The conclusion of the first movement--from 17:20 and climaxing with the passionate swell beginning at 18:07 gives me goosebumps every time.
the 3rd movement of this amazing symphony is the most underrated in all classical music, it's the most fascinating peace's of music ever written, a stunning profomence, by a magnificent orchestra.
the best thing about this recording is that its not all fff in the first movement. in most professional recordings the brass just blast at the same volume the entire time. its really boring that way and becomes white noise. in this recording there is a lot of dynamic variation making it more entertaining.
Very fine playing by this student orchestra. Hugh Wolff can take credit for this exciting performance of a great symphony. He has led many orchestras around the world. If you have very good speakers, the sound is brilliant. It does take a good orchestra to take the final movement at this tempo. The balance of the recorded sound is just right. Bravo to all.
Amazing sound from the strings, the oboe, and the horns. It's an excellent rendition of this piece by the orchestra under Hugh Wolff. A very pleasant surprise. Wonder what happened at 0:51 though.

Very very very good interpretation and very well done by the orchestra, These are all very impressive and talented young musicians. I have to say that I am particularly impressed with the principal flutist. Exceptional clarity of sound and technique
Really awesome. To take the Finale at that tempo is really first rate. I've always thought it sounds very difficult to slot that flute counter-melody in at 38:43, but it's really clearly played and well done here. And the cymbals at the end, what fun. :) Very impressive and enjoyable all around.
Piccolo solo at 31:04! I don't play piccolo, but it was what I was searching for.

We performed Patrick Marber's the Musicians about a year ago, and the whole plot revolves around the second movement of this symphony... Which is why I start reciting the script and pretending to play the cello every time I hear the second movement XD love this piece so much cuz of that one play :')
Very good performance. My top reference is Evgeny Mravinsky with the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. This symphony in F is very difficult because if you don't play very fine you will be ridiculous. I don't know the conductor and the orchestra but the performance is very impressive ! Congratulations

Can't sleep because I just listened to the audio of this piece and then decided to watch a performance of it. Saxophone/clarinet player very new to the orchestra world.

It's probably the best thing for me as I need to see the specifics of the professional recordings for when I play this with the Youth Orchestra.
I thoroughly enjoyed this performance by this young orchestra. The conductor would have done better to beat the Finale in 4 as opposed to 2 but that's a technical quibble. Bravo to all concerned! (I am available to conduct this piece should anyone like to get in touch with me!)

I've noticed something about student musicians compared to professional ones, they tend to move their body a lot more when performing.
One day someone is going to do a thesis on flouncing.
I think its because of their youth, they tend to have a lot more energy
That's so their parents and friends can pick them out in the crowd.
Aha, I'm 34 and still move my body to music. You get it in your soul and can't help to be moved by it.

Truly one of the great symphonies. I was watching this performance and could imagine how Beethoven would have received it. I believe he would have smiled, as I did.
Indeed. Although Brahms always gets the label of successor to Beethoven, surely in symphonic style (excitement, instrumental colours) surely it's Tchaikovsky.

Extraordinary how student or otherwise young non professional performers often show far more passion and excitement in their performances as opposed to staid, precise, and boring performances by well know "professional" performers. This is a glorious second-to-none rendition of Tchaikovsky's 4th symphony, one which has had more dull, awful, and boring interpretations than many other symphonies.

I love how they sound but I can tell that the orchestra needs social interaction. You can tell when an orchestra and their members actually do know each other
However, it's incredible how they play together. I've heard professional orchestras that don't come close to the level of this performance. CONGRATS!!

I don't like all the movement in the first violins. Just play the piece. It's very distracting. Otherwise, great performance.
+shelley jones That's great, but the violins are cueing each other, so as much as they probably care what someone on the internet is commenting, it's more important for them to be together.

I think the music conservatory should admit students based solely on their artistic and technical competence, not their skin color.

This is quite weak. It lacks force and energy. No musicality. The sound is immature and lacks sophistication and refinement. Not an authentic interpretation. Sleazy, slow conductor that’s trying to turn this into a sad Brahms lullaby. Mainly the conductor’s fault. I’d listen to Karajan, Bernstein, even Haitink. The conductor must be given the boot. Those are talented musicians, among the best. I expect a better conductor and musicians from such institute.
