My father taught me how to drop a fly in a tin can from 10 yards when I was 11. He taught me small brook skills in upstate NY fishing native brookies. I have a bamboo rod made in Utica NY almost 100 years ago. It is pristine. I have memories of lakes and streams and rivers and brooks and the many native fish I saw in them. After a time, fly fishing became so easy I pinched my barbs down. On a trip to the High Sierra for Goldens I cut my hooks off completely and just fished for the strike.....I never harmed another trout.

Look, I stumbled across this truly amazing little bit of footage an hour ago and just finished watching it for the third time. It is the finest visual I have ever seen on fly fishing. I am 72 and have fly fished since I was 10 in Scotland, England, Wales and widely in Australia, covering many species, fresh and salt. I did not understand one word the gentleman spoke, nor do I need to. In fact, I would actively avoid any translation, none needed. It was a privilege to have seen this. I will watch it many more times, I thank you.

You put into words how I have felt for many years traipsing up and down my small Colorado, and now Idaho, creeks and tributaries. After watching this video I now have wise words and a Chinese proverb to print and post by my desk at work. Thank you for sharing. This is a wonderful video.
Dears, I also become 60 next year (hopefully). I did experience the minimalistic joy of fly fishing in the alps and near my home in upper Franconia (Germany). But that is almost a decade ago. I always wondered if there was a fly fishing scene in Japan. I was a child when I lived in Tokyo from 1976-78. I would have loved to go fishing more while I was there. Now that I'm an adult, I want to go back and spend a few weeks fishing Honshu and Hokkaido islands. Thank you for this video, it was beautifully done and makes me wish I was there with my own bamboo fly rod.

I like shime saba very much, also a good single malt. I live in Cornwall UK and have a small moorland stream in our garden which has small trout, and the heron starts flying in daily through the winter and cleans them out, but i always see the tiny little fry appearing in the slack water in early summer. 10 minutes down the road i can be on the main river, and cast a fly for a sea trout, or 20 minutes and be by the sea with a chance of a mackerel or sea bass. I love the wild nature of Japan, and appreciate the culture of artisan craftsmanship you have. Arigato and kanpai!

Been fly fishing for about 50 years, my father fished, and I have tied flies on my grandfathers fly tying vice. It’s a wonderful pastime, I have fished all over the U.K. and 7 times in Norway. I highly recommend it, always something to learn, it is peaceful and relaxing, and takes you to fabulous locations.

I got my first fly rod when I was 12, (actually a japanese "No brand" glasfibre rod with steel ferrules), and have been "hooked" ever since. I'm now 66y old and newly retired so plenty of time to go fly fishing, mostly grayling but also trout now and then. I can so wholeheartedly relate to this movie as it captures the same feelings I have for fly fishing in small rivers. 15 years ago I also got the opportunity to acquire a cane rod made by Ulf Löfdahl, a renowned swedish cane rod maker, and have never looked back. It feels like you are coming closer to nature when using it compared to modern carbon fibre rods, it is that simple. Once again, thank you very much for this excellent movie. Greetings from Sweden.

I got my first fly rod when I was 12, (actually a japanese "No brand" glasfibre rod with steel ferrules), and have been "hooked" ever since. I'm now 66y old and newly retired so plenty of time to go fly fishing, mostly grayling but also trout now and then. I can so wholeheartedly relate to this movie as it captures the same feelings I have for fly fishing in small rivers. 15 years ago I also got the opportunity to acquire a cane rod made by Ulf Löfdahl, a renowned swedish cane rod maker, and have never looked back. It feels like you are coming closer to nature when using it compared to modern carbon fibre rods, it is that simple. Once again, thank you very much for this excellent movie. Greetings from Sweden.
