I prefer portraits because I'm terrible with names😅 Having the portrait next to or above the name is so much easier for me. Takes forever to remember who is who😢 it'll be just like real life...
16 marriage candidates (or 15 I guess technically) is wild. GoA looks great so far, already preordered the LE because I love poor financial decisions. Enemies to lovers arc with Subaru x Kaguya is probably gonna be my go-to
@ They were fighting in the first trailer which is presumably the opening shot to the story before protagonist loses their memory, which is what I’m basing that on Website says childhood friends though so maybe I’m wrong about when the first trailer takes place
I did computer repair for 10 years, so I kind of look for stress points when I'm looking at things like the Switch 2, and I do have a couple of concerns. The switch looks larger, and I assume it will be heavier. When you are playing with the joycons connected, you're going to be putting up/down pressure on something that clicks in sideways. I see the little sticky-outy bits they've added, but I'm not sure that's really going to be enough support depending on how heavy that screen turns out to be. The way that kickstand folds out the way out is another thing I'm looking at. I can see that wearing out and slowly sliding farther down during use over time. We only got the quickest shot of it all the way open, but it appears easy to break away completely. Of course it's hard to tell until I'm actually looking at one up close, just some things that might turn out to be issues down the line.
These are really good points! I'm sure they did a lot of testing, but there will definitely be some flaws or things that break especially with the first model!
I think the saving grace for the kickstand will be the fact that almost nobody really uses it much - I don't know anyone that does, actually. Because you're right that even as a non-expert, it looks kinda flimsy to me.
Yeah, I wonder why they changed the way the joycons attached to the Switch. I like it the way it slides in vertically. And I agree the stand looks so flimsy and easily broken.
im so hyped for guardians of azuma!! i really love the look of all the characters and the story seems intriguing of what we know so far! my fav story of seasons is a new beginning bc i love the town building so im glad its made a comeback here😁im definitely pro portraits but them not existing doesn't make me mad when the models are good enough,,
My BIGGEST gripe with Rune Factory 5 was how empty the world felt (even the town felt so sad to walk around and took ages to go to any shops) and I'm really hoping this new one fixed that! I think Genshin has been a great inspiration for developers as well in regards to making more detailed and lush-filled lands!
Having DLC for sale before the game is released always rubs me the wrong way. Please go over what the DLC adds when it releases! If it just lets the 2 NPCs become romanceable then I'm fine with it.
I’m so, so hyped for this game. It’s nice to have you analyze the trailer for us… you saw a lot that I missed. I hope you’ll keep covering anything new that comes out about it! I can’t wait!
I’m looking forward to it! Although I love the crafting element in previous games, village building sounds fun too. And 16 romance candidates? I hope there’s some variation between the different protagonist choices in relationships because of personalities. But is that asking for too much? Lol Can’t wait for you to cover this on release!
In regards to character portraits, people forget character portraits were used because back in the day 3d models didn't look good and so character portraits were the best way to enjoy a character. And even now games that have small or low res 3d models (example Coral island) will use 2D character portraits because the 3d models aren't good enough. BUT modern 3d graphics are so good you don't need a 2d potrait anymore, you can just have the 3d models. It's unnecessary extra work and redundant from a game dev POV. I do miss the portraits BUT it's not that big of a deal for me. Also I LOVE the designs of all the characters. I did not like most of the characters in RF5 because the romaneceable female characters looked like they were 10yrs old, it was a bit...weird. But the characters in this game are much better designed and look like they will have fun distinct personalities.
Does make me remember Tides Of Destiny one of my favorite Rune Factory game. Am liking how the villager seems to be like monster where you make them work for you to do many different things. Wonder if you can tell your villager to gather the items from monsters. Aww all the romance folks look good not sure who I should woo.
Amazing news 😭 even though it's a spin off it looks so good! The new mechanics seem so exciting, the environments don't seem bare anymore, there are SO MANY romanceables and the story looks like it's gonna be loads of fun. I'm sooo tempted to pre order the Earth Dancer edition because this RF just seems like an instant hit for me
I'm so excited for this!!! Just waiting for pay day to preorder :D I never understood why people were so bothered by character portraits until I played SoS:PoOT and realised how utterly LIFELESS it was. And sure, that was because the characters themselves were flat, but portraits would have at least helped. But although I'm a little but sad they're missing, the animation in the conversations between characters looks really good here, so hopefully it will be OK!
I’m SO extremely excited for this game!! (And the new switch of course). Thank you Josh for another amazing video, I love seeing you get excited it brings a smile to my face😁 also I too appreciate a good galloping sound in games 😂🐴
YES!! I’m so excited!! I preordered it back when the first trailer released and it looks so fun! The town building is giving me even *more* Dark Cloud vibes than i got initially. I’m glad this is the switch(1) version they’ve showed too, was worried it would struggle like 5 but this is a great step up from their last entry 😊 edit: oh! and i will say i saw some people worried that the characters might lack because there is 16 romance options, but if you subtract the protagonists that’s 14 options presumably 7-7 split which is only one extra romance option per gender compared to previous games, so im not really worried.
