      Great review. Love it. Question - how did you find the room for your arm between the shifter and the arm rest (behind). Have heard there is limited room, where when downshifting, your arm/elbow can hit the arm rest. ??? I am waiting for one to arrive in Vancouver so I can test drive.

    • @FeisarX
      @FeisarX 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @trstnhn I know. He's not buying it from Genesis.. He thinks someone else should buy it new first. If every manual enthusiast bought their cars used there wouldn't be any manuals. Cars are made for what NEW buyers want.

    • @CharlesMTP
      @CharlesMTP 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      That's exactly TR's point. The "regular consumer" doesn't care about a manual transmission RWD sports sedan with a mechanical LSD, which explains why almost no automaker offers a M/T option anymore, since no one is buying these cars new.

      A person who buys the car from Genesis is a GENESIS customer. A person who buys the car 10 years later is a customer of the Genesis service department at BEST. Which of these consumers do you think Genesis cares about? Which of the two consumers do you think Genesis uses to decide what models and options they put out? The demand on a car with a manual transmission must be from people buying NEW cars. If it isn't there - you won't be seeing them on the used market 10 years from now because they were never made in the first place.
      If you want manuals to live.. buy a NEW car with one. If you can't, fine... but don't blame the manufacturer for not making them later.

    • @helloworldinthenet
      @helloworldinthenet 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The problem is if no one buys this new then in 10 years time there wont be many of them on the road. Meaning if he were to look for one and turn it into a project car, well good luck.
      In example back in the 90s Hyundai made a car called the Hyundai Scoupe, it was a small affordable 2 door "sports" car, which incidentally had a turbo, manual only version. Since back then no one cared for quirky turbo manual affordable "sports" car from a "cheap" brand not many were sold here in the US.
      I've been looking for an Scoupe Turbo for years now without being able to find one in good condition.
      Also try to find a 1970's Mazda RX4, they were sold in the states, but good luck finding one.
      I fear the same will happen to a car like this G70.

    Hyundai is in the process of establishing Genesis as a standalone luxury brand. To succeed they need to create buzz and showroom traffic in their new dealerships. The G70 is obviously part of that strategy. What better way to create interest among auto journalists (like Thomas) than to offer a classic European sport sedan in their lineup, especially as the Europeans have all but abandoned that small but still prestigious market. They won't sell many of the 2.0L, RWD, MT versions but offering it will draw some feet into the dealerships that wouldn't necessarily come to see the G80 or G90. If you like it, you better buy it because as another poster noted, it's not likely to be around in four or five years as the Genesis brand becomes established and demand for production of better selling V6 and AWD models increases.
    As for a comparison between the G70 and the Stinger, that's an "apples to pineapples" comparison. Neither is the "better" car. Despite sharing engines, interior features, and important drive train components, they're aimed at different market segments. The Stinger is a true Grand Touring automobile, designed for more than a weekend away with a significant other. For those who want to take a long vacation and don't want an SUV, the size and liftback design make it a great choice. (Try putting luggage for a two week trip for four or a mountain bike in a G70.) The Stinger will carve back roads, but the G70 is far better for that duty. And for the rising young mid-level executive the G70 says, "I'm hip but still conservative and value conscious. Promote me."

      @@bry0ung I still like the car but don’t “love” it. I had it wrapped in satin blue so it’s a visual stunner, but it’s not as compelling as I thought it would be. The fact that you can't get a manual BMW 3-Series without X-Drive is infuriating. Why BMW? It's heavier, suspension rides higher and reduces fuel economy. And it's more expensive. If customers want AWD then let them check the box as an option. Otherwise make RWD standard. You're not Audi. What's ironic is I used to be a BMW guy 100%. Now I like Audi's better. Audi has stayed true to their founding principles, unlike BMW.

