I know someone with one that's olympic gold / original owner - changed the cam to hydraulic roller - way better power band and no valve adjustments - he also swapped the points distributor for an HEI unit
Factory ignition timing was specified low so it would pass emissions and so the owner wouldn’t blow the engine up. Set initial to 14* which should equate to 36* at 3000 rpm if you have a back dial timing light. Timing is set with the vacuum hose off the vacuum advance can and plugged with a golf tee. Secondary throttle stop screw adjustment Must have carb off car. Set as follows: Back off adjustment screw until the throttle plates are fully closed (secondaries). Turn adjustment screw until it just touches the throttle lever and turn 1/2 turn more to position the valves. Don’t listen to the know it all dreamers. Leave the smog on. I tested my 70 Z28 with and without the smog. No big difference.😮
1) the TUBES don't affect the way it RUNS 2) One can simply remove the tubes...remove the injection manifolds and plug the holes with pipe plugs...OR...only remove the tubes 3) he SAID he wants to KEEP IT ALL ORIGINAL
Timing effects dwell but dwell does not effect timing so check the points and condenser that would be the first place I'd look As a matter of fact just to eliminate the whole points issue I'd of course save the original distributor but swap in a nice quality hei unit and then see how she runs 90 percent of people's carburetor issues are not carb issues at all but timing and of course before 73 dwell issues hence the hei distributor came into play I'm not a gambling man but I'd be willing to bet on your problems being distributor and not carb

Sounds amazing, my uncle had a 69 chevelle ss 375hp 396 with chambered exhaust, brings back memories.
Sweet car.
Sounds like freedom! Sounds awesome enjoy the car for us all.
that 4 degrees spec was during a different fuel era with LEAD being the anti-knock agent
That sounds amazing and is a gorgeous car
Verify tdc on your balancer, those things move around had a 327 that was 8 degrees off
Sounds great 👍
Nice car. Didn't the 302 come with a solid cam? I had to adjust my solid every month at the very least. Usually every 2 weeks
How could anyone hate a Z 28 with chambered exhaust???
that what I was thinking 🤔....

Awesome advice John springs in advance of Distributor make big difference!
Drive tractor trailers for my dispatcher that work as a 68 Camaro RS white with blue pinstripes 327 original factory
It starts faster than others I have been around.
Beautiful car! My ATF
She sounds real good to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s a mechanical cam you gotta mess with the valves tinker around with it a little ain’t really no big thing

It'll never run right with those smog tubes blocking the exhaust ports. A set of headers and 2.5" exhaust will give you 40hp and torque.

I think back in the day 90% of Z28s got headers shortly after purchase.@@ralphsmith2683
I hope you used poly locks with your rocker arms. They'll hold the lash were the half ball and nut will not.
NOT poly locks - POSI locks - ALL STEEL - NO poly
Pardon me.@@ralphsmith2683
Why is there a second generation z28 emblem stuck on the dash near the ash tray.

Yup your Z/28 sounds Bad Ass!!! No Doubt, but may I ask ... what is a 35 squirter?

Cool wish we had that up here Racing Fuel at Daaa Pump thanks for Info

If this is an 11:1 engine, it might want a dose of race gas (in addition to what he normally runs.)
how was the drive?
Fun I wish the Chambered exhaust sound was better on the video's its tough to hear
Are you willing to sell it to a real Camaro Z lover?
It would probably be sell for $80,000 or more.
