Guardian Heroes. I would have never heard of it if it wasnt for the game store by my house having it featured in their Saturn kiosk. After playing it, I was obsessed and saved money from chores for months when I was 12 and was proud to buy it with money I earned. To this day, it is the best of its genre. I still have my original CD, even though that giant jewel case fell apart into pieces long ago.
For sure! That's a problem I kept running into when making this video. I kept having to specify "Treasure Video Games" and "Treasure Co." in searches, and even that will lead you astray. It sounded good at the time and I doubt anybody was thinking about search engine optimization in 1993.
I gotta go with Gunstar Super Heroes on GBA as my number one Treasure pick. I still can't believe what it managed to pull off on GBA hardware. That said, Astro Boy, Guardian Heroes and both Sin and Punishment games are on my "to play" list in the near future, so we'll see how it shakes out!
Man, I absolutely LOOOOOVEEEE Treasure. I wish they would still make games! Anyways, my fav would either be Gunstar Heroes or Guardian Heroes (I know, ironic that they have the same abbreviations and "Heroes" in the titles).
Guardian heroes was AMAZING! Not only was it a deep beat em up where each character had complex move sets like a Street Fighter character but multiple paths and endings for replay value and unlocking characters for the arena where you and up to FIVE friends could have a battle royal using ANY unit in the game! Not to mention Goldie your npc Skeleton Paladin that beats the ever living shit out of everything and even goes thermonuclear and nukes the whole screen!
If you like Treasure you owe it to yourself to play Sin & Punishment: Star Successor for the Wii!!! The game is Amazing! Best played with the wii remote and nunchuck. Has co-op!
Oh yes, that's a really good one. I have played most of the Treasure games that did not come to the U.S. Keep in mind that this countdown is not my opinion, but rather the reviews published in Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine.
My favorite is Gunstar Heroes. My second favorite is Alien Soldier. Unofficial "Treasure" game I love is also Contra Hard Corps and CastleVania Bloodlines, which had people on it that went on to work at Treasure.
The winner here was somewhat predictable, but deserved. Mischief Makers is my personal favorite, but I can agree it doesn't surpass these. I'm just glad it ranked so highly.
QOTD: hands-down it's gotta be Gunstar Heroes on the Genesis, easily my favorite game of all time on the system! (I'd just picked up a Genesis for the wife and I so that's definitely high on the list of games I'm looking to find for it!!) likely a close second is Saturn's Guardian Heroes, maybe my favorite game for THAT system!
Wario World made me rage. lol That and Billy Hatcher were misleading; looked "cute", but were annoyingly difficult. That said, Wario World would be my favorite Treasure game. 💎
I had no idea that Treasure had anything to do with Wario World. The game is uncharacteristically easy for something that Treasure had a hand in. I liked it for what it was, but I was just going through the motions to beat it because it's so ridiculously easy.
Mischief Makers was a formative experience when I played it as a kid. It really was just... non-stop creative weirdness with almost every stage doing SOMETHING different with bosses that were all their own challenge. The songs were awesome, the bosses were awesome, the controls... took some getting used to but eh, they were charming and worked well enough for me back then. I forgive them their sins. Funny that the only shmup of their I've played is Sin and Punishment Star Successor- which is also cool, just not Mischief Makers cool. Also one of these days I have to replay Stretch Panic because it's been years since I picked it out of the bargain bin, and I barely remember what ot was like to play. All I can say is I don't remember disliking it as much as so manh other reviewers do... it WAS real short though.
Treasure is such a odd Company they remind me of Cave ltd in that as far as i know they still exist but I have no idea on what capacity as every now and then there would be a port
From what I understand there's only 2 employees and it only exists at this point for licensing out the IP's for re-releases, like the recently re-released Radiant Silvergun.
Well glad my favorite treasure game made number one. Yep, stretch panic was a surprising turd of a game. Shame the handful of games they didn't get to review because they didn't come out stateside. No mention of the enemies in light crusader sounding like farts when they die. QOTD, gunstar heroes by far. It's my favorite genesis game. Still fire up the 3D version on my 3DS every now and then.
Yea it’s my jealousy that prevents me from enjoying that garbage weapon system. I can understand why people love it but that doesn’t mean you’re right and I’m wrong. I dislike how messy the game is, anyone who thinks it’s a 10/10 needs to play more games. Like Adv. of Batman & Robin, gunstar super heroes or treasure’s genuinely great games: Bangaio-o, radiant silver gun, Astro boy, sin and punishment.
"(Headdy is) a treasure on the right track. Let's see some more!" But this was never meant to be. Sad because the Genesis game kinda sequel-baited too. Apparently a sequel was planned but never really got off the planning stages.
Although they did eventually make sequels and follow-ups, Treasure largely avoided that trap in the early days. They could have easily made a couple of speedy sequels for Gunstar Heroes, but they seemed more interested in trying new and original things. That even involved jumping between wildly different genres, as well as working on established brands (Gradius, Wario, etc.). A lot of that is what made Treasure so exciting in the 1990s.
I can't say that I've played any of these, so guess there is my answer right there. However, that one game you're going around grabbing bewbs, make it less clothing and I can see that being an F95 Zone game. 😉😂🤣
I love Treasure, but I think Gunstar Heroes is their most overrated game. It’s phenomenal, but I believe most of their later games were better. I know this is blasphemy, but I enjoyed Gunstar Super Heroes even more. However, Dynamite Headdy is the GOAT.
Hard disagree. Gunstar Heroes isone of their best games. Gunstar Super Heroes is overrated. It feels more like a remake than a sequel. There's so little screen space that there's no time to react to anything, so it becomes pure memorisation.
@@thaneros i actually enjoyed the Saturn releases the best. Guardian Heroes was number 1 with the Radiant Silvergun and Silohuette Mirage also being great. Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Headdy rule though. Wish they had a few more releases on more systems, but maybe thats why they are special.
Totally agree, the weapon system was just too complicated in the Genesis version. Adventures of Batman & Robin is a much better version of that style of game IMO. I also prefer super heroes. Having the levels designed around just 3 weapons makes it easier to know when to use what weapon where and makes for better level design.
This guy doesn’t know much about treasure: he’s showing footage of the n64 Bangaio-o claiming it has hi res graphics when you can’t play the DC version on an hd tv because there’s no vga mode because the graphics are only 240i b/c it was ported from N64. Yikes. Great game though, 7.5? Get fucked egm

