You can use melodyne to boost the volume of quiet notes. (Or you can automate the bass volume in your DAW.) That would probably produce a better result than relying entirely on compression to even it out.

Hey, thanks for the tip! I haven't tried that with Melodyne.

Your opening sentence is that you were with a production student and you had to record bass guitr. The remainder of the video was basically how to correct terrible production decisions. The repair advice in itself is all solid advice but a producer should have spotted all of those and it should never have been allowed to get to that stage. Teaching a would be producer that you can record whatever you want and fix it up later is the road to a terrible producer who will only achieve average, at best, finished songs.

Hi Paul, I understand your point. I also totally agree that it's best to get the best possible sound instead of fixing it later. This was a scratch track we did for the bass. So I decided to make it into a video for educational purposes.

Man, the tip number 1 I hated how you put. Want a in tune bass? Send to a luthier and tune it. But, I admit it might be a nice thing if you wanna go experimental

Yeah I agree. Best to get a good sound first. Helpful though if you need to tune it later.

Musician wasn’t playing consistently, so we fixed it afterwards. Typical. 🤦 Remember when people really knew how to play? Pepperidge farms remembers
