    'Dog Eat Dog' - Warrant was a top release for me. The songs were very different, almost experimental. 'April 2031' and 'Andy Warhol Was Right' made you sit up and say "whoooah...what?"!! 'The Bitter Pill' has opera on it!!! Production of the album was superb! I think Dog Eat Dog still holds up and from the heavy 'Machine Gun' to the last track 'Sad Theresa', there is not one bad track on the whole CD!!
    Oh and by the way, April 2031 is only 10 years off!!!

    Hold Your Fire by Firehouse is sounding really good. I'm not a Glam/Hair metal expert but i have listen to it and i must say i like the album. Outstanding riffing and an excellent vocal performance. The tune Talk To The Town is a typical Ace Frehley song. The great riffing could be of him.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Firehouse was an above average band in the genre. If they had come out earlier they would have been part of the top tier of 80’s rock bands. Still they did pretty well and made a nice mark for themselves and think this 2nd album shows they were no one hit wonders.

    The early 90's a ton of bands from that era put out their best work...it just didn't do well commercially because of the genre trends that wouldn't give it a chance.
    Motley Crue-self titled John Corbai, their best album, amazingly produced and heavy!
    Poison-Native Tongue- Two words Ritchie Kotzen!
    Warrant-Dog Eat Dog- this is the band's best and sadly overlooked.
    King's X-Dogman- these guys were doing grunge before it was a thing.
    Stryper-Against the Law-This should have taken them to the next level.
    Skid Row-Subhuman Race-This was a modern/grunge masterpiece.

      @BrendonSnyder  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The singer of Steelheart actually sang for the reunited line-up of The Doors but by that point they were in many law suits and had to play under the name D21C which stood for Doors Of The 21st Century. I probably listen to Dog Eat Dog more than any other of Warrant’s albums simply because it wasn’t worn out by radio and MTV.

      There is always one of you who want to try and redefine things. I’m 44 and lived through it as well and the term Glam Metal was absolutely used at least by 1989....it’s in tons of publications like Metal Edge, Rip Magazine and Karrang. I appreciate your opinion and I wish there was a better term. Bottom line it’s a term that everyone knows what I mean when I use it. That’s why I’m fine with qualifying under Glam Metal and Hair Bands. But thanks for your input.

      Interesting as the only thing I don’t like about Water is the David Bowie cover. Not because I don’t like David Bowie or they didn’t do a good job, just that the song is too recognizable and popular as a David Bowie song. I would have preferred it moved to later in the album or better that they had picked a less prominent song. But i agree Water is a great album and second for me as well.

    you are so right there was many great bands and albums still going at this time, it was all down to the media , press and industry wanting a new sound and direction so they could extract more money from the youth, who did not seem to have a direction so were lead down the road of this new movement. But saying that away from the grunge sound many a good band could be found under the radar you just had to dig a little deeper, and as we know music is a very subjective media for which we need to be thankful.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jane! Yeah I don’t put it all on the backs of grunge musicians for killing of glam/hair metal. There were so many good bands that continued well into 1993 and 1994. By this point a number of the big bands from 1990 and 1991 from before grunge were trying to put out follow-up albums hoping that enough time had passed they could release a new album and they would still be taken seriously. We now know that didn’t work out for most bands. But so many good albums flew under the radar at the time most people missed out.

    The only album I have out of the bunch is Damn Yankees. I did see Warrant, Slaughter and Firehouse perform though and actually met Slaughter and Firehouse. The singer for Warrant was a total drunken fool at the time (can't recall his name) and seemed to be trying really hard to be something he wasn't quite able to pull off. He died not too long after that. I preferred Slaughter to Firehouse musically although they weren't my musical thing. Firehouse really seemed to be a nice bunch of guys, Slaughter was a different type of animal. At least that's the vibe I got. I had trouble with the music of that era because there was so much stylistic similarity, not enough variety. Just personal opinion.

      I saw Slaughter open for Poison in 1991 and they were fantastic. Never had the fortune to meet any of the bands you mentioned. But even without meeting the guys in Firehouse they all really seem like they are good guys and would be pretty cool to meet. For me probably because I came up during that era is why it clicked more for me. But I agree there was a lot of similarity in both bands and style at the time.

But still, if I said to some young kid the name Great White, it wouldn’t mean anything. But if I say they were a hair band, they kid immediately know the era, timeframe and sound. Why are some band considered GLAM metal or hair bands.

    Why are those bands considered hair or glam.
    Is it only do to the time period they broke threw.

    • @BrendonSnyder
      @BrendonSnyder  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t consider GNR glam but they did come from the same era and started out that way in 1986. Skid Row and their first album was IMO glam. They shed it pretty quick and continued to on the next two albums. What makes something glam is both sound and appearance. The big hair, flashy outfits, sometimes make-up, sounding with big guitars, layered production, big choruses and gang style vocals all contribute to being glam. But ultimately it comes down to song type and structure, dirty sleazy fun party rock is the archetypal glam song.
