I am on 30 acres although I am not a farmer at all. Last year I got chickens. This year I decided to plant a garden. 50’x30’ in my front yard. I have spent the last 6 years in wheelchair and God has given me the ability to walk again. I can’t walk far but I am gardening.
@@anniemcelroy2812 if you seen me planting you have to laugh. I was basically army crawling while planting onions and potatoes. I was laughing so much. When you want something you will figure out how to do it. I was learning how to cook from scratch when it happened and I could no longer stand up at the kitchen counter. So I pulled out the electric skillet and the crockpot and instant pot and the big toaster oven, the went to the kitchen table and that became my kitchen. I could cook meals from there while sitting in a chair. I also learned how to knead dough in a very large bowl on my lap. Even now that is my favorite way to knead it. It is so much easier and the mess is only in the bowl!
@@orlenelorenzo6360 thank you. God has don’t miraculously things in my life. He is the rock that I cling to and I know he has the full power over everything.
So glad for you! Be aware of how you talk to yourself, though. Put "I can walk short distances" in the place of "I can't walk far". It may not seem to make much difference but I believe that over time it really does.
Danville, Va. I'm a 63 year old widow growing my 1st garden on a small rental property in buckets, barrels and containers. So far I have potatoes, onions, carrots, radishes, green beans, swiss chard, cucumbers, butternut and zucchini squash planted. Next I'll be planting tomatoes, salad mix lettuce, beets and herbs. As I watch more videos and learn new things, I'm so thankful to God for the knowledge and the ability to try them. Thank you for the inspiration and the instructions you give to us. God bless your beautiful family and your Homestead ❤❤❤
Find a smaller town in the United States and I will be surprised. We live in Downey Iowa. Just prepped our land and planted half the garden and got 8 chick's for egg laying. Bees might be next. Cheers
I am in Salisbury, NC and have a little over an acre. Last year, I started two small 4x10 raised gardens and failed miserably! We harvested about 4 tomatoes and 6 green peas and 10 green beans! This year, I have grown that to another 4 (so a total of 6) raised beds, plus 60 10 gallon grow bags and 4 tower gardens. My potatoes, peas, beans, tomatoes, cabbage, corn, etc are thriving. I spent most of the winter doing research on gardening and learning to grow. I am raising my 2 grandchildren. We homeschool. Part of our lessons have including working in that garden and learning the importance of growing food. I am working on getting my husband onboard with having chickens. This video did my heart good. I love it when the two of you sit down and have these conversations, but this video felt like you were talking directly to my heart. Thank you!! God bless you and your family.
I salute you in that you have been able to juggle homeschooling and homesteading. I homeschooled three sons for the past 20 years. It was a full time job for me. I’m baking bread again and have a container garden. I’ve been stockpiling for 20 years and have had to rely on it in hard times. I wish I had some land, some chickens and a bigger garden but my husband prefers our neighborhood lot. So I’m a wannabe homesteader. I grew up on one and watched my family raise cows, rabbits, huge gardens and canned or froze our foods and sewed our clothes.
I'm from Puerto Rico. Temperature has been between high 80's and 90's some days we've reached the 100 mark and it's only spring. This summer is going to be really 🔥🥵
Western Ky. This is the first year I have started seeds. We added 6 more raised beds and we now have 6 hens. My husband and I are in our mid 50’s and everything feels new and exciting with this lifestyle change. We are so happy that God set this motion in our hearts.
My husband and I moved from WA (my home state), to AR (his home state). It’s a huge transition for me to go from the city/urban area to the country. We got chickens for laying in March, and planted our garden yesterday. It’s all new to us. I’ve never lived in a house before, basically born and raised in apartments, so I’ve never even had a yard ever. And now we have three acres!
This is our second year doing meat birds, our first year doing two batches. Our first year doing a big garden at our farm in southern Illinois. 🤞🏼This will be our first year pressure canning. Planning to can some chicken meat. We aren’t raising it, but first time purchasing half a beef from a local farm. And we’re NOT young!! 62 and 64! So all of you young people….no excuses!! 😉
We're on 3.5 acres in the lovely, tiny town of Relevant, France. We've been gardening and keeping chickens for over 10 years, but just started raising and butchering our own turkeys, geese and (this fall) lambs. We're not looking forward to doing the lambs, but we're really committed to raising as much of our own meat as we can. Thanks for all you share with all of us!
I’m from Forney, Texas! Im 65 and live in a housing addition. This is my first time to plant a little garden and taught myself to pressure can! Raised beds.
You guys are so full of energy and commitment, its like a breath of fresh air and gives me encouragement to get myself more organised. We have grown and preserved for years, but gradually paid work took over life. Now we are retired and finding our way back to a simpler life again. The old fashioned ways of doing lots of life stuff are so fulfilling, as well as very necessary right now. As long as you are happy with the roles you choose and value what each other do, that is the most important thing. In our household my husband's health restricts some of what he can do, so he tends to take care of all the laundry and the dishes, is a great cook and we share our strength to work in the garden and on the firewood tasks. Your children may not do loads of activities outside the home, but goodness are they equipped with amazing life skills and their talents have been nurtured and achievements celebrated and they are clearly really confident and sociable.
