As an indonesian, i disagree as well. Condensed milk is best served with bread ot blin as a snack, blyat... Or mix it with hot water and you have milk... Or mix it with coffee and you have cafe latte... It's the most versatile snack ever.

Drinking condensed milk straight from the tube (key word: tube, nobody attempts to drink from the canned version), used to be quite common in Europe, so why wouldn't it be in Russia? It was even one of the serving suggestions on the box, believe it or not. I'll see if I can find a picture of the old style packaging (and edit it in when I do).
You should do more research about other cultures before making a video like that. First of all this guy in red is disgusting. He is making me hate Irish. Joking. Love Irish people... except this one. Second, condensed milk is not a snack it's a sweet sauce for pancakes, baking. It's like drinking ketchup.
And why they eat bologna with nothing. Give them bread, cheese, salad. It's better in sandwiches.
I know canned herring is too much for you guys. But in this case it's all about serving: a pint of beer or glass of vodka, slice of bread, fresh onion. And you could feel it. Belive me nobody even in Russia eat just herring.

I'm real late but wanted to mention, in Pennsylvania, we have huge communities of Amish, Mennonite, and authentic German/Amish here all throughout our state. They drink condensed milk. Some people really enjoy it. I'm 1/2 Russian and no, it's not my favorite but I have had it straight from the can when visiting with family, I was happy if it was cold! That aside, I don't know anyone else. But the herring? You're 100% spot on there!
Moloko works as a spreadable on bread as well and some people drink it with their coffee even in the West, surprised they've never seen it in a grocery store

The drink, in the beginning, is actually from Latvia "Senču Kvass". Russians obviously do have kvass, but this bottle, in particular, was not Russian.

Where did you manage to find so many adults that have never heard of condensed milk? Its an extremely common ingredient in the UK and Ireland! Its clearly not drinkable like that, at most you'd use it in tea as a milk and sugar replacement, which was especially common during the war.

In Russia I grew up eating it with blini and sometimes just by itself with a spoon while drinking hot tea. Mom would also put the can in water and carefully boil it until it became more of a caramel almost. You had to be very careful though or it would explode.

Kvasa and Baykal are 2 different things. Baykal is soda with herbs flavour and kvas(propper name of the drink) is fermented drink made from rye bread. And the best way to ead herring is to chop some spring onion (or plain one) on top and sprinkle it with sunflower oil (non-refined is the best choice) and lemon juice

1. I'll give you that kvas is an acquired taste.
2. Condensed milk is used for baking, sweets and for your tea.
3. Doctor's bologna is meant to be a sandwich meat or something you throw into the pan with your eggs.
4. Pickled herring is meant to be eaten with dark rye bread, boiled potatoes fresh out of the pot and finely chopped green onions. (Vodka optional)

1) Kvas is a strange strange carbonated drink, it's made by fermenting wheat bread. It's actually made for people who work at monasteries, since they're not allowed alcoholic beverages. I'll drink Kvas only when I get a craving for it, but its nothing close to pepsi or coke haha
2) COME ON WHO DRINKS CONDENSED MILK??? The closest I get to that is if I dilute it with water, or dip a baguette in it as a dessert. Way too sugary to just drink like that. You could boil the can (unopened) for a few hours, and it turns into rich caramel for cake fillings and stuff.
3) Doktorskaya is good when its cut thin and inside a sandwich with something else (greens? onions? whatever). OR you can dice it up and fry it with eggs for a hearty breakfast :D
4) To this day, I cannot stomach canned herring. I just don't like fish, but the proper way to eat this is with sliced onions and cooked potato. It's flavor is way too strong on its own.
5) Those chocolates are kinda gross tbh. Nothing matches up with toblerone or other germanic/belgian chocolates.

I may be biased but I'd say yes. American ones taste a bit chalky to me, kind of like dehydrated milk powder. Russian tastes a bit more of natural dairy, albeit extremely sweet.
But may also depend on brand.
For instance that blue packaging it came in in the video is the same one it had in USSR, but it also used to indicate that it was made according to certain criteria (called GOST), kind of like an organic label on food in the US. But nowadays many companies use the exact same packaging for marketing but aren't required to adhere to the same GOST standards. So there may be duds here and there.
There are two types of condensed milk here in the US. What they were drinking would be called "Sweetened Condensed Milk, " while plain condensed milk is bland and somewhat thick like cheap cream.
Russian version is really sweet and tastes better than american
