I assume the XLRs are intended to be used on longer routes that can't be covered with a regular A321neo or 737 Max. In that case, it makes sense to have lie flat seats in business class. My guess is they'll also have Premium Plus, which is basically the same thing as domestic first class.

Its both great and disappointing as a UA travel to see all this major investment towards the passenger experience in all aspects, but the catering.
UA, MAKES millions of $$$$$$ flying everywhere, they should have good food, and seats should be more comfy. Like the seats 💺 from Emirates , OR Etihad Airlines.

I flew UA from EWR to PDL. But in all rareness, it was a hybrid. 737 Max with premium economy seats in first. Was very very nice. Love the new IFE in the 73’s
Just recently took a flight from ord to las on the max 9. Every seat was filled. It did not have the new IFE, but what surprised me was the plane is a freaking rocket! I have flown on every generation of the 737 and never been on one that felt this powerful even when fully loaded. It was a great flight the whole way. Also JMHO but you are entirely right about the great sound of the max 9 engines.
How many of United’s Max 9s have built in IFE screens? This is the only review where the max 9 has the screens available. Maybe the videos I’m watching are just outdated.
I have noticed a lot of US carriers offering Orange Juice and water in Business class before take off,What happen to a glass of champagne, wine or an alcohol drink?along with the warm premium nuts...We are paying so much more for less service and food...Will be flying United in a cpl weeks in First and Business class..MCO to IAD on 737 Max 9 and IAD to CDG on 777-200..looking forward to The Polaris Club at IAD and Star Alliance Club on my return at CDG....I am not expecting great food on the flights to and from CDG and no food will be served on the domestic flights...already says on my itinerary...
When it come to the food, couldn’t agree more. Lunch AND dinner, the boundless meatballs, or Zattar chicken. ALL YEAR LONG. And agreed, was nice when hot meals were served again, but got old real quick.
Great video, but I was expecting more of United first class in the next 739 Max, specially in seat comfort. I thought they will match Copa Airlines Dreams business class on 738 Max which have lie flat seats.
I like the new interior onboard the United Max 9 better than the old one. As a United passenger I'm wishing for this interior to go on all United mainline airplanes
a bit dissapointing that the seat leg area is continuos from the seat giving the impression that could come up as leg rest or semi-bed when reclined, but they do not... just fancy looking barrier that don't let me put my heals back under the seat :(
Thank you for the great report. I appreciate it. Question: were you able to recline your seat having the wall behind you? Just curious if they made any changes to the seats design in that regard. Thank you.
I've flown on some of the early UA Max 9 this year but none had the in seat IFE. In the one(?) case I flew Y I honestly don't recall if that seat had USB-C. I know it didn't have IFE. We're flying one UA Nov 1 DEN-ORD afternoon (lunch served) so it will be interesting to see if it has IFE.
Yeah its going to be a while before any of the first MAX 9s get IFEs, however, if you are curious to know if your flight will have them, just check the registration, if it ends on 30+, then it will have it! Safe travels!
I see we already have a NEXT 1.2 (1.0 are the MAX8s with purple economy plus seats, 1.1 aee tge MAX8s with blue eco+ seats but USB-A in first class). Do you think we'll see a NEXT 1.3?
In other UA news, they started retrofitting their 767-400s...before completing their 787-9 retrofits which has not been completed. What do you think is the reason which United started retrofitting 764s before finishing their 789s, when instead, they should've completed their 789 retrofits before moving on to the 764s?
The entire widebody fleet already has IFE, so it's just a matter of getting a newer system. My guess is the 764s have gone longer since their last retrofit than the 789s which are still relatively new.
Hi! I’m booked for this aircraft with United and will have the same seat as you but also have the option for 1A! Is the recline limited since the wall is behind you?
Looks nice. However, for the best of both worlds I really think in addition to the IFE there needs to be a tablet holder. I like to bring my own content, view on my iPad, and not have to place it on the tray table which takes up valuable space. Also, it allows me to use my wireless noise cancelling headphones.