Hello there! Just wanted to send a simple message and thank you for sharing your sweet family with us! My husband and I are raising baby chicks for the first time 😊 our son shared 5 babies with us. We have a backyard garden with 5 raised beds and two little plots with corn, green beans and cucumbers for now. Learning something new all the time. God bless you all ~ from our little farm in Central Alabama, Diane & Wade
Hunt, NY...we have a sweet homestead, growing most of our own meat and foods and preserving what we grow. That being said, thank you for encouraging faith, hope and simplicity to those online and around you physically, without promoting fear and distress. Love your channel...
Tiplersville,Mississippi-When Josh was speaking about the mom’s role and value in the family, I just melted. You guys are so sweet!❤️ I can identify with y’all on so many levels. Thank you for shining the Light that’s in you.💕
Charlotte, NC. We’ve always lived a simple life and have lots of faith. Y’all are so natural and down to earth. It’s beautiful to watch your entire family share what you have learned so generously and humbly. Thanks for being a light and sharing your love.
Ontario, Canada - 2 years ago I planted a cherry tomato plant in my suburban backyard. I was hooked and now I have multiple garden beds and I’m participating in a community garden. I hired a master gardener (my person lol) to teach me how to start seeds and how to start a full garden. I’m now passionate about preserving food through dehydrating, freezing and just got a pressure canner. Your channel is very helpful…keep it up!
I grew up canning and gardening. I gladly gave the gardening over to my dad and then my brothers . Now my dad and one brother is gone . They had the green thumb. This year my oldest brother and I are growing the garden and working our way through the garden part . My love is canning , cooking and baking. I'm happiest in my kitchen. . I am 53 and live in parkersburg wv .. I hope next years garden is better than this past summer . We had so much rain . Nothing did well .
You make me smile. We took care of my dad. He had Alzheimers and when his mind started slipping he couldn't remember some of his great grandchildren by name. So he called them "my people". At a birthday party he decided all the kids in attendance were his people. It is a fond memory we have of him. We lost him in March of 2019. Thank you for the smile.❤
Hi kids! We're from outside Sacramento Ca. very near Fair Oaks in Carmichael. We live on a dead end street across from a nature grove. We would love to live in the country and we tried once. We moved to Tennessee but just couldn't be separated from family here so we came back. We are thankful that we don't live in a busy area here. We are grandparents of 4 boys, ages 18, 10, 7, and 5. We take care of our boys while their parents work. They stay busy playing sports, soccer, football.baseball. They live in Lincoln, Ca. about 30 minutes from us. We have a big garden every year and they love to help with it. They especially like harvesting. Love watching your family videos! Take care and have fun on that wonderful homestead you live on. ❤ Grandma Patsy in Ca.
Love this discussion, especially from an older persons perspective. The best time to build infrastructure needed for your farm is when you are younger then you can use your time for gardens and animals, and putting up food. If older when starting this, either find a place with all is ready, or you have to hire it. We started here 16 years ago so as we age, we have less to do and can trade food for help. Skills improve with practice saving time. Today I made mostly seedless blackberry jam and it was the easiest yet. I am now learning even more new skills that are fun to me and so rewarding. Best is that the food we grow and prepare is amazing!
This year my husband and I added chickens, ducks and turkeys. We have also added apples, blueberries, blackberries, and grapes to our gardening. This will be my first year canning and dehydrating foods. We usually just enjoy our garden in the summer and whatever we can freeze.
I love your open hearts for people. Kind hearts and words encourage and heal. And help to bring out the best in others. Blessings of His strength and energy and peace
Hi, Dayton ohio area...OH MY GOODNESS. THANK YOU for saying that doing the homestead life with Littles around is hard, but in a physical sense and mental sense. We had a full fledged mini farm and beautiful garden BEFORE KIDS and I now have a 6 and 2 year old and is VERY difficult accomplishing the smallest of tasks. But I do love this season still and I know I'll miss it when it's past me, so I have to remind myself over and over and over that I can only do so much right now and I need to make things simple and enjoy my babies in the moment.
Last year I started raising quail and incubating eggs. I also started homeschooling. This year I will be starting an herb garden. That I'm very excited about. Also starting my own fruit and berry trees. I want to start exploring herbalism and ways to treat minor health issues with home remedies. I just started water glassing my quail eggs to see how long they will preserve. My goal at the end of our growing season is to seed save.
Hoyt, Kansas.. Small little town outside of Topeka, Kansas. When my children were young we did gardening and canning. But now all my kids are grown. So a 62 year old don't do to much gardening now.. I do more large tubs garden. Got to have fresh tomatoes, peppers and radishes. God Bless you all. Wish I had these video's back in the day. You have great ideals. Grew up on small farm. Large garden, old pressure cook canning, chickens for meat and eggs > we pulled the chickens heads off and let them flop in the yard < , Raised rabbits for meat.
We are a small homeschooling family in the suburbs in NE PA. I’ve done water bath canning this year, purchased but nervous about the PC. We’ve put a lot of stuff back and that gives a sense of peace. Lately I’ve been baking homemade bread and following an Amish cookbook since the recipes have so few ingredients and tend to be simpler. That’s a goal of mine.
I’m in my 60’s and grew up in a small town in south Louisiana both of my grandparents lived in the country we learned a lot from them I have tomatoes peppers cucumbers and herbs in food grade buckets we harvested our first tomato in the beginning of may I have always been into prepping and stocking up
We are on one acre in a neighborhood. We started last year with 8 eggs chickens and a garden. This year we branched out to 20 meat chickens as well and expanded the garden.
