    Funny Fact: I had a liver transplant caused by a blood disorder similar to sickle cell. My Hematologist (blood doctor) was a student at USC in the 1960’s and a roommate of one of the Doors (either Robbie or John). As he told me, 4 of them went on a road trip to central California in a 2 seat Porsche so it was crowded. Somewhere on the road, in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, they stopped at a convenience store which also had live bait. Three of them bought soft drinks and snacks. Jim Morrison bought live crickets 🦗 in a matchbox type container. The four get back in the car and the crickets get loose in the crowded car!! They pulled over in the middle of nowhere to look for these crickets! Well, they found a few but then, Morrison was missing!! 😂😂😂 True story, according to my Doctor.

    The bass lines were created by Ray using a Fender Rhodes Piano Bass and the melody with a Vox Continental and this is what you would hear when they were live....however, when they recorded the album, Larry Knechtel ('The Wrecking Crew' and later 'Bread') played a Fender Precision Bass to overdub Ray's bass line to give it more prominence.

    Fantastic tune! Check out The Doors performing this on The Ed Sullivan Show. Jim had promised Ed and the censors that he wouldn't sing the line "Girl We Couldn't Get Much Higher", but ofcourse he sang it. The Doors were never invited back, but that was quite alright by them. Just really cool footage. Next? "Love Her Madly".

    A small correction: "You said heaven from 4 instruments" its only 3. Ray Manzarek is playing the bass parts on the keyboard with his left hand, while he plays the melody with his right hand.

    • @Mrjohnbigboy
      @Mrjohnbigboy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Really! I didn’t know that, it makes that fabulous keyboard playing even more impressive!

    • @splitimage137.
      @splitimage137. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not to nitpick, but: Manzarek is actually playing two separate instruments, a Fender Rhodes Bass on his left, and whichever model organ he was playing on his right. Add guitar and a drumset and you've indeed got four instruments.

    • @splitimage137.
      @splitimage137. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, and Martin Taylor said below that Wrecking Crew studio bassist Larry Knechtel overdubbed his bass part for the recording of the album. (Larry replaces Ray's bass part, maintaining still 4 instruments.) He also says that the organ is a Vox Continental.

    • @joelaugustine3418

  • @annheckenbach7358

    Bass line provided by Ray Manzarak, keyboard player, with a foot pedal on the organ. The Doors had no bass player, except occasionally, in the studio.

    • @davidhirsch5705
      @davidhirsch5705 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not true.
      They used a Bass Player in the studio.
      It never was a foot pedal. Ray played the bass lines with his left when they played live on a Rhodes Organ.
      Do your research before you write.

    Hi guys…..Helene here. Since you both seem to like psychedelic rock so much….you need to react to the granddaddy of all psychedelia…..In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida by the band Iron Butterfly. Back in 1968, BEFORE Meddle by Floyd,, psychedelia was mainly, at least for my crowd, The Doors, Hendrix, Country Joe and the Fish, The Moody Blues, allot of The Beatles music AND In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida. It’s long, but not quite as long as the live Dazed and Confused…..and believe me, it is a TRIP. George…it will most definitely “blow your mind”. 😜
