Recently retired I have spent a lot of time watching fishing videos waiting for the new season to start. I have to say, your channel has it all. Your video skills are 2nd to none. You can hear the love you have for Scotland and fishing in your voice. I am not sure why you have not been snapped up to do your own TV fishing show. Absolutely amazing and thank you for sharing your experience with all of us. I'm looking forward to joining you on all of your adventures via this channel. Tight Lines.....Willie
Thank you, my brother! I saw you had a very productive fishing trip to the highlands a couple of weeks ago. It's a long way from Glasgow but I'd thoroughly recommend the far north west. Next time I need to take the family (and we'll go when the midgies are a bit less of a problem 😂). Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟
Another great film Sean, some fantastic shots of our beautiful county (midges excluded) we really are very fortunate having so many wonderful places to explore and fish.
Couldn't agree with you more Tom. And when I'm thinking about this trip in the dead of winter, it's not the midgies I'll be thinking about. Rather the red spots on the flanks of those beautiful trout and the way the mist clung to the high peaks on that first day 🙏🏼🎣🏴
@@SouthsideFlyFishing Exactly Sean, those wee trout were beautiful, I’ve been lucky enough to have caught a few similar wee beauties this season on my local river.

Another wonderful film, love that area of Scotland as have relations that stay in Ullapool, the dreaded midges bites again. Looking forward to my own trip in a couple of weeks time fishing Dunalastair Water and the River Tummel at Kinloch Rannoch, caught my biggest wild brown trout on that part of the River Tummel many years ago on the fly at night, 6lbs 12oz. Looking forward to the next film.
Beautiful part of the country you're visiting, Keith! Hope you manage to bag another trophy or two while you're there. I've lost a few very big fish on the Clyde but never came close to a 6lbs+ river trout in Scotland. Hats off to you 👍🏼🐟🏴

Great entertaining films entertaining and educational and lovely locations, bought a vision glass rod after your recommendation great rod love the slow action are there any other slow action rod you would recommend thanks again for the videos keep them coming!!
In terms of carbon rods I’m really enjoying the redington classic trout rod. It didn’t break the bank and it’s got a really nice moderate action. It’s still fast compared to a glass rod but I love it for heavier streamer work and on the lochs. You might like the redington butter stick if you can find one to try out. The 7ft 3wt in particular is meant to be a lovely casting rod but I’ve heard good things about the entire range 👍🏼

Ah cheers Simon, much appreciated 🙏🏼. It's a Vision Glass Trout rod. I've been really getting into fibreglass rods these past few years. A very talented rod builder, Sandy Nelson in Inverurie, is building me a 7'9 4wt rod on a McFarland glass blank this winter. I had a shot of one earlier this season and it was, without doubt, the nicest rod I have ever cast! I use a 6wt Redington Classic Trout rod on the lochs. But I can see the Vision rod sitting in the attic as a spare when Sandy's rod arrives! Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟🎣

That’s so good to hear Simon! Small streams definitely feed the soul. If you’re looking for a short rod that won’t break the bank, the 6ft Shakespeare oracle 2 rods are meant to be pretty decent for the price 👍🏼
Great Work! Just coming into fall in New England, and our Brook trout will put on their spawning Tartans! Is it possible to post the music sources? Again , Very Beautifully Done, Thank You Sir!
Ah, thank you 🙏🏼. Fall in New England must be sensational! I'm absolutely obsessed with brook trout. I've caught stocked brookies in Scotland and wild arctic char in Iceland but never a wild north American brookie. One day, maybe! I get my music from Epidemic sounds. Most of the songs are from an artist called Headlund: www.epidemicsound.com/artists/headlund/ 🙏🏼🎣🏴
@ 4.48. Looked like a mill pond but you got a take !? Also , yes, midges are hellspawn but how often do you get a windless , calm day in the Highlands . ? ( apart from the days you've arranged to fish..!! )
Yes! Very strange little bit of river at 4.48. I wish I could have hooked one of those trout as I bet they would have looked very dark and very cool! Never mind. And you're so right about the wind - I'm never cursing it when it's blowing a gale again! 😂🙏🏼🐟
Cattle, sheep, deer and even birds I think. From what I've read, the females are the ones that bite and they do so because they need a blood meal to mature their eggs. I've been up to the north west plenty of times but they were on another level this time. The ticks seem to be getting worse and worse too. Shame because if you get the weather, the North West is glorious perfection otherwise!
Great to hear from you and what a brilliant name for a future TH-cam channel 😉! I use Adobe Premier Pro. It's not cheap but I've been using Adobe products for so long now. I hear good things about Davinci Resolve (which is free) and I actually started out on good old iMovie!
There may be some who wear their bites like a badge of authenticity. I am most certainly not one of them 😂. And you’re spot on about the wind. They’re actually terrible fliers when you think about it 👍🏼

But I can see the Vision rod sitting in the attic as a spare when Sandy's rod arrives! Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟🎣
@@SouthsideFlyFishing thanks Sean since watching your videos I’ve ventured out into small streams and found some amazing small trout, it’s got me out of the house instead of vegetating in front of the the tv , I’m 20 miles north of inverness, invergordon and finding more and more places to fish but could do with a small rod to get under the trees , thanks again tight lines
Also , yes, midges are hellspawn but how often do you get a
windless , calm day in the Highlands . ? ( apart from the
days you've arranged to fish..!! )
Yes! Very strange little bit of river at 4.48. I wish I could have hooked one of those trout as I bet they would have looked very dark and very cool! Never mind. And you're so right about the wind - I'm never cursing it when it's blowing a gale again! 😂🙏🏼🐟
What I want to know is there are not many visitors so what do the midges live on? Cattle blood? Deer blood? Anyone know?
Cattle, sheep, deer and even birds I think. From what I've read, the females are the ones that bite and they do so because they need a blood meal to mature their eggs. I've been up to the north west plenty of times but they were on another level this time. The ticks seem to be getting worse and worse too. Shame because if you get the weather, the North West is glorious perfection otherwise!
Bravo✌👋👋
Thanks mate 🙏🏼🐟
Excellent video! I’m new to the channel and really like your style
Can you please tell me what software you use to do your color grading?
Great to hear from you and what a brilliant name for a future TH-cam channel 😉! I use Adobe Premier Pro. It's not cheap but I've been using Adobe products for so long now. I hear good things about Davinci Resolve (which is free) and I actually started out on good old iMovie!
I think we are proud of Midges in a perverse way. I started smoking tobacco to help, fat lot of use it was anyway. Just a whisper of wind is enough..
There may be some who wear their bites like a badge of authenticity. I am most certainly not one of them 😂. And you’re spot on about the wind. They’re actually terrible fliers when you think about it 👍🏼
When you are fishing these very remote burns and rivers, do you need a permit? I would think that the chances of meeting a gamekeeper are fairly low!
Any tips on access, licensing, permits?
Love the video what’s the name of the first song ?
Hi Martin, it's by an artist called Headlund on Epidemic Sound 👍🏼. Thanks again for the flies!
I'd love to chat in private as I was touring Scotland in July and not 1 person could give me a straight answer to small stream brown trout fishing. I caught plenty of trout but wanted to know more about the regulations. Got a link or social media page?
You and everyone else in that situation, just buy a bee-keepers hat. You will wish you brought it years before
Has anyone ever fishing the south esk on a spinner near Dalkeith
