Amazing soundtrack! I bought this game when it was first released and it seemed a bit rough around the edges...like it was rushed or something. I still loved it and still do today. The first time I saw Big Boss transform as a kid and then heard that rocking music is one of my best NES memories. Trying to figure out how to kill him took a few tries but when I finally took him down it was one of those gaming moments you never forget.
It's some of the best on the NES. The track for "Metal Gear" is absolutely brilliant with it's reuse of the original theme from the start of the mission. This game's ost is simply great.
the jungle infiltration song is freaking bad ass. Good ol Konami, always giving us great music. Im glad this game was made; not only was it a big reason as to why MGS is still around (Abliet with Kojima randomly changing voice actors), but because of this sick ass soundtrack
I believe this game and Battletoads is a large part of why I love metal these days. Listening to this soundtrack again it's so obvious to me it has many of my favorite elements of music in it. Such great music.
This is such a bizarrely epic and emotional soundtrack for such a goofy game. If a modern indie retro style game had this music today it would be winning awards.
I think it is now part of the main timeline due to the wormhole dimension in Metal Gear Survive and because of retcons. Lots of retcons. A theory I just came up with.
Love game music of the 80's/90's. Though there are some really good soundtracks in games today.. Its sad so many of them now try to sound like movies lol.
I remember the music of this game really standing out to me back then. That jungle theme is awesome! Not only the catchy themes but the instrument voices (especially percussion) seemed to be a step up from the normal NES sounds, like they somehow tweaked it for more authenticity. You can thank this game's existence for inspiring the rest of the Metal Gear franchise, considering Kojima didn't plan on continuing Metal Gear, until this game was in development.
Imagine the person on the development team would've never told Kojima they're making a sequel to a as he felt watered down version of his game. It's funny how such a minor thing can change history.
Cause he had no involvement, you could have called this any game else and it would have been a good enough game I think, But to be safe they slapped Metal Gear on their to be safe.
Hideo Kojima made Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake for the MSX only because he was asked by someone on the Snake's Revenge team if he please would make a sequel. And he did... Kojima, although having no involvement in this product, doesn't think Snake's Revenge is that bad of a game actually. The first Metal Gear for the NES however is an abomination... it's called Metal Gear but it doesn't even have a Metal Gear present in the game... X_X

It also lacks in good controls,it took me five minutes to figure out the menu screen, and the way snake moves, makes it incredibly difficult to hit enemies spot on. The story is stupid as well, why is big boss a cyborg? Because of the explosion at outer haven? But I thought he escaped outer haven? The most aggravating thing are the 2D sections, they're un- immersive and frustrating since snake moves so slow and the level design is so weird and annoying. And also it's really annoying how when you die you lose all items you have collected and the only way to stop this from happening is to go to a checkpoint which aren't immediately obviousunless you die. And last but not least, the password system is a bitch, hard to write down, hard to remember, and takes forever to input.