You assume the person who made this video has travelled on all those other aircraft. If so, why not simply do a google or TH-cam seach on each of those aircraft and go view the videos yourself. Anericans are sure getting lazy since the pandemic. What's next? Expecting the flight attendant to cut your steak and feed it to you In first class?
itripreport has called out other carriers like Delta for a lack of cleanliness too. Trek Trendy also called out Delta for having the same lack of cleanliness as United
Very good, but I think Delta a321neo is better in my opinion. Kit more comfy economy whit more seat for legroom and a more private domestic first. Any way, this also is good, at least better than American Max 8. Excelent video!
Yeah... Delta's NEO really set the bar high for domestic first and economy, and hopefully United will do the same with their NEO, but as of right now, Delta's NEO did it better. Although personally, I am also happy with United's MAX.
Delta's IFE has "wireless tablet technology" so that IFEs can easily get taken out and replaced by a newer hardware in the event of an updating or an inop. Can United's new IFEs also get taken out and replaced for those two categories of events?
Loved the trip report! I flew the Max 8 about a week ago in their first class and loved the IFEs United brought back. The only issue I’ve had was the tray table is really hard to put back for some reason and I was not the only passenger facing the same issue on that flight. Don’t know if the seat on Max 9 had the same issue🤔
On the United app, go to the flight status page and hit your flight. towards the bottom of the status you should see a picture of a plane, and the text "Boeing 737 MAX 9 | 75## |" Planes with the new interior will have the digits after 75 be 31 or higher. So for example, 7535 will have the new interior While 7523 will not Of course UA loves to do lots of aircraft swap so its good to double check as the day goes
@@ITripReport this inconsistency is why I think United should prioritize the MAX9s for their retrofits. Compared to other fleet types, retrofitting the MAX9 is easy: install screens onto existing seats, which happens to be the same seat models as the NEXT planes (Safran first class and Collins Meridian)
Its a domestic first class and that is so overpriced - not just united all of them. Just fly economy for 3 hours and go to the highest quality steakhouse after your flight and it will still be cheaper than this or fly spirit first class
I will be trying them for a second time here in the near future. wasn't impressed with them the first go a round. Still trying to decide if paying for an upgrade is worth it. We are loyal delta and american clients. their first class lacks food and beverage out of nashville
As of right now, all 737 MAX 8 have them, as for the MAX 9, starting 3-4 days before your flight, it should show up under “my flight” on the UA app. Click that. And where it says the aircraft name IE. “Boeing 737 MAX 9 | ####” those last 4 digits, if the last 2 end in 31 or higher, then it’s a NEXT. As for the rest of the narrowbody fleet (aside from the 752s). It’s still WAYYYY too early too tell.
As United gets ready to retrofit once chip shortage is over, thet should do a systematic triage where another aircraft retrofit program doesn't start until one is finished. Here is what my triage would be if I was running United: 1. 737-MAX9 (The first 30 of them lack IFE and the first 17 MAX9s still lack the full bulkhead. Also throw the MAX8 into this rank if United plans to retrofit USB-C to first class and retrofit the economy plus leathers back to blue) 2. Tie (737-900ER, 737-800SFP) 3. Tie (737-800, 737-900) 4. 757-300 5. 737-700 6. A319 7. A320 How would you triage United's fleets?
As I understand, a number of 757-200’s have been retrofitted with new seats and new entertainment systems, as well as some updates to the bulkheads and lavatories. United is midway through that overhaul. I wouldn’t count out the A320/A319 either. Those may be older (just like the 757-200’s) but they won’t retire soon. Agree with the 737-900ER. Many or most of those are under 10 years old. They already have the Sky Interior, but no entertainment systems. As to the chip shortage, entertainment systems clearly require quite a number of chips. The way that it slowed down auto production makes me think perhaps too many computers are controlling our cars. Fewer computers in cars could free up some chips for more necessary purposes.
My ranking would be 1. 757-200, it’s already midway through. When they retire, move seats to other aircraft. 2. 737 MAX 9 3. 737-900ER 4. A319/A320. Treat as one program. 5. 757-300 6. 737-700/800. Most of these have live TV. Count as one program. Can count the non-ER 900’s here too.
