    Are tables illegal in Pakistan or what? Why is everything always on the floor?

    Rare indeed.
    Because it "rarely" works.
    Especially with all that porosity.
    And no bevel....
    Ugh. This wouldn't pass day one of welding school.......

    Why would he cut in a keyway if he was gonna weld it anyway?

    I think the old gear was a cast iron piece and new gear bush was a high grade steel.
    So my concern is how they weld cast iron with iron without proper heating.
    Correct me if I wrong..

    • @honkie247
      @honkie247 ปีที่แล้ว

      The old gear was hardened steel. Cast iron crumbles into tiny pieces like coarse sand when it is machined.

    It's a lot like how I imagine things were here in England during the industrial revolution.... those machines may even have come from UK engineering plants that were shut down when all our machining and engineering was shut down and we just let China make everything... its a bit rough round the edges in the workshop not like a German factory for example but it's amazing too see what can be done still in these places.... wish there was more like this here ...can't beat creating somthing from a blank canvas

    That was so painful to watch. The manufacturing of the gear blank had no reference to the bore at all. Then the hobbing of the gear was the same, no ference to the bore. The hobbing mandrel should have been a snug (not tight) fit to the bore so that the gear PCD was concentric to the bore, this was not the case. No craftsmanship at all. As for the welding and keyways??? and putting scrap pieces of metal in there to stop rotation of the 2 parts was atrocious, and to be honest the welding looked like bird poo. Don't say they do the best with what they have got, what they lack is gear cutting and general engineering know-how. The gear will run eccentric on the machine it is fitted on and be noisy and suffer from accelerated wear.

    He shouldn't have measured the ID of the flange at the edge because it tapers to a smaller diam where the web is. This means some loss of thickness under the teeth. Also cutting the keyways will weaken the cylindrical ring further. Whilst the keyways would certainly improve the shear strength of
    the joint, a good weld shouldn't require them.
    It may be the problem was they couldn't make a good weld to the cast iron centre hub. A better way than keyways would be to heat the ring and shrink it on to the hub before welding.

    Amazing they use just the bolt tension to hold that blank in place- it would be pretty easy to turn a bushing to fit the shaft and the hole.

    • @angusmurray3767
      @angusmurray3767 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also it is more important the teeth are cut concentric with the bore in the hub than the
      OD of the ring because they were not both cut at a single setting. A bushing would help ensure this concentricity as well as resisting movement.