I also think the portraits are not necessary if the models are good and can be seen clearly and up close! Giving them expressions ecc... Portraits are a must just in low poly games or less animated in general Idk how to explain it
Not sure how common this is in games, but it reminds me so much of Winds of Anthos! "It" being the spring/summer/autumn/winter villages, the volcano by the summer village, the item locations visible on the map etc. I love English voice acting in video games when done well, especially if there's too much text to go through!
Looks more like a town building game with some fighting mix in. Which is still be something I be into. So looking forward. I just hope they kept the stat raising stuff from doing stuff. And by raising monster stats by food items.
All Ive thought since day 1 of them showing this game was that it's very breath of the wild with farming and village life. I love that so much. Wonder if this is running on switch 2? It looks so good.
I can't wait for Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma, I've pre-ordered the limited edition of the game last year when it was announced. I'm looking forward to the story, combat and love interests, with the way you can interact with other gender MC is awesome, I already have 5 love interest in mlnd. With the Nintendo switch 2 announcement I'm going wait until they have limited edition version I like before I buy one.
I'm kinda sad the Switch 2 is just black 😂 I wish it launched with a white version too or something. It's always good to wait a bit, especially since launch models tend to have a bit more problems.
@JoshGamingGarden Yeah, it's a good idea to wait until they refine the console of its issues, and when other options for the console are, I'm still holding out for a Fire Emblem exclusive switch console.
Omg we had the same thoughts for a lot of this. I zoomed in on the volcano and stuff too and the particles looked a bit odd too, and a lot of empty spaces. The environments are better than rf5 but I'm a big nervous, I still think frontier looks better so far tbh. I'd rather revert back to old style graphics with less emptiness and stuff. I looove the 2d portraits. Unless you have wuthering waves style cinematics and 3d models almost every 3d game doesn't have expressive enough characters, or the expressions look weird/awkward or just bad in 3d tbh. Idk why xseed feels like a poor indie? Are they struggling big time or something? Idk with the kind of graphics some game are getting can't they hire better 3d modelers? Better 3d artists to do more detailed environments? Idk...maybe you need an insane budget. But even if they take 10 years I kind of want them to just slow down and keep up. Rune factory 4 is one of my favorite games of all time, and trio of towns story of season. The art and characters were great, expressive, the story was great, the pacing, the unlockables, and it was chock full of events dialogue and content and so many fun things to do. I want to be hopeful but seeing the trailers is worrying me a little bit that they don't really know what they are doing.
I definitely love Fubuki's design, but I can 100% understand liking Clarice. And that DLC guy, Cuilang, really reminds me of the ancient Chinese zombies, called Jiangshi. I really like his outfit, though. XD As for the new Switch 2, it is a bit underwhelming with all the leaks that have been going around, but I do like the look. I just hope it's not only in this basic grey/black color. Kinda boring. It's also hinted, during that sliding around bit with the joycons, that they can be used like a mouse. And regarding games that might not work on Switch 2, I'm assuming will be stuff like RingFit, Labo, and the ones focused with IR-play, if these two joycons don't include it.
My only concern with so many love interests the writing of their characters might come out bland, or the fact the dlc for the other candidates only mentions a romantic event im concerned if well only have one heart event per character.
In my humble opinion, the RF spinoffs are my fav and are always better than the main games. Also, since I think it is the first time we can marry a protagonist, I will definitely go for Subaru. I don't mind not having the portraits, honestly I think it breaks the emersion for me a little.
Oh my gosh!! I havent seen much about this one, though I've played every Rune Factory game they've made so far. This looks fantastic! Im excited to see so much detail in the world, as most of the 3d farm sims I've played have felt a bit empty.
I just hope that the footage they showed is the actual performance we get on the switch 1, I took so many breaks from Rune Factory 5 because of the performance strained my eyes. It's definitely going to run better on PC and Switch 2.
I’m gonna wait for the switch 2 pro 😄 or pretty color versions of the switch2. Since getting my steam deck in march 2024, I barely play on my switch. There’s just not a good variety of games with Nintendo and their game port overs suck. I’m a PC gamer so the steam deck was a nice touch for me to play my games in bed or anywhere other than my desk 😊.
