The beauty of those crypts are the photos , which I love visiting out or inside those mousluem. Viewing them of their era and different places around the world intice me. The long wooden slab is not a kneeler bench it's for setting flowers on it by its name and the bottom half for larger flower vases. Thank you for taking along with you.
WOW! What a place! We were underground the whole time! I don't think I have seen one with so many sky lights. It makes it less creepy and more explorable. It was nice to walk inside one of the crypts and see it in fairly good condition with the family names and dates still readable. Loved the porcelain photographs, it let's us see their long ago faces. youre pushing 50 so the grave thing is still far away; it was for me at even 57 ; now at 66 ( and i look 46 ; my body looks 29 - 30 ) but i am 66; and i look at the graves and the mausoleums and im going there soon; it lends a whole new layer to the experience of being fascinated with grave yards which i have been since i was 4 ; and you realize also as you get near your own mortality; and looking at all the names on the stones the tombs that for example not only are the people from 1814 gone; but the people from a hundred years after that are gone? thats wild stuff; that my dad who was as regular to my life as the sun and the weather will be ( he passed in 94 ) 103 this dec; that we walk on countless generations and after a short while nothing of our time pretty much remains? very wild stuff; ashes to ashes dust to dust when you can feel it viscerally; i hope theres something afte this where we retain our identity more than the sense of " I "; I suspect if there is something after this; we may first come back a la the hindus but like a computer is refurbished; the memory is wiped and the only thing that survives is the sense of " I " but no other characteristic attached to that " I " you pushing 50; im pushing 70; looking at my next residence? lol and not lol; what are you gonna do? its such a blessing to have had a good life in modern times living to be 66? 99 per cent of the people who have ever lived have not lived so long or well

Marie Constance Fontanelle, what a beautiful name. Many of the placards you are showing are of young ones who died far too early in life. Too early to provide their parents with any kind of progeny to carry on their name and bloodline. One of the first ones you showed us was a young man who dies at 21 years old, likely in one of Europe's many wars, especially during the time of Napoleon Bonapart, who caused wars far too often for his own selfish purposes. When we look back on History and remember the names of the "great" men who waged warfare we often make the mistake of thinking that they were powerful men, with overbearing personalities but most of them were lesser men, with severe issues in their minds or in their hearts or both. and thought nothing of sending millions of men to their deaths, and for what? For their own greatness egos or for the misguided belief of national greatness. We know so much about Hitler and Stalin because we have the benefit of a much more information orientated society but back in previous centuries what was written about those men was meticulously controlled most by the men themselves, and they would most certainly have their weaknesses covered up. but to say they were men a breed apart, is pure fantasy and fallacy. They were ordinary men, and removing them from the military and political power they wielded showed them to be much less than most of the common rank and file who worked hard for a living and raised their children along the way. I have had the pleasure of knowing a man or two who were from the old stock of men, who worked hard physical labor from sunrise to sunset and even though their way of thinking is much different than what we see today, they were honest, just men and women, who were honorable and kept their word, and raised their children to be the same. who would rather do without entirely than to steel a single penny, and who made sure they kept their word when given. Far different than what we see today. Which makes me long for those days again, when the vast majority of our society had a strong sense of moral backbone and refused to dishonor their own good name by betraying their word and their verbal agreements. Today, everyone is like what would have been considered a criminal in nature, who did not keep their word, stole from others, took advantage of them because of their words, and gaslighted in order to prevent from being considered a low-life. But back then, if you did not keep your agreements and honored your word as given, word would travel fast and broad about that kind of behavior and soon, you would have trouble finding work or people to pay to do something. Because trust is as precious as a newborn life, and lies and gaslighting would be just as perilous to your honor, as poison was to an infant. Everyone knew this and made sure to keep their honor first and foremost in mind. Back in a day when, as a working farmer, my Great Grandfather would package up all the eggs from his hens put them in a box in from of his house, and leave a lock box with a slot in it, and had the price for eggs written on the box's exterior, and leave for the fields and left for people to pay for the eggs on their honor. and every egg was accounted and paid for by people in the community and if it wasn't, oh well, he chalked it up to someone who needed the eggs but could not pay for them and believed it was for the best that they take them and not pay for them , but if they took without paying and could afford to pay for them, then that would be accounted for them on Judgement day. but he never went a day without all the eggs being paid for, and sometimes even more than what he asked for them. His Father before him, would leave the money out for the eggs as well, no lock box for the money because not everyone had the proper change in his mind, so he left the money out for the people to take change if they did not happen to have the exact amount. I wish for those days again, where the People were that good. but those days are long gone and almost everyone today is a criminal of opportunity if given the chance. And now, only the few, are still honorable and God fearing people, because they do not believe in God anymore and feel it no sin to lie or steal a little and to take advantage of another, and that there is no harm in it because they are incapable of putting themselves into the receiving end of their actions, or care not to think in that way to avoid feelings of guilt, and only act the humble and repentant person when caught. much to the shame of their ancestors who would rather die than break their word or offend God with their actions of lack thereof. This is why I love to see these pictures of people from back in History, People for the most part, or rather the Vast majority of them were honorable and kind and willing to be a friend to someone in need. And most Importantly Feared God and worshipped Him as best as they could and made their religion their way of life. Thank you as always, for going about and abroad to bring the beautiful grave of these people of yester year to us. and who could have foreseen, a day would come in the future where their resting places would be brought about for people to see from all over the world and seen is a way they could never have Imagined, through electronic means. And the Prophecy of the Lord Jesus Christ said, that the sins of men would be spoken from the treetops for all to see and hear. and that prophecy has literally come true with first the invention of the television and news, but then further under the creation of the internet, and the World Wide Web. everything is quickly falling into place perfectly as has been prophesied by the Lord and His Prophets throughout time.