I loved when you said that you love spending time together. Our oldest son doesn’t live in the same city we do, however he has work that brings him here. A coworker said he could rent a room with him, and our son said NO I enjoy spending time with my family
I love this so much. Our daughter is 3 hours away & our son is on the other side of the country. He's in the military & tries to get back for Christmas each year. Our daughter doesn't have a lot of gas money so she will visit 2-3x a year & we drive down to see her around the same. I miss them a lot.
Lincoln NE…. We live on a corner house with a lot & a half approximately. I started a garden in a 3’ by 5’ raised bed about 3 or 4 years ago with strawberries, carrots, peppers and sugar snap peas. Most of it barely grew but now I’ve expanded to around 30’ by 15’ tilled garden with a raised bed full of strawberries and a raspberry & blueberry bush in containers. This years goal is to plant onions (new to me), plus plenty of other items I’ve found success with in past years (sweet potatoes, cucumbers, peppers, jalapeños, watermelon, potatoes, tomatoes, beans, etc) looking forward to learning canning this summer. Still working on convincing the husband we need chickens and fruit trees
Greetings from a farm wife and mom in Manhattan, MT! I just love all your videos and your family is beautiful! My hubby and I both grew up all our lives in agriculture and have raised our 4, now grown, sons in it. We’re both in our late 40s, but even with a lifetime of experience in this lifestyle, we’re both STILL learning. Every year has its own blessings and challenges. I am learning so much from your videos as well, so thank you!
I'm from Town of Niagara , NY. Its a suburb of Niagara Falls New York. We have a little vegetable garden in my townhouse wear my flowers air conditioner and deck. I've been vacuum sealing my produce and my meat. Dabbled in a little dehydrating jerky. Still learning how to can certain things. Just enjoy doing just a little bit of this.
we live in Long Point in central illinois and plan on coming to your farm one day this summer!!!We just started chickens in March. Took me months to talk my husband into it now he loves them. Man do we enjoy them and all the adventures they bring. Looking forward to eggs to share with our kids and neighbors. Also we are putting a big garden this year for the first time in probably 30 years. We are so like minded with you and so many others who want to live a simpler, old fashioned life where we are not so reliant on others. I feels so good to do the work and see the results. Some not so good but we are learning!!! Thank you so much for sharing with us
Just starting our homestead on 22 acres in Pleasant Hill/Creswell, Oregon. Found your channel about 6 months ago and am so blessed by all your info you share. God bless you guys!
East coast Canada here, I have always “prepped” to a degree and pickled, this year I started canning and have to say I am addicted!! I love eating dinner “out of my garden”, we have had raised beds for many years and now instead of freezing I can can!!
Hello from Swindon Wiltshire in the UK, we have around 70* degs at the moment but it won’t last, we had one day of rain last months so the ground is so dry, I’ve been planting/sowing like crazy ready for the madness ahead, everything has gone up in price including fuel/gas, it’s the highest it has ever been and everything is set to get worse, animal feed has also gone up by at least 1/4 which is making farmers sell their stocks and quit, especially chicken farmers, we have 6 ex battery hens at the moment but can’t get anymore as we like in a large town, but they are doing well, love your videos, keep them coming,
I am from Abilene Texas and it's going to be 101 degrees this weekend. I have been growing fruit trees here on 1 1/2 acres (around 100 from cuttings and tiny seedlings). We have been in a drought but watering everyday and praying for more rain. I have been dehydrating and freezing leftover veggies and fruits. I also have chickens and ducks and working on finding quail to raise.
Hi! We are in South Bend, IN We are empty nesters on 2plus acres. I was grew up on a farm. Husband was not. I was 1 of 6 kids we were taught to be self sufficient. Husband was a “Leave It to Beaver”kid. 🤔Sooo. I am the lone keeper. My storage room is becoming well stocked. I have always kept a good pantry as my mom and grandma taught us. Thanks for your teamwork teaching!!❤️ Happy Mothers Day!!
Linden, California - 1/2 acre of land. I’ve had a garden all my adult life. At 60, Now retired and it’s just me and the hubby the garden is smaller. I’m now using 4 x 12 beds and containers instead of the large garden. I’ve always water bath canned and now know how to pressure can. Wanted to learn a lot of the old fashioned ways because of the last two years and being home bored and wanting to learn. Got chickens two years ago for eggs. No meat birds. Learned to make bread. I’ve researched and found local sources for raw milk and beef. I try to buy local as much as possible. It’s hard to adjust the quantities of the garden since there’s only two of us instead of 5. But when I have extra I just share with family and friends. And many of my friends do the same with us. I just try to be less of a consumer and more self sufficient. And it really is a better way of life. Keep doing what your doing, love your videos!
This is so great! Southwest MI here. Not many people I know agree nor have this mindset you speak of, especially during these times. I find myself getting stuck often not knowing where to go next, so thanks for the encouragement! May the Lord continue to use and bless you and your family. So encouraging!
We have 5 acres in Ephrata, WA. We have 3 Aussie dogs, 4 cats and 11 chickens. We have a nice size garden and fruit trees. I love watching your videos and learning new things from you all!
You are so accurate on the skills you are giving your children. Our children have been given jobs over others because of their work ethic from working as a family on our farm. You are giving your children such a blessing!
