Built around 2000, Harmeswood of Belle Aire is a beautiful village full of large, luxury homes on spacious lots. Mature Live Oak trees and beautiful majestic palm trees give this area a shady, stately appearance. You'll find large homes with lots of bedrooms and bathrooms. Pools and huge circular driveways are common. Come along for the ride and enjoy this established neighborhood.
    The channel is more than just The Villages. It features episodes designed to inspire retirees to make the most of their golden years. Kayaking, hiking, golfing, music, travel and more is featured.

    I grew up in Ocala Florida. And I have to say, this neighborhood looks very reminiscent of some of the beautiful neighborhoods in Ocala! I encourage those thinking about relocating to Florida for retirement to not only explore The Villages but also the neighboring towns and see how much more they could get for their money, most likely bigger lots, better value and quite possibly a better quality of life in a normal small town. I remember the outskirts of Ocala, with its green pastures and horse farms. Certainly there are Country clubs to join, great golfing, all the amenities you enjoy at the villages, and multi generational living! I loved my childhood there! I live in Chapel Hill, North Carolin now and it’s absolutely Beautiful! I love the change of seasons but Ocala will always be my home!
    Anyhow I just wanted to chime in it when I first saw the pretty streets… I always love your videos and your personalities are always so positive! Hope you have a great weekend!

    Just finished watching your video on monthly expenses, and now watching this tour neighborhood, and love it. Being retired from real estate, I love homes and designs. I bought my patio home four years ago, due to having heart surgery, and wanted a house with mostly one floor living. Just a mile and half from my old one, and across from the 18th tee of the golf course. Thus I collect about 100 golf balls a year, and one neighbor collects even more. My old house sat in a neighborhood with homes built from 1800's to modern, and all different styles. My current home 3 bedrms 2.5 baths has 2,220 sq. ft. and built in 2006. (44 homes in my phase, and more in phase two down the road). These homes pretty much all resemble each other (several different floor plans), and sale from 300K to 480K. Love the neighbors and neighborhood, and so glad that I ran across your videos. Homer in Salem, VA

    I think the typical buyer in that neighborhood would be an executive rather than a retiree, although I assume there is a mix. We retired and moved from a similar style neighborhood (large 40-year old homes on 1- to 4-acre lots with mature, manicured landscaping) to a small retirement community in FL. We downsized from about 4,000 s.f. to 1,500 s.f. and from a 4-car garage to a car + golf cart garage. The old neighborhood was lovely, but it feels SO mentally free to have less to manage now. That's the kind of retirement I want.

    • @Gone_Flying
      @Gone_Flying 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We just bought one in that neighborhood and am definitely a retiree! I worked in IT, and was never an executive...whatever that means! We did have a 6,000 s.f. home, and rented a smaller home and just felt like we were on top of each other all the time. We had visitors and just felt suffocating, so we knew we needed a bigger place. We did have two requirements for a home that we had difficulty finding a designer home that could meet it. A separate formal dining room and two separate walk in closets in the master bedroom. For us, having more space is mentally freeing and couldn't imagine shedding who we are to fit a house. Each of us are different, and thats what makes the Villages so nice!

    TFS. Beautiful area. Makes me want to return to my former home on acreage, FOR A FEW SECONDS!!!!!!!
    The trees are everything to the ambiance of the neighborhood.
    We had a small stocked lake, and I had to nicely, than not so nicely ask a family to vacate our property as they were fishing! We lived in our home for 27 years. Life happens, and we sold the home designed by a cousin who also designed the Pepsi Cola plant decades ago, in NY.
    All I want now is to downsize, again!!!!
    As we age our wants and priorities really change!
    This type of home requires lots of money and commitment to maintaining the lifestyle.
    Serenity now!!!!!! LOL.

      @@barbaraebner5889 Moving and leaving "the familiar" was one of the hardest things I had to do. I don't relinquish personal possessions that easy; most people find it difficult.
      If you decide to move,
      take your treasures.
      When the time is right, you may feel differently.......you may not. It's such a personal thing. I inherited a gemstone ring from my beloved Grandmother.
      It doesn't have great monetary value, but it brings me right back to my childhood when I wear it. I may wear it on my hand, but it's my heart that carries it. I'm considering giving it to my younger cousin at this time.
      She will be the beneficiary of all my property one day, she could be enjoying it, now. Good luck in your endeavors.

    Thank you for all the information. I was at the Villages few weeks ago. I was engaged with a real estate agent to review the area and see some of the available homes. The Villages is a good environment for some people who would like to live in an easy to understand town, predictable but hermetic and limiting. I feel that when you are in the company of mostly older people you age faster. I want to be part of a community that is a cross section of the country , with kids, teenagers, newly married couples, adults and older folks. The activities and classes seem superficial except for sports events. When you are out of the Villages and drive around, that world hits you hard, there is a lot of poverty outside this town. The Villages is not a life style, it is a formula. It is perfectly fine if you want to live in a formula, a bubble, ,,,,but it is not for me. Plus you get crap for your money in terms of decent housing unless of course you are used to the California price tag. No... not for me.