I do like that the characters look significantly older this time. Was hard to get into some of the older games on romance, when the love interests just look like outright children
So far I like Fubuki, Kai and Murasame :D And for the Switch 2 as long as I still can play my switch games and there are nice new Switch 2 Games I'm happy :)
I am also an artist, a hobbyist. Rough refers to the textures, shapes, and overall “feel” being off. Objects in the distance should be more blurred/less detailed, not have completely missing trees or very clearly polygonal shapes and pixelated shadows. Visual consistency, clarity, and smoothness is very important when simplifying far off landscapes to not lose the overall visual feel of the horizon. Not as detailed/simplified background locations, yes, choppy models, visual inconsistencies, and visible pixelation degradation, no.
Of the options, Mauro or Fubuki seems most my type. Have they confirmed if they'll be doing same-gender romance again in this one yet? That was like *the* thing that got me into RF5 lol. Also honestly I'm just glad to see them actually doing things like LoD because it means they might have actually given some thought to optimization this time. I'm pretty sure a lot of the reason the Switch version (of RF5) ran like trash was how much it insisted on drawing everything that could be in the direction you were looking (which is why the framerate increased so much when looking at the ground).
Looks good! I'm definitely getting it. I like so many of those outfits, too. I guess if Hina is in this game then I guess she never got with that boy in RF 5 who had a crush on her. 😢
What kind of week structure puts monday on the 20th? Will a change be that each month no longer starts on the same day of the week? That second menu icon looks like a bag. I wonder if it will be for produce and other products. I'm thinking Iroha, Diluc I mean Kurama, Matsuri, or Pilica. I was thinking that we never got more than 12 romanceable characters in an RF game before, but technically we still have 12 but also plus the gods too. Hopefully their willingness to let us romance gods means we get to romance the dragons in the later mainline games.
It's the same week structure most Rune Factory games have. 😅 The weeks are 6 days each, starting on "Holiday" and ending on "Friday". 30 days per month, with the 20th always being a Monday.
It seems like each seasonal village will have it's own associated demihuman/monster race as villagers besides just humans. You see the kappa in summer village, the tengu in fall village, and the mushrooms in winter village. They didn't show springs, unless I missed it or that will be the human town. Just my prediction based on how they showed the characters. The graphics look stylized and enjoyable, much better than rune factory 5. I'm betting they had a bunch of new hires to deal with the all 3d RF5 mixed with the old team, and now they've matured as a complete team and are ready to tackle more complex styles. You can always tell a teams first 3d title vs their subsequent ones, the first one always looks like textures painted on stuff that doesn't perfectly match, kind of like Unreal assets slapped on things, and the next titles always look a lot more polished. I'm looking forward to this game very much, even if it will be a somewhat different style gameplay wise to their mainline games.
Oh, and on the character portrait topic, I don't need the portrait, but I do hope there is a large artwork for each character introduction. I do love that.
I think that it is very likely that this game will be a release title for the Switch 2; somewhat like Breath of the Wild on Switch and Wii U. Maybe there will be two Versions of this game for Switch 2 and 1.
I've preorderd the Switch US Collector's Edition simply because it has the way nicer Box-Art (I'm from the EU myself). But I'm seriously considering to also buy it for Steam, because I'm so so so afraid about the performance. Unless, during the Nintendo Direct in April, they announce that the Switch 2 is getting released in May (which I doubt) and Marvelous announcing that GoA has been optimized for the Switch 2. But if that is not the case (which I expect), then I'll probably buy the Game two times, because I don't want a rinse and repeat of RF5. While GoA already looks SO much better, considering this is Switch footage, I'm still worried about FPS drops, animation-stuck character models, lagging Festivals and what not. But besides that... I'm excited for GoA! Just 4 more months guys and we'll travel to the east and can pick from 16 romancable characters! Gosh, we need to do so many re-plays to be able to romance all of our favorites. Ha ha. ♥
i'll get it on steam; i almost preordered it for switch but i'm moving towards steamdeck and steam only so i refrained from getting the special edition; this game looks great, better than main line rune factory games imo
Oh neat, I just noticed Hina is a character in the trailer. Side note: I really, really, REALLY am not terribly happy with characters locked behind DLC. Even if there are already plenty in the base game, it just makes the game feel icky. Cosmetic stuff, fine. Swimsuits, sure, whatever. But characters? Meh.
I have to say this just to get it our of my system...I kinda think the people who wanted to romance Hina in 5 are going to be very disappointed. Their pain makes me happy. (And yes, there were some sick people who complained that they couldn't romance Hina in 5) Anyway, already preordered the game. Very excited.
Also, I sent an e-mail to Marvelous to say I'd like to see monsters having specialized jobs again, that I disliked the farm dragon from 5, and that I'm hoping to farm again in dungeons, it's cooler to farm in caves and ruins whose climates in closer to a season, #6. And that I'd like a remake of Frontier. And that if they made a crossover, I'd like to see one with Rune Factory.