Chantilly, VA - We are starting our third year of gardening. We live in a subdivision which prohibits large gardens but are happy with our raised beds. Tomatoes, squash, green beans, peppers, cucumbers and even a couple of blueberry bushes. It's not a lot, but enough for the two of us and plenty to share with neighbors. Thank you for putting together such wonderful videos and for your peaceful, calm, godly approach to being prepared for the ups and downs of life! ❤️
Hi from Grand Chute WI. Our local YMCA, Greenville WI has chicks in the 4K classroom. 5 just hatched this week. So exciting. The teacher is so wonderful, she is teaching and gardening with the school-age daycare kids. They are responsible for the garden and selling in their Farmers Market to help pay for outdoor toys.
Albany/Corvallis Oregon...we are a retired couple, living on 2 1/3 acres of weeds🤭. We have about 10 raised beds and maybe a dozen fruit trees so far. Oh, we also have a steer to eat down the grass in our pasture. Funny...we don't eat meat so the steer will probably go to auction soon. I would love to get chickens again if I could sell their eggs. I plan to keep gardening for as long as I am able!!! I love watching your young family working together on your homestead. I wish that I had gotten my kids involved in homesteading when they lived at home. Hopefully our grandkids will enjoy helping out when they are a little older. God bless you all❤️
I’m 65 and just started container gardening a few weeks ago. I started with plants I purchased at the garden store (two tomatoes, a pepper and wax bean plants). This last week of 100° weather is not helping. I finally moved them to my covered patio this morning to get them out of the direct burning sun. They still get sun in the early morning and late afternoon when I move them to the other side of the patio. Something has eaten most of the leaves of the wax bean, the other three look ok. The tomatoes had flowers but they dropped off. So this definitely is a learning year. I’m looking forward to fall and seeing what I can plant. Love your channel.
Murfreesboro, TN I have a acre that my family of 5 live on we can't raise chickens because we have foxes and coyotes that took all of my neighbors chickens but I am putting my garden in and I am doubling it this year. I have been stocking up the pantry since the pandemic started. We have grape vines, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, apple trees for fruits. Veggies we will be growing everything sweet potato, potato, onion, garlic, carrots, radishes, peas, green beans, zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, cucumbers, eggplant. I am sure I am missing some things but I told my daughter that she couldn't grow flowers this year I told her were growing only things we can eat so she is growing herbs. I am on my 3rd or 4th year of gardening first year didn't get much but every year I expand a little more. I wanted to put pear trees in this year but I haven't been able to find trees that I liked I have found bosc pear trees but I don't like that variety so we will see. But I am learning to can and learning to dehydrate, I have also learned to bake bread and freezing eggs because they are getting expensive I am doing everything I can to put away more stretch out the food without people being miserable.
We are new to prepping we started in February this year since February We have started a garden I learned how to can food with pressure canner and dehydrate food. We have raised chickens for a few years now. We live in SWFL.
Greetings from Northern Va! I have canned over 35 pounds of meat for the first time this year! I’ve also dehydrated veggies and I can’t tell the difference between the ones I bought. Got my vegetables planted, so we’ll see how that goes-I’m still struggling there! But, I stay encouraged, thanks to channels like yours! I appreciate all you do!
Celeste, TX, we have 2 acres we bought in March. We now have chicks and turkeys in the brooder and a pig that a friend gave us. We have raised beds right now until we can get our tiller fixed this weekend. We also homeschool and I agree, not doing extracurricular activities saved us so much money and time! The kids are so happy here at home anyway ❤️
Been retired for 3 months. Have sold the bed in spare bedroom, and bought a large storage cabinet for extra food. We have always done food storage and have kicked it up. We always buy extra of sale items, and rotate by expiration dates. Will have a small garden this year for fresh produce. Wanting to learn to pressure can this year so I can have our homemade chili and vegetable soup available anytime. We use our clothesline to cut electric use and consolidate all banking, groceries and errands to one trip to save gas. Agree to shutting down media that feed the fear frenzy. When one is prepared there is no need to fear! Love watching your videos from Arcola IL.❤
Love your videos, because they are so educational about life. I live in Pretoria, South Africa, in a complex within a gated community. We used to live on a farm, which I still miss, but it got to a point where we were not safe anymore. I still miss my garden, animals and everything that makes farm life so enjoyable, even hard work!! Keep up with all your projects and enjoy the coming summer, it is getting colder here, winter has arrived
Hi guys. We are in rural Illinois near Milan. I have been gardening and preserving for over 40 years. It was not called homesteading or even prepping. This kept our food costs low. Once we moved to the country, we added a small amount of livestock. We also started lots of fruit trees and bushes. Now that we are empty nesters, our food preserving has changed. I still can and freeze everything we grow but I don’t can as much. We no longer do livestock, but we a buy from our local farmer. I have hydroponic planters where I grow leaf lettuce. I also have an indoor herb garden.