At 45K Most younger enthusiasts will opt for something slightly used and more desirable like a used BMW. Big thumbs up for Hyundai for making this sports sedan but you hit the nail on the head when you said "I would buy this in 10 years" and so will every other young gen person, he'll buy it for 15 - 20k and mod it.

    I REALLY like *almost* everything about this car. I do have to say the build quality is great, and options amazing for the price. What i dont like is that it REQUIRES premium fuel. Before all the haters jump in and say "its turbocharged... u have to just cuz u have to" No you dont. When a manufacturer does it right it CAN run premium to make the most power but doesnt REQUIRE it. Ford for example.... all the of ecoboost engines can run any octane fuel u put in them. I have 2018 Taurus SHO that I love to death. Sure it makes more power on 93 but it doesnt get any better MPG with it. so why pay the extra 80 cents per gallon for my regular commute?! Any and all cars should be designed this way. if not, i feel it shows the computer controls and tuning they use are not very advanced. Combine that with the fact that this genesis gets HORRENDOUS MPG for a little 2.0 motor. I can see the turbo hurting the city rating. But Hwy under 30?? How is that even possible? Just cruising with no boost any 2.0 should be in the mid to upper 30s at minimum. again.... poor design\tuning

    • @2010ngojo
      @2010ngojo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It also depends on the gearing. Manuals tend to get worse highway mileage because they have less od gears for highway speeds. I bet this thing runs @2.5k+ rpm at 60-65mph. And this is a heavy car too.
      And I don't think it requires premium? They say that, but any modern gdi engine should be able to adjust itself to run regular.

    • @boost331
      @boost331 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@2010ngojo my 2012 mazda 3 with 6 speed manual runs about 2700 rpm @ 70mph. so call it about the same. It gets 40mpg all day long on a 2.0.
      sure it has half the horsepower, but at highway cruising speeds\ low throttle that makes no difference.

      It also weighs less. About 500 to 700 pounds. It's also rwd which is slightly less efficient than a fwd. Sure 30mpg is kinda low for highway, I barely get 26 combined with my 2.0t car. But it's not something out of the ordinary.

    • @genesisg7022
      @genesisg7022 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why are you complaining? Just keep your ford.
      I have the 3.3.T. I don't drive the speed limit, but I get better mileage than it's rated.
      Now when I put it in sport mode and step into the pedal, yeah! My mileage suffers.
      I look at it this way.
      Other vehicles with the same equipment and power will cost me at least ten thousand dollars (U.S. $) more.
      I will never eat up the price difference in gas money.
      If I get the rated 26 highway miles, and another vehicle gets 8 miles better.
      How many miles do you think I would have to drive to equal the price difference?
      You want a performance car, then complain about using premium fuel!
      WOW!
      Stick to your less powerful engine and call it a day.
      I've never heard of a person wanting a performance car complain about having to use higher octane fuel.
      What a vagina!

    • @boost331
      @boost331 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@genesisg7022 I love the old school comment "performance cars need premium fuel" you drive a glorified KIA not a Ferrari dude. I hear the same nonsense from guys with their "high perfarmance" 200HP GTI. My point really is only that while the koreans put great tech into their interiors, the engine tech os years behind. Modern engines should all be able to run any fuel the user chooses. In most cases the loss of power is not even noticeable unless unless you are looking for a tenth or 2 on a racetrack. In that situation run your premium, 100 octane, or E85. Its 2020. Kia needs to catch up.

My 2017 BMW M240i had one and yes it makes life more comfortable but not a necessity. Do you know for certain the G70 stick indeed has no rev matching ? Sometimes there are ways to configure the switches such as deactivating traction control by depressing the switch more than five seconds for example. Thanks for the enthusiastic review.

    I finally got to test drive a G70 Sport in a manual last weekend. It was very nice, but also felt quite heavy to me. It might be a sporty sedan but it didn’t really feel that way to me. Of course, it being a test drive with a salesman along, I didn’t drive it hard, so maybe it’s much more fun when you push it.