I am a BIG character portrait person, but the animation and voice acting is great here so it's okay!
Enemies to lovers arc with Subaru x Kaguya is probably gonna be my go-to
They are enemies to lovers?:O
@ They were fighting in the first trailer which is presumably the opening shot to the story before protagonist loses their memory, which is what I’m basing that on
Website says childhood friends though so maybe I’m wrong about when the first trailer takes place
@@Lorekeeper_GGuy i also thought they would be enemies and am now very surprised they are childhood friends! :O
It‘s giving me Pokémon Legends Arceus vibes (from the visuals and theme) and I loved that game so I‘m super excited!
I didn't like Arceus haha but I do see what you mean!
@ Omg did you review that game? I'd love to know why you didn't like it!
@@JoshGamingGarden I am also curious why not hahaha! Was it because it had a bigger emphasis on collecting different Pokemon?
I don't mind not having a portrait, I just hope the map shows the characters we are looking for clearly
Magnets are strong.
Where the joycons attach was also a "better be careful" thing for me too. Unless there's magnets to help stabilize it, it seems very easy to break :/
I am so FLIPPING EXCITEDDDDD
There's so much going on this year, so excited for all of it!!
im so hyped for guardians of azuma!! i really love the look of all the characters and the story seems intriguing of what we know so far! my fav story of seasons is a new beginning bc i love the town building so im glad its made a comeback here😁im definitely pro portraits but them not existing doesn't make me mad when the models are good enough,,

I think Genshin has been a great inspiration for developers as well in regards to making more detailed and lush-filled lands!
16 romance candidates is a lot....
Hopefully it won't be a "quantity over quality" situation and they all have interesting and unique personalities.
Having DLC for sale before the game is released always rubs me the wrong way. Please go over what the DLC adds when it releases! If it just lets the 2 NPCs become romanceable then I'm fine with it.
it unlocks cabbages and the ability to sprint. /satire, I hope.

There were 24 karts on the ground for the new Mario kart so I think that bodes well for the new switch
15:16 16 of them? Wow.
I hope that they manage to balance their storylines and that they don't sacrifice quality over the sheer quantity of romance options

Released on my birthday woohoo
haha right before you mentioned Genshin, I was thinking “omg my dream, farming game in Inazuma”
while watching the new trailer i was hoping that we'd hear from you and see your thoughts!!!! i'm excited for it too (:
The trailer for this game is really beautiful I love it.😭
Of the options, Mauro or Fubuki seems most my type.
Yes, there will be same-sex marriage. They have confirmed it, and I don't think they would be going back.
Subaru and Kaguya are childhood friend?!
MY ROUTE HAS BEEN SET! 🗣🔥🔥LESGOOOOOO
I'm so hyped - I'm willing to put a cup of vinegar on my desk to help combat my motion sickness just so I can play this game!
Looks good! I'm definitely getting it. I like so many of those outfits, too. I guess if Hina is in this game then I guess she never got with that boy in RF 5 who had a crush on her. 😢
I'm sorry but the sad woolby scene reminds me of that one dobby scene 🤣🤣🤣
Love the character designs in this one. In rf5, there were only a few I liked. But I like everyones design in this game.
May is my birthday month this year.
Today is a glorious day
The joycons are showed off as being able to be used like a computer mouse!
I am so excited for this!!!!!
More headpats for Hina
I never played a rune factory game before, but this one looks awesome.
I think that it is very likely that this game will be a release title for the Switch 2; somewhat like Breath of the Wild on Switch and Wii U. Maybe there will be two Versions of this game for Switch 2 and 1.
I am so excited for the game!! The game seems to also be on Steam, so I might just play it on my Steam Deck.
I hope story of seasons games will be on the switch 2
Meh.
I’ve always thought Genshin Impact was one of the prettiest games so I’m super glad Azuma looks similar. I can’t wait to get my hands on the game!
Is this gonna be a Switch 2 game?
It's beautiful and I'm looking forward to it.
😊😊🏆🏆
Wondering if they are going to make a Rune Factory 2 remake
I can't wait for RF!!!
I am very excited about RF:GoA. It is my number 2 most wanted game this year (After Fantasy Life i).
It gives me monster hunter vibes and I love it.
I have to say this just to get it our of my system...I kinda think the people who wanted to romance Hina in 5 are going to be very disappointed. Their pain makes me happy.
(And yes, there were some sick people who complained that they couldn't romance Hina in 5)
Anyway, already preordered the game. Very excited.
Genshin + Rune Factory = I might buy it. otherwise I would not normally get a rune factory game
I hope have money to buy...
I did my preorder monday. Gamestop said that the release date was March 30th by then. I paid nearly 150 bucks for the special edition.
The oni god got my attention
Yipppiieeee!!! RF!!! I cant wait.