Prairie Village, KS here :) Living in the suburbs and learning all I can about gardening while I dream of more land with animals and a huge garden. As a single mom with 5 kids it makes me nervous to think about having to do most things by myself. I always see these channels with husbands working with the animals and fixing equipment and putting up fences and it makes me question my abilities. My oldest son (15 now and no desire to live off the land) will probably be out of the house by the time I get the land I want and my other ones are 10 and under now so not sure they can handle the heavy lifting. But I was raised by a strong single mother who remodeled an entire house she bought us and I know I’m capable of big things, just question it as I get older. This is only my second year at attempting to garden. Our city recently allowed chickens so maybe that’s a step I can take! I love all the knowledge I get from you all :)
Neither our kids nor my husband are truly into homesteading and I pretty much do all the work from animal husbandry, to gardening, to processing/canning, to repairs and painting by myself. I move the hay bails as well as the 50lbs feeding bags and I think you underestimate how much a woman can do if her heart and mind are set on it. Yes, it can be challenging, frustrating, and heart-breaking but you will come up with ideas to make things easier and work for you! If this is your dream, go for it and make it work the Kelly way😘🥰 - you can do it; just start small so you won't get overwhelmed! P.S.: Love Lawrence and KC!
@@andreamortimer2610 thank you for the inspiration! I wish there were single women farmsteaders on TH-cam or even like in your situation where you do the majority of the work. Maybe there are and I just haven’t found them. But they probably wouldn’t have time to make content 😂 I always see these women who dream of a new chicken coop or a fabulous greenhouse and their husbands just build it without complaint. Not sure where they find these men but I hope they know how lucky they are to have them. I still love watching them though and learning things so that when I do have my piece of paradise I can make the most of it!
@@kellynation6160 You know, we are only looking in from the outside and never get to see their whole family challenges ... I'm sure there are plenty of complaints and arguments that go back and forth till an agreement is reached. Remember, we only get to watch the edited versions ... 😏 When I fell in love with my husband, it was BECAUSE he was not a mirror image of my dreams and aspirations; it was BECAUSE he would challenge my opinions and dreams. He has come around a lot in many ways but I don't want him to change for me; he wouldn't be the man I married anymore! We all have our very own perceptions of this world and what we consider to be right or wrong for us. I didn't follow into my parents' footsteps because I was curious about the world and wanted to travel and I'm glad they supported me to go and explore. It wasn't till I got married and we had kids that I started thinking more and more about the kind of world I would want to leave behind for them. Right now they have their own visions for their future, they enjoy and do appreciate the benefits coming from our little homestead, but for now, their path doesn't seem to be leading towards the type of self-reliance I crave. Yet they are independent, observant, and level-headed therefore no complaints 👍 I think you are doing the right thing for now: you are observing, learning, and working towards your dream! You go, girl! Your time will come, too!
My grandmother never had hot water when I was growing up I'm 50 I remember her boiling her water to put in my bath claw tub and she always hung out her laundry
Sedalia, Missouri. We live in a rental house and don't know how long we will be here so I am starting a container garden. We are looking for a house of our own, preferably with some land but are trusting in God to lead us where he wants us. I decided to start small and work my way up. I have never done container gardening before. We will see how it works out.
Just bought 21 chickens Saturday, very excited for this new venture. We've been gardening and canning for some years now. Live in South Central Minnesota
A favorite lesson I have heard and that is leading us on a time of transition and waiting (military) for our "forever home" is "Make your waiting room your classroom" (From Roots & Refuge). So we aren't waiting anymore. We are learning and living in the trial and error of backyard gardening & planning for chickens soon.
I'm in a small town near Champaign-Urbana, IL. I have not bought bread in 2022! This is new for me. I can't pinpoint exactly how I got here but I am no longer willing to pay for something I can do better and much cheaper myself. And before anyone feels pressure to do the same I am RETIRED. I have nothing but time. Those of you who have jobs or young children should buy your bread (unless kneading the dough is crucial to your mental health, in that case buy more socks and underwear so you don't have to do laundry as often). Also, I am planning to grow a few veg in containers this summer. Wish me luck. I've never been a gardener and I hate hot weather.
Such a good video with so much good information. I agree grow where you are. We live in a neighborhood but we garden. This year we will have a smaller garden for our grandsons to care for.(we only have boys, so I really enjoy watching your girls.) We are in our 70's now and need to make planter gardens so we don't have to bend down so much. ... We always visited our grandparents in Okla. every summer. I will never forget seeing my Mom come out into the yard, grab a chicken and ring its neck. I was a little girl and had never seen anything like that, but I ate it for dinner. It made me smile to hear you tell about your Grandma ringing the chickens neck.😃 Enjoy your videos! Grandma Patsy in Ca.
I’m from Australia , Victoria , Ballarat . We have always gone a summer veggie garden , but I’d give away a lot of food as I was too busy with work to learn how to preserve . Here you are not allowed to earn an income unless you are vacinated . So after loosing our careers on October 15 2021 , we have survives from my husbands hunting , fishing , our garden and food I would buy in bulk from a food co op over the last few years . During this time I have learnt how to preserve food . That’s my new thing . Water bathing and dehydrating and about to embark on pressure canning . I also have started planting our first winter crop in the garden and my husband and I are thinking about geting with chickens or quails
I'm in Las Vegas Nevada with temps 109 degrees. I enjoy your channel and bought a stock pot to bake your crusty artisan bread. The pot is heavy! I got mine in red which is beautiful.
