An upside-down flag is protected by the First Amendment and legislation for all citizens, including the wife of Justice Alito.
Her raising of the inverted flag occurred 3.5 years ago and is artificially being made an issue by the Dem cabal during a national election year. Why? To attack the SCOTUS. To deflect from the Dem cabal's criminal conspiracy of extreme election interference misusing the legal system to "Get Trump, his attorneys, campaign staff, and dozens if not hundreds of Republican attorneys.

Canon 1: A judge shall uphold the integrity and independence of the judiciary. Canon 2: A judge shall avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety in all of the judge's activities. Canon 3: A judge shall perform the duties of judicial office impartially and diligently.
The US Supreme Court's recently adopted code of judicial ethics (adopted in writing, but still not binding or enforceable) is very similar to the Code of Judicial Ethics that applies to all other federal judges in the United States. Note that Cannon 2 provides that a judge SHALL AVOID impropriety and the "appearance of impropriety in ALL OF THE JUDGE'S ACTIVITES." [Emphasis added]. That language--avoiding the mere appearance of impropriety inside and outside of court-- appears in several places in the code and runs as a theme throughout it. The whole point is that federal judges are supposed to appear fair and unbiased in all their public-facing activities--not revealing their personal preferences and biases so as to uphold the integrity of the judiciary, and the public's perception of the judiciary as fair and even-handed tribunals. Federal judges are essentially on display 24-7. All citizens of the USA know who these judges are, and thus it takes a particularly noble and disciplined person to serve as a federal judge. Apparently President George W. Bush thought Alito had those qualities...but he obviously got it wrong.
Frankly, a few decades ago, even the appearance of financial entanglements of these judges with the billionaire class would have likely impelled them to RESIGN from the bench. Alito and Thomas--they've already destroyed their personal legacies, and irreparably damaged that of the highest court in the land (not to mention some of their far-right, poorly reasoned decisions and recent court procedural decisions).
It goes with saying that history will not remember this court kindly--especially Thomas and Alito. I feel sorry for the law students who get stuck clerking for them...(no doubt they are thinking long & hard about whether they even want to do it!). Both of those men should absolutely recuse themselves from all issues dealing w/Trump and the attempted coup d'état. Their behavior is shocking, repugnant, and destructive....when their behavior should be above and beyond reproach.
To let anyone in your family fly the flag of the United States of American upside down for DAYS in the front of your home--is a clear violation of the Code of Judicial Ethics. It screams bias in favor of those who tired to overthrown the election. Mr. Alito let that flag fly for DAYS without bringing it down. This act alone should cause him to resign from his post on the high court. Shame on him and shame on Congress and us for tolerating this behavior. Do not believe Alito's First Amendment BS--he knew it was wrong...and that's why he's trying to blame it on his wife who sounds like a lot like Ginny Thomas.

On this occasion I disagree with representative Raskin. Time for recusal has long passed. In light of this admission of supporting a movement to upend US democracy, plus the blatant absence of judgement by Alito, resignation is the only valid option. Furthermore, Chief Justice Robert's should also step back in light of his inability to enforce just behavior by his justices.

There should be a judicial committee overseeing the ethics of the SCOTUS. Congress is the lawmaker, and they should make sure that the SCOTUS doesn't destroy the laws that guarantee some sort of legal equality for all Americans.

The term for a justice is set by the Constitution in the following text, found in Article III, Section I:
Justices "...shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour."
It says absolutely nothing about limiting their term to a specific time. To do so would require amending Article III. You're wrong.
@Abmotsad No it wouldn't. It just says that Judicial Branch members will hold their office during good behavior. Chief Justice is the only constitutionally specified office. Everything else is left up to Congress as far as the structure of the courts go. As long as they're still a federal judge somewhere, they haven't lost their office.

It isn't limited to ethics: the 14th Amendment cites ENGAGING IN insurrection. Alito didn't have to be attacking the Capital to engage in aiding and abetting the insurrection. Several of those convicted of sedition were outside the Capital during the attack. And they had weapons arsenals at the ready.

Alito prefaced his remarks by saying he was not concerned about the case before the coût, but if ….. then Alito went on to discuss purely hypotheticals (what ifs) situations in which plausible total immunity would be warranted.

Supreme Court Justice Alito is supposed to represent ALL people, staying out of politics, which is not what he is representing with an upside down flag, no matter his home or not.
The public has to remember that this Supreme Court is a court in which a Justice, who is still on that court, told a G.O.P. senator in 2020, the year of a presidential election, that he was thinking of leaving the court because he didn't make enough money, then Right Wing billionaires started befriending that Justice and giving him gifts, including a recreational vehicle costing more than a quarter of a million dollars. Buying his mother's home, renovating it, and letting her continue to live there rent-free for years. Paying for that justice's elaborate vacations.
Then came the 2000 presidential elections. Al Gore received 50,999,897 popular votes and George W. Bush received 50,456,002 popular votes. So Bush received 543,895 LESS than Gore, but the Supreme Court decided that Bush won!
It doesn't end there! Very briefly, another Justice currently on the Supreme Court had property listed for sale for two years, then when he was confirmed to the Court, he quickly got a buyer! That buyer is head of a law firm which frequently has cases before the Supreme Court; in fact they appeared before the Court in 22 cases in the years after that land deal!
Or how about the Justice, (Alito), whose wife has a deal leasing 160 acres of land to an energy company, for a percentage of the profits, and who has ruled against the EPA a number of times? Even reversing a law signed by President Obama to protect the environment?
I could continue, but I think you get the picture!
The idea of a review panel of Federal Circuit Judges makes sense in a way, but the Constitution would have to be amended to allow for Justices to be removed by any means other than impeachment. Personally, if there were such an amendment, I think it should put a limit on time of service, maybe one ten year term with no reappointment.