@@ecoRfan United stopped retrofitting 757-200s (13 retrofitted, 27 nonretrofitted as of now) because they will be retired by 2026. Even then, the 2,080 757-200 retrofit seats (160 seats per retrofitted plane x 13 retrofitted plane) will not be very conpatible with other retrofits because the retrofit 757-200 IFEs do not swivel and they do not have bluetooth capability.
I'd say prioritize the 737-900ERs and 757-300s since most dont have direct TV, followed by the airbus fleet, then the 700/800s. I'd say the MAX 9s might the last to see the retrofits due to how new the seats are. I'm not sure though, Ive heard so many rumors as to which aircraft will be the first retrofitted, so I'm still very confused as to how this is going to go.
@@ITripReport I think that with the MAX9s, they can just retrofit the IFEs into the existing seats because the original MAX9s and newer MAX9s are both Meridian. Retrofitting their MAX9s are a piece of cake to get out of the way, compared to the decisions United will have to make for planes equipped with Pinnacle seats and Recaro seats. United/Continental and Delta have a history of retrofitting new screens onto existing seats. For example, all 12 of their 787-8s have always had Pinnacle seats. However, pre-Polaris, the seats on older 787-8s had Panasonic's older IFE monitors (same as unretrofitted 757-200s) and different tray tables (similar to 2010-2012 build 737s). Then, when those 787-8s got Polaris, the economy seats got newer IFE monitors and a newer tray table design, but they retained the Pinnacle seats that they've had since 2012. This idea has dated back to the Continental days. In 2009, they introduced DirecTV to their 737s, but they put those DirecTV monitors into the existing 737 seats without having to put old seats into dumpsters and replacing them will all new seats. This was the same deal when Continental was waiting for DirecTV to be certified for Pinnacle seats. The 2010-2011 737s originally didn't have DirecTV (similar to their 2013 737s) because Contninental was waiting for DTV to be certified for Pinnacle, but once certified, they installed DTV onto the existing seats so that existing seats didn't have to go to the dumpster. Similar story for Delta's A319s and A320 retrofits. Initially, Delta's retrofitted A319s and A320s didn't have IFEs because the IFE systems weren't ready. But once ready, the IFEs were installed into the existing retrofit seats so that the existing retrofit seats didn't have to go to the dumpster for lacking IFE. Some of Delta's 737-800s followed the same principal. Some 737-800s got upgraded IFEs and new tray tables, but those IFEs were installed onto the same old Zodiac seats instead of ripping those out for Pinnacles. An easier example to compare to would be AA's project Kodiak. Kodiac involves putting phone-holders onto first class seatbacks and privacy extensions for the last first class row of seats. I'm betting that AA didn't have to throw out the original Oasis seats into a dumpster in order to do that, but rather, they tacked those modifications onto existing seats.
Enjoyed your trip report. I'm flying United 737 max 9 in November round trip from ORD to LAS 1st class and looking forward to it. I was surprised when making my reservations UA was less expensive than DL who is always higher priced and AA which surprised me that they were priced comparable to DL high price and they have a lesser product. 👍✈
On a flight from San Francisco to Austin, Texas, it is doubtful if they went the great polar route via Vancouver, Canada. Then again, in today's crazy world, nothing is impossible..
Currently there's just 4 in service, but eventually we should see both more, although for the rest of the MAX fleet, I got a feeling it'll be a while till they get retrofitted with the new screens since they are quite new.
Message to U.S. Airlines: Please stop with the "first class" designation for your domestic product. There's nothing first class about them. The seats are nothing more than international premium economy seats. How about "premium class"? Or at the very least, follow the example of the Canadian airlines and just call them "business class". There, that's my rant! lol Another great trip report, btw. Two thumbs up! 👍👍
They were introduced in 2015, so they're not that old. Besides, AA did the same thing in 2013. In 2013, they introduced IFEs into their narrowbodies, but the first class seats are the same model as AA's previous first class seat that was introduced in 2009. Delta also did the same thing. For their A319 and A320 retrofits, the retrofitted cabins did not have IFE during the initial couple of years, and when they did get IFE, the screens were installed on existing seats for both first and economy. Heck, I can even argue that the scimitar winglets on the 737NG follows the same principle
@@ITripReport YAY. United in my opinion is the best and as a United Airlines passenger I'm wishing for this interior to go on all United narrowbody mainline airplanes.