Hi 👋🏽 I'm watching from The Bahamas 🇧🇸 love your channel. I started stocking up since last year and I've always had a small garden but when Covid started and my job closed for awhile, I extended my garden started a compost pile and planted more fruit trees since Hurricane Dorian took half of them. I watch a few Homestead channels and I must say you guys have given me inspiration to start canning different foods, I have always waterbath jams and jelly, but never food so that was my project for this year and I have already found a source for Chickens, I just need a home for them now 😁🖤
We're in Mid-Michigan. We got our meat birds (20) in 2 weeks ago. 1st time for us. Have 12 layers but we've had layers for 10 yrs now. 2 huge (for us anyways) garden. Going to try to store the potatoes, onions and carrots in crates this year🤞
Here in South East Maine. Started meat rabbits for the first time this spring and hopefully meat turkeys for the first time. This is our second year doing meat chickens.
I just started canning this year .. I built a greenhouse, and have 3 raised beds built so far .. and 3 potato bags started ! I’m in southern Michigan near Ohio border. So glad I found your channel !!
Convoy Ohio...first time watcher and subscriber. .graduating my youngest from homeschool next week. Now teaching my grandkids from my oldest son...3 of them in Pre-k, K and 1. Small 1.5 acres out in the country. Really working on gardening and increasing our canning skills. LOVE your channel. Thank u.
Checking in from Cuba, NY. Just found your channel not long ago and have been watching ever since and have binged on some of your old videos! Love the children playing their instruments! Our son, who just turned 21, is Autistic and he is self taught on the piano. Plays by ear! It’s amazing to hear. He’s not Bach or anything but it just shows me how his brain works! Super intelligent in math, science and computer designs.....but socially he’s more even with a 12 year old. I love seeing the world through his eyes!
We have been chicken farming for 3 years now. We raise meat chickens and laying hens. This is our first year putting in a garden. I have lots of seedlings in my house so I am hoping even if half of them produce I would be so happy! I can grow animals all day long. Keeping plants alive is a different story! Wish me luck!
Rockville indiana Have seen cool Temps and alot of rain. Yes next week is 70 and 80s no rain. I have got my pole beans, peas and potatoes planted.started this year. I am a senior by myself so I am doing container planting with my neighbor and we are going to can this year. She is doing the same. Peppers and zucchini will get planted this weekend. Happy Mothers day to you. Love your videos. Learn alot This is our first year.
Hi, from Janesville, Wi. We have lived in the city all our married life, 16 years. But have always had a nice garden. We can and preserve a lot of food for our family if 7, cook from scratch. We homeschool too. And it’s just amazing, you are right. Nothing like serving dinner in the middle of a Wisconsin winter with things from your pantry you grew. 💜 We dream of having 14 acres but while we wait for the Lord to move us we will keep gardening, preserving, trading and bartering for the things we can’t grow or raise our self.
Hi From Brisbane in Queensland Australia. We are in winter season at the moment but you just have to wear a jumper most days. We do not get snow here in this state, I love watching you blogs always so much to learn from you x
I am on a small farm of 10 acres in Beavercreek, Oregon! It's considered a Hamlet. I started homesteading last year, 2021 after a surgery, it's been a learning experience. We've added a green house, chickens, container garden (at this point), pressure and water bath canners, dehydrators, baking bread, waxing cheese, fermenting veggies, building my pantry and long term storage. I'm adding making my own yogurt and kombucha. Alot more to learn and just adding as I go with my full time job.
We have raised and processed many pigs through a local meat processing family. They are fantastic. We also processed one cow, and have purchased from them 2 other 1/2 cows for meat. We have had 8 sets of chickens for eggs and I am begging my hubby to do a 25 stock of meat chickens... It is only my hubby & I, but we have so much to be able to help others down the road.
From mid Missouri. We moved here 7 years ago from Illinois. We homeschool have a garden & chickens and we are learning new things all the time. Love your videos
We just have a 1/4 acre lot. We have a few things growing. Raspberries, Strawberries, Grapes, Apparatus, Rhubarb, and a small garden. Also 6 chickens. We all really enjoy every part of it 🙂
New subscriber! We live in the waiarapa, Wellington, New Zealand. Its Autumn here. I loved your idea of stocking at least a years worth of supplies. We got 9 chickens a couple years ago. Also about to start growing a vege garden. Just planted some olive trees which grow well were we are. We've already got bosenberry, raspberry ivory and grapes, lemon, lime and tangelo and a couple apple trees. Love what you guys are saying.
Very small town in central Illinois. My heart is to have some land and homestead, but for now, we're expanding our garden and doing what we can where we are
You can do it all right and then disaster. 30 year old Son died and my family has fallen apart. Im so glad I enjoyed every minute of them growing. Public school and college is a nightmare but I wasnt allowed to homeschool. Im watching the life I had and wont ever have again. Blessings to you and thanks for your videos.
Hi from California! We are from a small-town in central California called Waterford. Less than 10,000 people (that's small for us. lol), with even smaller neighboring towns. With a very small yard we have utilized growing so much vertically and not wasting space. This year we are growing more winter squashes so that we have a nice supply to last us through the winter months. We also have so many reasonably priced local resources (fresh milk, eggs, cheese, families that sell grass fed beef), that we haven't focused on raising animals yet. Gardening is my strength, so I'll stick with that. lol
My first this year is starting my tomatoes, peppers and squash from seed. Starts this year are nearly $5 so I feel I've saved money even though I have spent more expanding the garden beds. I "winter sowed" broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. I am very new to canning also. I referred to your chicken canning video and I am proud of my chicken and stock on a much smaller scale. Thank you!
