This is definitely "the other side of the Doors", so different from their commercial output. To really, truly appreciate what a phenomenal band they were, you have to take a deep dive into their albums. This one is sheer masterpiece, how it integrates the superior musicianship, Manzarek's keyboards, Dinsmore's drums, Krieger's guitar and the studio bass combined with Morrison's ineffable poetry. So many great album tracks like Celebration of the Lizard, Shaman's Blues, Waiting For The Sun, Not To Touch The Earth, really too many to list, heck just listen to the albums. Keep riding the Doors train bros, it will be a mind-blowing experience I promise.
What can you say about this, 'The Soft Parade'? Well, this is an amazing, cool song, I can hear a lot of influences such as blues, rock, funk, you name it by this incredible band, The Doors! It's interesting to think they were in existence for about eight years and in that time created a fantastic catalogue of music. One song you haven't reacted to yet, is one I remember so well as it was played a lot in the UK - it's 'Hello I Love you' from 1968, love that song! Great reaction as usual, guys, you take care of yourselves now, all the best and keep safe. 😊👍
Wow - so experimental! It takes you somewhere else with all the transitions and Jim's hypnotic vocals. Love the percussion. Interesting discussion guys. Thanks for the reaction!! გაუმარჯოს ქართულ დემოკრატიას.
I was raised in the Doors by my mom. She heard them in early 80s and they became her favorite right away. I was born in 86 and by 2 years old, I could point out a doors song on the radio. People Are Strange was always my favorite growing up, as well as Soul Kitchen, the Crystal Ship, and When the Music's Over. I'm my middle age, I can now say the Soft Parade is my favorite song of theirs. The End is high up there as well. Such an amazing array of music.
Now that you've passed through the Doors of Perception courtesy of the Jim's poetry, and Ray, Bobby and John's musical talents you can travel there at will for the rest of your lives. 🙂

Legend has it Jim was three sheets to the wind and half in the bag trying to put together the tracks on the Soft Parade LP. Still...it has heaps of mojo! Here are my three Doors suggestions in increasing complexity: 1. "Maggie M'Gill"---this one's dirty hillbilly blues, quick, and fun! 2. "Spanish Caravan"---vibe, vibe, VIBE! 3. "Celebration Of The Lizard"---better buckle up and wear a helmet!
my favorite Doors song and maybe my favorite song. The first half is so relaxing then u get that scratchy deep tone of Jims voice with the sped up tempo in the second half. Masterpiece
IMO this is their best song, so many changes and a killer bass, sounds like they're having fun. One of the best line " all our lives we sweat and save building for a shallow grave " too true
I, too, have been waiting for this one. It's so sonically interesting! George's observation that the one part was stylisticly similiar to Steely Dan had me smiling in agreement, and is likely a driving reason why it's one of my favorite songs by The Doors. Good Vibes!

Hi Jules, how are you doing? Haven't had a reaction from the guys for a few days, hopefully soon! We're still not out of the cold, wet weather here in Scotland.
