Like seeing the horse. Flash is beautiful!! Just watched video of 15 largest breeds ..Shire was on there. Luv that barn with the stone wall built in 1800s n still standing. That's when things were built right.
This horse has hoofs the size of salad plates! Good thing he's well mannered. I watch another YT channel that rescues wild horses and the hoofs are in great shape due to the fact they are roaming in the hills where the terrain is hard. Once they have been in paddocks for a while then hoof care needs to be started. The owner of the stable often talks about how great the wild horse's feet are, as you said it's in their DNA. (the horses are rescued because otherwise they go to a kill pen to be harvested for meat). Interesting about the shoeing dynamic...to shoe or not to shoe...as you said this horse has thick hoof walls, so "no" to shoes. At what point does a shoe need to be put on...is it the wall of the hoof, the type of lifestyle the horse has, a combination of the two, I'm thinking. The barn has a wonderful history...and looks at how sturdy those stalls are! Can just imagine the 44 draft horses in their stalls, the nickering and snorting among them, the smell of the leather harnesses. Thanks for another great video.

We have recently taken ownership of a shire stallion, so I really enjoy watching videos on shire/draft horses. We believe in keeping our horses barefoot.
I’ve always been fascinated by horses! All the different breeds, etc. Whether a walking horse or a racing horse it doesn’t really matter. I’ve been drawn to them since I was a little girl many many many moons ago. LOL. IDK maybe my being from Kentucky (Home of The Kentucky Derby 🐎 😊) has something to do with it. LOL. Growing up several of my childhood friends had ponies, but my family wasn’t able to afford one. However, the first time I got to see one up close I was hooked! I’ve always been interested with how people take care of them and things like that. Just discovered this channel today & I’m excited that I did!! The information & content is so intriguing. You appear authentically very passionate,dedicated and caring in your work. Your horse clients can’t express it but I’m sure the satisfaction of being able to see the difference you make is their “Thank You” to you. A barefoot horse is a hallmark of excellence. Love the backstory of the barn and farm. It was heartwarming to me. My great grandfather farmed with grey mules at about the same time in the 1910’s.
Their horses are ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! Thank you so much for sharing them with us, along with the history of the farm/barn! It was truly neat to see the stone wall as I have never seen one in a barn before. Also thank you for explaining what you were doing and why you were doing it. I have some knowledge of horses but not at all when it comes to trimming their hooves. 🐎❤
Shire horses are a huge favourite in my family, lucky enough in the UK to live near a shire horse centre…..very beautiful gentle giants. I’m a new subscriber…..videos are fascinating and very satisfying 😊😊
I love draft horses! So many of them seem like gentle giants with great personalities. I bet I wouldn't love their feed bills, though, haha. Thanks for sharing! Question: I notice that most farriers will trim/shape the hoof wall and frog, but they don't really clean out the "gutters" next to them (for lack of a better term) and just leave them as they are. The end result is a nice white sole and clearly defined frog with dark unsightly lines/cracks around the periphery. Is it bad technique to cut too deeply in those spots, or do you just leave them because they get dirty again right away?
Another good one Caleb. At one point in the video, y9u commented on breeding horses for certain qualities, while ignoring others that do not “seem” important at the time. I immediately thought about the personalities, feet and legs of Thoroughbreds. The lines of some sires are lucky to finish 2-3 seasons. My son bought one from a “buddy”, whose hoofs would not hold shoes for them, and came with chunks of hoof rim broken out by nails. She was lame in front 2/3 of the time with almost no riding. I suggested selling her. When she kicked me on the left knee cap, it was my call to get the vet. The first horses that my brother and I rode were Dick and Dolly, a team of gray Percherons. That one that you trimmed seemed like a big baby.
We had a big draft horse (Percheron) named Bill. My Dad bought him to pull out timber “the old way”. My Mom and I thought he was going to die! I loved Bill; he had a gentle, sweet personality, and he was fun to ride…but he didn’t like water. I got bucked off one time when Dad tried to lead him over a bridge; I’ve never seen a hoof that big come so close to my face! Thank God he didn’t connect 😅

A friend's brother bred two Clydesdale/ AQHA crosses...full brothers...in hopes of using them as a mid-weight team for pulling contests. They turned out to be Mutt & Jeff...totally different looks, height, weight...he was so disappointed. He was hoping for a somewhat matched set. They were both great horses, just not really matched...😂

There’s a horse I know who can’t be barefoot, due to issues but most of the horses at the place are barefoot, or wear special boots if necessary.

I used to work at a Cider mill, and we had two beautiful Shire horse to pull the wagon and shows, they were huge, but gentle.

The gutters are called the comishers its not really necessary to cut there and its also sensitive sometimes so most of us just don't do it

Why don't you 45 degree the hoof wall most of the way and then roll the edge?
Because that's improper procedure. It's a terrible practice and cause issues down the road. 45 the toe is a lazy and terrible trimming practice.