Somerset, Ohio We are six years into the homesteading adventure and a suggestion to anyone just starting out, start today, with one project and add something new every year.. You can easily get overwhelmed if you jump in to too much at first..
I am on 30 acres although I am not a farmer at all. Last year I got chickens. This year I decided to plant a garden. 50’x30’ in my front yard. I have spent the last 6 years in wheelchair and God has given me the ability to walk again. I can’t walk far but I am gardening.
❤️❤️❤️
Wishing you the best Mindy. Have faith cause God is good. God bless you 💚🙏🤗
@@orlenelorenzo6360 thank you.
❤️❤️❤️
From Danville Va too ❤️ have raised beds started. Thinking of getting a few chickens
Find a smaller town in the United States and I will be surprised. We live in Downey Iowa. Just prepped our land and planted half the garden and got 8 chick's for egg laying. Bees might be next. Cheers
❤️❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️
Western Ky. This is the first year I have started seeds. We added 6 more raised beds and we now have 6 hens. My husband and I are in our mid 50’s and everything feels new and exciting with this lifestyle change. We are so happy that God set this motion in our hearts.
❤️❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️
We're on 3.5 acres in the lovely, tiny town of Relevant, France. We've been gardening and keeping chickens for over 10 years, but just started raising and butchering our own turkeys, geese and (this fall) lambs. We're not looking forward to doing the lambs, but we're really committed to raising as much of our own meat as we can. Thanks for all you share with all of us!
I’m from Forney, Texas! Im 65 and live in a housing addition. This is my first time to plant a little garden and taught myself to pressure can! Raised beds.
❤️❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️
Hello there! Just wanted to send a simple message and thank you for sharing your sweet family with us! My husband and I are raising baby chicks for the first time 😊 our son shared 5 babies with us. We have a backyard garden with 5 raised
beds and two little plots with corn, green beans and cucumbers for now.
❤️❤️❤️
We are in Cuba, NY. What big city are you close to? We are about 90 minutes from Buffalo.
Tiplersville,Mississippi-When Josh was speaking about the mom’s role and value in the family, I just melted. You guys are so sweet!❤️ I can identify with y’all on so many levels. Thank you for shining the Light that’s in you.💕
❤️❤️❤️

We have a quarter of an acre in a small town suburb, we put up 8 raised garden beds, 2 lettuce boxes, and just got 4 bantum chicks....so excited!!!!
Thank you for sharing! Blessings!
Started my second year garden in my backyard. Small but hopefully will be better than last year. I learn so much watching everyone on TH-cam.
❤️❤️❤️
Hoyt, Kansas.. Small little town outside of Topeka, Kansas. When my children were young we did gardening and canning. But now all my kids are grown. So a 62 year old don't do to much gardening now.. I do more large tubs garden. Got to have fresh tomatoes, peppers and radishes. God Bless you all. Wish I had these video's back in the day. You have great ideals.
Grew up on small farm. Large garden, old pressure cook canning, chickens for meat and eggs > we pulled the chickens heads off and let them flop in the yard < , Raised rabbits for meat.
❤️❤️❤️
We are a small homeschooling family in the suburbs in NE PA. I’ve done water bath canning this year, purchased but nervous about the PC. We’ve put a lot of stuff back and that gives a sense of peace. Lately I’ve been baking homemade bread and following an Amish cookbook since the recipes have so few ingredients and tend to be simpler. That’s a goal of mine.
I’m in my 60’s and grew up in a small town in south Louisiana both of my grandparents lived in the country we learned a lot from them I have tomatoes peppers cucumbers and herbs in food grade buckets we harvested our first tomato in the beginning of may I have always been into prepping and stocking up
I'm from the Mississippi gulf coast love your channel
❤️❤️❤️
We are on one acre in a neighborhood. We started last year with 8 eggs chickens and a garden. This year we branched out to 20 meat chickens as well and expanded the garden.
I loved when you said that you love spending time together. Our oldest son doesn’t live in the same city we do, however he has work that brings him here. A coworker said he could rent a room with him, and our son said NO I enjoy spending time with my family
❤️❤️❤️
Puyallup Wa, still cold and wet. Lucky if we get in the 60's right now.
❤️❤️❤️
we live in Long Point in central illinois and plan on coming to your farm one day this summer!!!We just started chickens in March. Thank you so much for sharing with us
❤️❤️❤️
Just starting our homestead on 22 acres in Pleasant Hill/Creswell, Oregon. Found your channel about 6 months ago and am so blessed by all your info you share. God bless you guys!
❤️❤️❤️
Hello fellow Oregonian! Congrats on the homestead!! Keep up the good work and know you aren't alone!
East coast Canada here, I have always “prepped” to a degree and pickled, this year I started canning and have to say I am addicted!! I love eating dinner “out of my garden”, we have had raised beds for many years and now instead of freezing I can can!!
❤️❤️❤️
Hello from Swindon Wiltshire in the UK, we have around 70* degs at the moment but it won’t last, we had one day of rain last months so the ground is so dry, I’ve been planting/sowing like crazy ready for the madness ahead, everything has gone up in price including fuel/gas, it’s the highest it has ever been and everything is set to get worse, animal feed has also gone up by at least 1/4 which is making farmers sell their stocks and quit, especially chicken farmers, we have 6 ex battery hens at the moment but can’t get anymore as we like in a large town, but they are doing well, love your videos, keep them coming,
Winter Haven Florida. This year I have just started milling my own wheat, making my own bread, and relearning skills from my youth. Love your channel!