A cornucopia of fruit and flowers 💐 on the 1st monument with the lady and child. This is absolutely beautiful. What a wonderful place to lie in rest. I'm guessing that the Jewish crypt would have been as beautiful in its time.
I never like to see what looks like decomp ooze dark stains coming from an older burial area. All the lovely things that pre-date modern funeral practices, usually. What a great and huge place with those long corridors!! I’ve never seen the burial places in Belgium before. I read somewhere that many of these old photos on graves were taken after death. The mortician would dress, pose, and apply makeup to the deceased to make them look as though they were living for the photograph.
Because I still have research in my blood from my work years before retirement, I looked up Paul de Vigne. He was a sculptor. Born 1843 in Belgium, passed 1901. The black and while marker with the "11" must reference some kind of listing they have for famous people. How exciting!! I could spend HOOOOURSSS in there!!!
I had a bad experience in a crypt about 10 years ago. As we walked up to an open shelf with an exposed coffin, I burst into tears suddenly feeling the most awful sadness. I was 53 years old. It scared me a lot. I wanted to find out who was in the coffin but there was no records available.

What a fabulous video. This was an incredibly interesting one and one of my favourites. I loved the history of it and the Crypt of the Famille with the crucifix on the door was very interesting and will be fun to check out since one was a Baron
It is a wonderful setting for a horror movie. The new mausoleums look like shopping malls. This one, which I have seen before, is the stuff nightmares are made of. It could not be more creepy because it is underground and it is in disrepair, dark, gloomy, and damp. It reminds me of the subway or underground but filled with dead bodies.

I read somewhere that many of these old photos on graves were taken after death. The mortician would dress, pose, and apply makeup to the deceased to make them look as though they were living for the photograph.

Because I still have research in my blood from my work years before retirement, I looked up Paul de Vigne. He was a sculptor. Born 1843 in Belgium, passed 1901. The black and while marker with the "11" must reference some kind of listing they have for famous people. How exciting!! I could spend HOOOOURSSS in there!!!
It's a shame nobody looks after the place to clean up the 'liquid' mess & stains.

Very interesting cemetery
I had a bad experience in a crypt about 10 years ago. As we walked up to an open shelf with an exposed coffin, I burst into tears suddenly feeling the most awful sadness. I was 53 years old. It scared me a lot. I wanted to find out who was in the coffin but there was no records available.
Wow! Those old photographs of the people interred in the crypt are amazing. I'm glad the staff are caring for this cemetery, unlike that one in Italy.

That crypt is more like a underground Museum bet theres a alot of history in there. ........
The whole of Brussels tends to be 'damp' (I live here!) ..Brussels literally means 'settlement in the marsh' and the river Senne runs underground. Thank you for this fascinating video. 'Conseiller communal is a councillor to one of the 'Communes' (districts) of Brussels.

What a fabulous video. This was an incredibly interesting one and one of my favourites. I loved the history of it and the Crypt of the Famille with the crucifix on the door was very interesting and will be fun to check out since one was a Baron

I would wear a N -95 personal protection mask down there. All that moisture, mold (spores), bacteria stirred up and other pathenogenic risks.
It did smell bad of mold and damp to be honest

It is a wonderful setting for a horror movie. The new mausoleums look like shopping malls. This one, which I have seen before, is the stuff nightmares are made of. It could not be more creepy because it is underground and it is in disrepair, dark, gloomy, and damp. It reminds me of the subway or underground but filled with dead bodies.