    • @someguy95376
      @someguy95376 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The Villages is not for everyone - most people either love it or hate it - not really a lot of middle ground opinions. But I do have to chuckle a little about your thinking that people age faster in the Village - there are so many activities and active people in the Villages that being there keep you motivated to keep fit, healthy , and active! When you see a 90 yr old playing golf 4 times a week or an 80 yr old playing pickle ball and making the 65yr olds look silly playing the game or 60-70 yr old's playing soccer, softball, basketball, etc- well, guess you have to see it to understand what I'm talking about. IMO , you're more likely to get "older faster" in those communities you infer are "better" , esp if you live in a cold weather climate and are stuck indoors all winter. My folk are pushing 90 and swear FLA has added 10 yrs to their lives.
      As far as housing costs- yes, def higher than other communities but the amenities you get for the monthly fee are second to none - that's what you pay for.

    • @JERRYANDLINDA
      @JERRYANDLINDA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve, your answer was spot on. The only thing that we want to add is that most of the people that as you said "hate" the villages don't live in The Villages. occasionly we hear of a disgruntled resident, but overall the people that live here enjoy their lives.

      @@someguy95376 I live in a southern small 'real" town called Fairhope and I play tennis 3 times a week, one or two times golf, we have a bicycle society and we ride every Sunday, every Friday we have an art fest that involves all the shops downtown and the Art Center, all the shops and restaurants are locally owned [no chains], Mardi Gras parade is part of the festivities, in 2 miles I am on the Mobile Bay, in 30 I am in Gulf Shores; some of the best beaches in the world, the hiking and natural trails are 50 miles long, there are 3 major state and federal Nature preserves within 3 to 10 miles. Our Nix Center has innumerable events for older folks including physical activities, indoor and outdoor pools. The sunset from the Municipal Pier and bluff attracts hundreds of visitors daily. The weather is better than the Villages because we get the breeze from the Gulf. We are 30 minutes from Mobile and 40 minutes from Pensacola airport. We have an excellent hospital, Thomas. I look forward interacting with young people as I am planning to teach linguistics in our gorgeous library, they keep me young. No conversations of ailments, operations, maladies, aches and pains with them. Just life affirmation. I found too many cranky people in The Villages, showing off their status with customized golf carts. Many pushy people coming across like they own the entire place. Very pretty neighborhood, obviously the yards are maintained by lawn services or HOA. My concern is how hard is it to get homeowners insurance? The homes prices seem reasonable for the lot size and home size.

    We came here to retire. So we sold our 2.5 acre 4000+ square foot home, gave away half our "stuff" and moved to The Villages. Now, we can't imagine a life full of the daily household chores that go with a big house. Harmeswood is a beautiful neighborhood and thanks for showing it. But it ain't for us. [gesundheit, Linda]

    What a spectacular ride along. It was so nice to see my New England style homes sprinkled among the neighborhood! The house lot sizes are amazing, as is the beautiful mature greenery. Is this style of neighborhood but a memory or, might they build some more as the villages continues to grow? Once again, thanks for the ride.

      With land in such demand we doubt it. Some of these were on over an acre. Today's developers can put a bunch of homes on an acre in a carefully planned situation. Thanks, Linda!

    Another area that you may want to tour is the northern section village of La Zamora. It is off 466 between Morse Blvd and Rolling Acres Rd. The homes in that area are not premiers, but rather designers. The lot sizes are typical of most of the other Villages areas, but the house styles, landscaping, and large trees remind me very much of a neighborhood up north. It definitely has a different feel than the newer areas in the southern areas of The Villages. And it is just a short golf cart ride to all the shopping along 441 and Spanish Springs. Although, as you mentioned, lots of leaves to pick up. But during the rest of the year the area has that "back home" feel to it.

    Love your videos! I too like looking around other places and seeing the architecture. They are very beautiful and the gardens are beautiful. I too have a huge beautiful house and beautiful garden up in the mountains with a view over the lake.with the mountains in the far way distance, here on the island of Sri Lanka. BUT...... all fine and dandy while my husband was alive! Now not anymore. The up keep is too expensive and the maintenance a pain in the neck! Especially here in the tropics. The house is in the jungles so that all the birds and Animals come inside and out. Dieting it in the process! No fun at all trying to keep it clean. I have been trying to sell it for almost a year and an,at and had not buyers. First we had the bombings als Easter and investors stayed away. And now the corona virus!! My plan was to sell and then rent a small one level house in the next town where there are people I know and hospitals and shops are close by. I have to travel over an hour in terrible ferocious traffic, to get things. What is the use of all this when it is lonesome, expensive and exhausting??? Please keep your fingers crossed that I find a seller soon. Though of course on the other hand it is going to be very painful to have to leave this place which I designed and built myself with all the love in my heart. But I must move on and enjoy my last few years and not have to work from morning to night! God bless you both. I do enjoy “my time with you”!

    Nice 3 car garage ranches with space between homes. We get less house for the money on the west coast but continual offers to buy through mail, texts and calls even when the home isn’t on the market and we can get good equity and location with every convenience nearby. So I think if you can, you should buy and if it’s not enough space you can later sell and afford something like this.

    Gorgeous homes there. Based on some comments from you Jerry, I think you need a home with a larger yard. I understand how hard it is going from owning acreage and changing to a home with a small yard. It does have its advantages but when you are used to the country, like you have grown up with, it is very hard to go to hardly any yard, overnight. Believe me, I know. It's never too late to make the changes you yearn for. Let me know and we might buy your lovely house. We're considering a move to TV. Then we all can be happy. Lol!