Such items are usually found only in premium economy. Sometimes the first row of first class on a domestic flight will have an adjustable thigh rest. Other than that, not usually.
Plastic cups for drinks served initially, real domestic first class. Seems more like "No class" to me? Especially for the prices they charge for tickets in domestic first class.
Got some extra points from me because of the movie you chose to showcase the IFE 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Also, the plane looks great I hope more carriers bring back IFE screens even though it seems unlikely they really do make a difference even if everyone doesn’t use them!
Depends on routing and pricing though tbh. If someone lives in Dallas (for example) and is an AA mileage plus member, it would make sense for them to stick with them to keep racking up benefits and having that hub in their hometown.
I remember flying this route once. Our plane was a 739ER but it was placed out of service and they brought in one of the reserve 752’s. It was a great flight flying on the pencil aircraft. It was still fitted with seat back entertainment and was a rare sight to see in Austin
I flew a new UA 739 max on its third passenger flight SAN to IAH July 8. Very nice plane and do love the return if IFE. I agree with you very much on the meal service. The waffle is a sugar bomb and the presentation is awful.
It’s a start 😅. But yes you’re right, they’re finally following delta’s footsteps, but are still wayyyyyy behind considering this plane and Delta’s NEO both came into service within weeks of each other
How can these airlines get away using planes with First/business class seats charging full price and No IFE?I am retired and don't use a laptop, cell phone or tablet on a plane, does not matter how long the flight...Remember when newspaper and magazines were handed out,but this generation can't read,so they stopped it..
I flew American Oasis last week, and it’s just as bad as you say it is. I’m glad that United is taking the Delta approach here, even though they will never beat Delta 😁
United does have a chance of beating Delta since United has a bigger ambition than Delta. United wants to retrofit all narrowbodies with their new interiors and all long haulers with Polaris. Meanwhile, Delta debuted a new first class seat for their A321NEOs that they don't plan on retrofitting onto other narrowbodies and they don't plan on retrofitting Delta One onto their A330CEOs

Now that's a contrast against the equally long 737-900ER, which is infamous for not being as powerful as a 757-200
How many of United’s Max 9s have built in IFE screens? This is the only review where the max 9 has the screens available. Maybe the videos I’m watching are just outdated.
Right now, 14 out of 44 MAX 9s feature seatback IFE.
Actually, some of their MAX 10s will be delivered with lie flat seats, which will be similar to the JetBlue Mint suite!
I like the new interior onboard the United Max 9 better than the old one. As a United passenger I'm wishing for this interior to go on all United mainline airplanes
OMG I just got an AA advantage card ad on a UA trip report video LOL
I noticed they use the reverse thrust after the nose gear touches down
Minuto 13:07 volando sobre la frontera entre México y EUA. Cd. Juárez y El Paso Tx. Great report!
I recently flew UA from IAH-YYC in F and had the same meal choices. The waffle was SO good. I had lunch on the way home. I liked the food.
a bit dissapointing that the seat leg area is continuos from the seat giving the impression that could come up as leg rest or semi-bed when reclined, but they do not... just fancy looking barrier that don't let me put my heals back under the seat :(
The new First Class Cabin with IFE is better than your old trip video with UA MAX 9 with older First Class Cabin without IFE.
Thank you for the great report. I appreciate it. Question: were you able to recline your seat having the wall behind you? Just curious if they made any changes to the seats design in that regard. Thank you.
Wondering the same!
Thanks for this video I was super curious if row 1 had IFE in the NEXT upgrade and you helped answer that question. Much appreciated.
The max growl!!!😄😄😄
My educated guess is, IF we see a NEXT 1.3, it'll be once the NEOs come in
In other UA news, they started retrofitting their 767-400s...before completing their 787-9 retrofits which has not been completed.
