me talk to you with complex technical terms you won't understand" trap. I appreciate the efforts before, but this? This is fantastic. Starter decks that can be mixed and matched, freedom of choice and expression, cards that do some interesting things when you combine them, and some really fundamental classics that have always been pretty good at showing people what a color is about. Someone new can buy this and have fun for a long time. I love this.

My first deck was Urzas Legacy with the Phyrexian precon. I really enjoyed Urza's block. My brother in law got me started, and he moved away and i sold all my cards on ebay for something stupid like $38. I know for a fact i had Gaea's Cradle, Serras Sanctum, and so much more...
started at Return to Ravnica ... started with the original starter pack with nicol bolas on the cover ... after that, actually picked a starting deck...it was a golgari/izzet duel deck .. still my fav's, ended up getting all the starters, got out of the game when my friends dropped it.. . just got back into it a month ago after my cousin asked about it... i now can't stop buying commander decks lool
The first good deck I made was Necropotence. 😂 I got the idea from Inquest magazine. Had to do something crazy to go against all those counterspells! Unexpected car trouble is really throwing a monkey wrench in my plans but I’m still hoping to get a play booster box and split the packs with my son and build decks
I remember the freaking Mirage booklet we used to learn how to play. My friends and I all spoke French trying yo understand the booklet written in English. That did not go well! But man did we have fun!
Ah yes the old starter deck mini encyclopedia rules.... I actually read through it in about after the 3rd or 4th time I got the game down pretty good and I got to admit it really explained in detail a lot more of the game

Would love to have seen two or three booster packs mixed in with this set to turn a meh product into a great one. Giving beginners the excitement of cracking something cool for their new decks would be an awesome hook.
definitely would be nice for it to throw in 2 jumpstart boosters in this. that way the new players can play around with the ones in the box a bit then each open a sealed jumpstart booster to add to the preset pool and gateway them into getting more jumpstart. the nameing alone makes it fairly clear, and the inserts do mention the other products but it could have been made much more obvious with sealed packs included.
😂😂😂 Back in the day we called these Deckbuilder's Toolkit's. They were super cheap and just reprints. Great for people starting, but I can't believe how many new people think these are something special. Those little books were the worst 🤣😂🤣

I got into magic maybe a month before modern horizons 3. My friends finally won after 20 years of begging. They told me to start with legacy so I started with a yorion 80 card death and taxes. Needless to say, but that is not a great way to get into magic. 😂

I also started at Ice Age, thought you bought a deck shuffled and played a it was. Made for bad games of not casting anything till turn 6 or 7.
It's understandable this is a starter product and they've not included busted cards like Evolving Wilds!..
