Wow you should have more videos on TH-cam this is probably the best installation video I have ever seen thanks for sharing I’m definitely subscribing to your channel look forward to another video 😀👍
Thank you for sharing your tutorials. I really do enjoy them. I have some locomotives that I need to clean, and lube. This gives me a more informed process to follow. Keep up the good work. 🚂🚃🚃🚃
Oh boy. I'm getting my soldering iron in the mail today to properly install a dcc chip in my kato p42. I'm nervous but this video helped so much. Thank you!
This video was very helpful for fixing one of these that had a broken truck that need replacement. Getting the shell off was the difficulty I was having.
Getting the clip off of the pilot has become impossible, I am afraid of breaking something. One side has come up but the other side remains intact. What gives?
Can you give the exact part numbers on all of the used equipment, please. Decoder part numbers, capacitor, and speaker. Thanks, this is very helpful as I’ll be doing this exact installation.
@@bernardc2553 Sorry to hear! Well stay warm and rest up, and play with trains when you can. I almost lost 3 fingers to a snowblower last year, and I've only recently gotten enough nerves and tactile back to to this hobby/business again! Close call. Cheers and happy holidays, Bernard!
@@rustnrivets WOW yup I caught myself clearing but stopped, broke a tree branch off & used it I was lucky. N is NOT been my scale but Wife thinks their cute so if that's what it's gonna take for her to get involved then I'm gonna have to "Getter Done "
@@bernardc2553 The sacrifice you'd make to share your hobby is small (pun intended), and N scale is so darn good these days it's gonna be easy and fun. Look forward to seeing your N scale couples layout someday! :D
You didn't show how to reinstall the front coupler, I followed everything else and then huh!!!!! Left in the dark. Thinking I will pull another F7 shell off and hopefully see more clearly. Still, very informative. Thank you!
Nice video, I'm having a problem with a Kato E8 Loco. I have converted it from DC to DCC using the appropriate decoder form Digitrax, (No Sound) This was my first ever doing anything like this. It works very well, except, when I put the Loco shell back on, very gently, nothing works. I removed the shell and tested it 4 times, getting the same results. Why!!?
Fantastic tutorial! Would appreciate part numbers. Like you, I also custom paint my equipment, to my freelance railroad, the Pacific Belt. I'm starting my 8th layout soon in N scale, and just subscribed!
I have two Kato N Gauge EMD F7’s (an A and a B) with MRC Sound decoders in them. I’m using the MRC Tech 6 and walk around handheld to run them. Can you tell me if it’s possible to turn the sound up on these? At the present, the sound is very puny… Any help is greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Bruce
I have been trying to do this installation for the past few hours. I did not solder the motor contacts because I have never soldered before. The light comes on but the loco will only move if I put my finger down on top of the clip where to motor leads are held down. Is the soldering a mandatory step in order to make this work? Do you have any possible suggestions? I have also made sure to install the kapton tape correctly as shown. Anyone else with a similar problem?
Hey bud! So those clips are THE weak point of this system. If it runs when you press down on the gray motor contact retaining clip in the middle of the board, then you did the install right. Take off the clip, fold the tabs up gently, and use a pair of flat (not toothed) needle nose pliers to bend the last 1/2MM (1/32 inch or so) of the tabs downward at a 45 degree angle to make contact with the pads even with a worn-out clip. Gives it the extra "tooth" needed to contact that pad better. If this fails, your clip is too worn out and I recommend siimply soldering those tangs to the pads there instead. There are no other hacks I can recommend as those two methods have always worked for me. Solder works best when used sparingly!

Wow, thanks! I'm back, and SO much more to share!!
Thanks for the video. I followed your steps on the A unit, and all went great! Onto the B!
No doubt !!! You have got the best install video I have ever seen. I think I may be able to finally get my AMTRAK going. Thanks for sharing

You're really good at controlling your camera. Everything is crystal clear!🎉
Outstanding tutorial-thank you so much.

Well done video, & very helpful but wish you had reinstalled the front coupler on the A unit.
Next time for sure! I'll be doing many loco strip & lube vids this month!

Don't the two units need to be speed matched and programed as a consist?
Can you tell me what type of soldering iron you have? My cheap one does not cut it.

ah, I see. I will be sure to try this out and if it doesn’t work, then I’ll just solder them. Thanks for your help!
Where do I find the micro-soldering iron that you use?
I think that by watching this video........I will stick to DC lol
VOLUME !!!
If you think that’s hard take a look inside the Fleischmann 7179 steam loco
Oh those are... finicky LOL good luck!
Can you give us the decoder part number for the fp7 in the video please?