Hmmm, new plane smell! Love it! All of my upcoming trip reports are probably going to be on 20yr old clunkers.

Hi! I’m booked for this aircraft with United and will have the same seat as you but also have the option for 1A! Is the recline limited since the wall is behind you?
On the MAX 8, recline is the same for all seats, aka its not limited in the last row
Nice video! The MAX does sound better than the NEO because you get a little bit of buzzsaw in there! I have flown Uniteds MAX a lot!
couldn't rate no more than fighting the autofocus from the rain drops during pushback lol
Looks nice. However, for the best of both worlds I really think in addition to the IFE there needs to be a tablet holder. I like to bring my own content, view on my iPad, and not have to place it on the tray table which takes up valuable space. Also, it allows me to use my wireless noise cancelling headphones.
12:11, I didn't mention it but there is a tablet holder embedded to the IFE.
@@ITripReport wow, great!
For your next flight go to SLC
Very promising indeed!
How's the seat comfort on this compared to AA's Kodiak, Delta's A321NEO first class, DL's A320 first class, and AS's newest seats?
You assume the person who made this video has travelled on all those other aircraft. If so, why not simply do a google or TH-cam seach on each of those aircraft and go view the videos yourself. Anericans are sure getting lazy since the pandemic. What's next? Expecting the flight attendant to cut your steak and feed it to you In first class?
Awesome video!
Excellent engine sounds
Inexcusable cleanliness in that cabin. One of the many reasons I don’t bother looking at United when I fly.
itripreport has called out other carriers like Delta for a lack of cleanliness too. Trek Trendy also called out Delta for having the same lack of cleanliness as United
From what I’ve seen and heard delta generally is worse in cleanliness than UA
wow nice plane and cabin
Cool video and your cute!
I love your videos
1:08 whats the software you used for that animation
How can we tell if the United 737 Max 9 has the new IFE’s? We want to book a trip in first class to FLL in February 2024.
Is there a way to know if we'll get the new interior prior to boarding, I know we're on a Max9 later this week
On the United app, go to the flight status page and hit your flight. towards the bottom of the status you should see a picture of a plane, and the text
"Boeing 737 MAX 9 | 75## |"
Planes with the new interior will have the digits after 75 be 31 or higher.
So for example, 7535 will have the new interior
While 7523 will not
Of course UA loves to do lots of aircraft swap so its good to double check as the day goes
@@ITripReport Dang! 7503.. for now, fingers crossed - Thank you for the tip
Darn, just looked and my plane is 7509 .. kinda feeling stupid for paying so much for first class on such a mediocre plane with no TVs 🥺😩
@@richelledejong4863 I agree 100%, felt like a waste of money. Plus we didn't even get a meal option, they only had one choice
Does the IFE offer closed caption for deaf/hard of hearing passengers?
So this was a new MAX9 with the new interior. They haven't begun retrofits on the existing MAX9 yet? I'm confused.
Yes, this was a new delivery, they is currently 4 of these in service. There's been zero retrofits fleet wide since the announcement
If United could improve the food, I think they would be a great carrier all around!
Its a domestic first class and that is so overpriced - not just united all of them. Just fly economy for 3 hours and go to the highest quality steakhouse after your flight and it will still be cheaper than this or fly spirit first class
11:19. Does anyone know what that screen is, the one that the FA is using? I have not seen that in earler BSI 737s
It’s used to control the entire IFE system.
I will be trying them for a second time here in the near future. wasn't impressed with them the first go a round. Still trying to decide if paying for an upgrade is worth it. We are loyal delta and american clients. their first class lacks food and beverage out of nashville
How can I tell if my flight will be a NEXT aircraft?
Here is what my triage would be if I was running United:
1. 737-MAX9 (The first 30 of them lack IFE and the first 17 MAX9s still lack the full bulkhead. Also throw the MAX8 into this rank if United plans to retrofit USB-C to first class and retrofit the economy plus leathers back to blue)
2. Tie (737-900ER, 737-800SFP)
3. Tie (737-800, 737-900)
4. 757-300
5. 737-700
6. A319
7. A320
How would you triage United's fleets?