Astroboy is my favorite by far.
It's the best Superman game ever made, and a great introduction to one man's entire lifetime of work.
Treasure is the hardest developer to search for, their name is so vague that Google thinks I'm talking about the genre.

Good ol' Mischief Makers... I love that goofy little game.
Why the Bangai-0 hd missile fury footage and not the actually game?

I will forever Treasure this video
I love treasure its 3rd favorite video game developer of all time next to capcom and snk.
why has there not been a treasure collection rerelease for Switch - expecially for those gameboy advance games - criminal.

Why did EGM bother putting the Game Gear version of Dynmaite Headdy? It's not even done by Treasure
Sin and punishment is awesome it should have been list.
Sin & Punishment didn't come to the U.S. until 2007, with the Virtual Console. Unfortunately, EGM didn't review Virtual Console games.
@@DefunctGames The sequel for wii is amazing!!!
@donkeypong1847 Both Sin & Punishment games deserve a good remastered re-release on modern consoles.

Gunstar heroes is the best game treasure has made. Dynamite headdy is a bit disappointing because of the frustrating difficulty

Ikaruga was originally a Naomi / Dreamcast game yet you listed its GameCube release??? I won’t stand for this Dreamcast erasure!
Electronic Gaming Monthly didn't review the Dreamcast version. I could only use the games they reviewed, and they went with the GameCube version.

@chrisflaherty2225 mistakes are often made when juggling a lot of clips. Not sure that suggests I don't know much about Treasure, but you do you.