Hello Linda
I am from Abilene Texas and it's going to be 101 degrees this weekend. I have been growing fruit trees here on 1 1/2 acres (around 100 from cuttings and tiny seedlings). We have been in a drought but watering everyday and praying for more rain. I have been dehydrating and freezing leftover veggies and fruits. I also have chickens and ducks and working on finding quail to raise.
❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for your teamwork teaching!!❤️
Happy Mothers Day!!
We have started raising chickens and small garden! I’m loving it!!
We are in Missouri. We started raising hair sheep and chickens this year.
We have 5 acres in Ephrata, WA. We have 3 Aussie dogs, 4 cats and 11 chickens. We have a nice size garden and fruit trees. I love watching your videos and learning new things from you all!
❤️❤️❤️
You are so accurate on the skills you are giving your children. Our children have been given jobs over others because of their work ethic from working as a family on our farm. You are giving your children such a blessing!
❤️❤️❤️
Chantilly, VA - We are starting our third year of gardening. We live in a subdivision which prohibits large gardens but are happy with our raised beds. Tomatoes, squash, green beans, peppers, cucumbers and even a couple of blueberry bushes. It's not a lot, but enough for the two of us and plenty to share with neighbors. Thank you for putting together such wonderful videos and for your peaceful, calm, godly approach to being prepared for the ups and downs of life! ❤️
❤️❤️❤️
Hi from Grand Chute WI. Our local YMCA, Greenville WI has chicks in the 4K classroom. 5 just hatched this week. So exciting. The teacher is so wonderful, she is teaching and gardening with the school-age daycare kids. They are responsible for the garden and selling in their Farmers Market to help pay for outdoor toys.
❤️❤️❤️
God bless you all❤️
❤️❤️❤️
This is Bev Miller from Vincennes Indiana love watching your you channel . I have learned a lot so far.
❤️❤️❤️
Yes...finding contentment at home is a beautiful thing!
❤️❤️❤️
My heart breaks for the farmers in South Africa. Much love to you all.

You know, we are only looking in from the outside and never get to see their whole family challenges ... I'm sure there are plenty of complaints and arguments that go back and forth till an agreement is reached. Remember, we only get to watch the edited versions ... 😏
When I fell in love with my husband, it was BECAUSE he was not a mirror image of my dreams and aspirations; it was BECAUSE he would challenge my opinions and dreams.
Yet they are independent, observant, and level-headed therefore no complaints 👍
I think you are doing the right thing for now: you are observing, learning, and working towards your dream! You go, girl! Your time will come, too!
My grandmother never had hot water when I was growing up I'm 50 I remember her boiling her water to put in my bath claw tub and she always hung out her laundry
❤️❤️❤️
I am in Brasilia, Brazil. Here it is sunny all year long!
Caledonia, Michigan- I love that all the kids have a part in your homestead and have their favorite specialties!

❤️❤️❤️
I just got baby chicks this year and I am learning how to gardening this year. I live in Richford Vermont

Hello from Ireland 🙋💚☘️🇮🇪

We are in Bloomington, IL. We have 5 boys. Very excited to follow and learn from you guys!

Going to try to store the potatoes, onions and carrots in crates this year🤞
❤️❤️❤️
Here in South East Maine. Started meat rabbits for the first time this spring and hopefully meat turkeys for the first time. This is our second year doing meat chickens.

Small 1.5 acres out in the country. Really working on gardening and increasing our canning skills. LOVE your channel. Thank u.
Welcome to the family! I'm so glad you found us ❤️❤️❤️
Checking in from Cuba, NY.
Welcome! So glad you found us!
We are in central Wyoming.

❤️❤️❤️
Hello Sonya
We have raised and processed many pigs through a local meat processing family. They are fantastic. We also processed one cow, and have purchased from them 2 other 1/2 cows for meat. We have had 8 sets of chickens for eggs and I am begging my hubby to do a 25 stock of meat chickens... It is only my hubby & I, but we have so much to be able to help others down the road.
From mid Missouri. We moved here 7 years ago from Illinois. We homeschool have a garden & chickens and we are learning new things all the time.
Love your videos
❤️❤️❤️

Hey, welcome! So glad you found us. ❤️❤️❤️
Very small town in central Illinois. My heart is to have some land and homestead, but for now, we're expanding our garden and doing what we can where we are

Gardening is my strength, so I'll stick with that. lol
I started a vegetable garden. I have about 50 or so plants. Definitely a great start, but the Florida heat does take a toll on the plants!
We watch from KY. I am going to be 90 in Aug. so I can't do things so I just watch everyone else and I love it.
❤️❤️❤️
My first this year is starting my tomatoes, peppers and squash from seed. Starts this year are nearly $5 so I feel I've saved money even though I have spent more expanding the garden beds. I "winter sowed" broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. I am very new to canning also. I referred to your chicken canning video and I am proud of my chicken and stock on a much smaller scale. Thank you!

We are six years into the homesteading adventure and a suggestion to anyone just starting out, start today, with one project and add something new every year..
You can easily get overwhelmed if you jump in to too much at first..
Yes❤️❤️❤️