My ranking would be
1. 757-200, it’s already midway through. When they retire, move seats to other aircraft.
2. 737 MAX 9
3. 737-900ER
4. A319/A320. Treat as one program.
5. 757-300
6. 737-700/800.
Are all the max planes changed to seat back entertainment?
Not yet, all the MAX 8s have them, and new MAX 9s do, (check the registration, if it ends on 30+, then it has screens). No retrofits have done yet.
@@ITripReport thanks!

Wow, it didn't crash. Alright Boeing!
Was that Vancouver you took off from? Hard to tell 100 percent
On a flight from San Francisco to Austin, Texas, it is doubtful if they went the great polar route via Vancouver, Canada. Then again, in today's crazy world, nothing is impossible..
You go to umiami?
Yes!
@@ITripReport What year are you? I go here to I was thinking of starting an airline channel as well reviewing first class products.
Didn’t knew there were Max-9’s with entertainment systems on demand yet
Currently there's just 4 in service, but eventually we should see both more, although for the rest of the MAX fleet, I got a feeling it'll be a while till they get retrofitted with the new screens since they are quite new.
12:07 acute intracerebral hemorrhage moment
Message to U.S. Airlines: Please stop with the "first class" designation for your domestic product. There's nothing first class about them. The seats are nothing more than international premium economy seats. How about "premium class"? Or at the very least, follow the example of the Canadian airlines and just call them "business class". There, that's my rant! lol
Another great trip report, btw. Two thumbs up! 👍👍
I love how the just took the old seats and just stuck screens to them 😂 Why waste good seats, right?
They were introduced in 2015, so they're not that old. Besides, AA did the same thing in 2013. In 2013, they introduced IFEs into their narrowbodies, but the first class seats are the same model as AA's previous first class seat that was introduced in 2009. Delta also did the same thing. For their A319 and A320 retrofits, the retrofitted cabins did not have IFE during the initial couple of years, and when they did get IFE, the screens were installed on existing seats for both first and economy. Heck, I can even argue that the scimitar winglets on the 737NG follows the same principle
Is this new interior going on all United 737 max 9's?
Eventually yes!
@@ITripReport YAY. United in my opinion is the best and as a United Airlines passenger I'm wishing for this interior to go on all United narrowbody mainline airplanes.
Do they have foot or leg rest?
Such items are usually found only in premium economy. Sometimes the first row of first class on a domestic flight will have an adjustable thigh rest. Other than that, not usually.
Try delta A330
Plastic cups for drinks served initially, real domestic first class. Seems more like "No class" to me? Especially for the prices they charge for tickets in domestic first class.

Got some extra points from me because of the movie you chose to showcase the IFE 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Also, the plane looks great I hope more carriers bring back IFE screens even though it seems unlikely they really do make a difference even if everyone doesn’t use them!
Cough AMERICAN
United is leaving American in the dust I don’t see any reason why someone would pick American over delta or united at this point
Not lying but I flew on one of theses before United’s premium economy look better than first class
At least UA's first class looks better padded than any of the three carriers' premium economy products and AA's Oasis First

How do you afford to fly so much?
handsome!
I flew a new UA 739 max on its third passenger flight SAN to IAH July 8. Very nice plane and do love the return if IFE. I agree with you very much on the meal service. The waffle is a sugar bomb and the presentation is awful.
Devil wears prada, I see we have a man of taste here!
Junk seats. Good video. Hard to believe This is America's type of first class travel.
So they are finally at where Delta was 10 years ago.
It’s a start 😅. But yes you’re right, they’re finally following delta’s footsteps, but are still wayyyyyy behind considering this plane and Delta’s NEO both came into service within weeks of each other
@@ITripReport it is like the sign above TechOps in Atlanta says "FLY DELTA JETS".
So taking out the IFE’s wasn’t working out after all huh lol.. Maybe American will get the memo…

I love United!✈️💙🌐
