A reminder - Your ballista build was scaling hit damage. Widowhail, being the lowest bow type unique with no modifiers, is for non-hit mechanics. I feel like your analysis was analog to asking if a Spoon is going to replace Cars in the transportation meta. Widowhail probably requires either a Toxic Rain setup or a caster quiver in the same way that a Quilrain, which probably provides you with a massive net dps loss, is an endgame bow for Toxic Rain.
Why are you even considering Widowhail for skills that scale off bow damage? Quivers can have up to 50% dot multi, they don't get base damage penalty when using EA, they can have life which you're kinda ignoring here.
widowhail is actually insane for vaal caustic arrow. double damage over time multi and damage with bow on quiver, then put your links into a good skin of the lord for +4 caustic.

One thing you didn't mention with the new bow is the potential for it being a phys spell stat stick, double influenced quiver can roll up to 30% phys as extra elemental, bow would take that to 100% extra at least, and you'd still have 4 other mods on the quiver to scale besides.

Hey Grimro, you could also make a video about the Vengeance Cascade Anointment on the passive tree now that the projectile return rules have been "simplified". It sounds like TS arrows will now return after the tornadoes burst, whereas with 3.20 Nimis the return happens before the tornadoes burst.

Poison tornado shot was giga buffed by the arrow changes. It can easily hit dot cap now. Those arrows were super important. It wasn't able to get them before because darkscorn.
Idk if you have looked at numbers yet but snipe is basically double damage in a support if you had two bow skills that synergize and you just release at 2 charges consistently.
I’m going to go convince captain lance to make a tri attribute stacker with the bow and quiver. He usually gets 1k in all attributes but even with less it should be juicy damage
Thats the build im doing this league. Tri stat stacking inquisitor LA with perma berserk at Budget gear with about 900 to 1100 stats my PoB sits at 4m LA dps which means its insane for clearing

It would basically make you unkillable for the leveling experience as well with 1500 armor - p.s. how would Maloney mechanism work since it has the modifier "has 2 additional sockets." Does this mean we can have 6 link quivers?
If you hate dying and progressing really slow lol, Rearguard would be pretty funny on a champion who is in a leveling party going for 100 with fortify and max block on an archer lol
for manaforged, blink arrow. If you've seen mathils lightning warp asenath chant setup, you already know what this is going to do. And it could be completely insane if it works how I think it will, the issue is how do you spend 60 mana to proc blink arrow at the exact time it comes off cooldown. Might need to spend significantly more so that breakpoints are irrelevant.
for the bow, i think instead of more power, i think you can do some nonsense like use a rear guard for max block, some spell block or seamus sfor some massive lightning damage in an int stacker build, also alot of HP and even capped lightning res, as well as some stun avoid. steel worm would basically give you more than greater multi proj, and multi proj combined. there`s also there`sscorpion call, for lots of life and %proj damage(maybe some aspd), and finally there`s void fletcher, i mean, you will be basically maxing your void charges every second, only question is, will it consume 3 charges, and cast 3x? as for the manaforged arrows its actually amazing for an auto frenzy, just put frenzy, MFA and either a hextouch + curse, or GMP+MP or even culling.
I think if widowhail is any good, it is in a build that doesnt really use bows for their attack and simply uses widowhail as a 6-link stat stick to double stuff like resists, extra pierce etc
Manaforged arrows should be very nice in one of my favourite builds I played ages ago and am planning to give another shot this league, which is mana stacking hyro ballistas. With the builds mana cost and placement speed manaforged triggering lightning arrow should improve clear quite a bit. Another potentially interesting new gem for the build will be momentum if placing ballistas grants the buff and if ballista generate it for themselves. Should be a heap of extra speed.
With Widowhail being a crude bow base, I'd assume it's a leveling bow. Get some flat damage on your quiver, and basically double it. Could be juicy for getting through the acts. I don't think every new item we get needs to be an end game chase unique.

I think the bow will probably be better on something like EA or CA where the bow is more or less purely for gem levels, AS, and dot multi. Since a quiver can provide those same stats (minus gem levels), it has more potential there when the skill gem levels dictate damage and not flat added damage or relying on weapon damage scaling in the first place.
It's clearly only chance for endgame, beyond starter dex-stacker option, is double(str+int) or even tripple attribute stacker inquis or hiero stealing inquis crit stat stacking node. Then base dmg could get quite insane.
As you said I am not giving up projectiles for damage, but you can do 1 setup that you shoot yourself and 1 that is shot throught that mana shot or whatever it's called and you get crap ton of orojectiles as well as more single target damage

if its cheap i can see the bow being good with poised prism UNTIL you get a better rare, but you would have to find that threshold when its pretty easy to make decent ele bows with essence spamming

The big question for me, and I wish Grim would have touched on is whether there's now enough proj and pierce on the tree to skip the clear 6L entirely, or maybe even replace it with a 4L manaforged arrows situation. So you run ONLY your single target setup with VIS or VLA and then you've freed up that second 6L for something like maybe a 6L aura setup with enlighten. Say all you get is the 1 standard arrow, 2 from the tree, and just 1 from gear. That's 4 proj as a raider, is that enough to overcome the "feelsbad"? What if you got the deadeye proj?

I am honestly so over the totem playstyle for bosses so the Vaal skills potentially being about the same or even slightly worse than ballistas is acceptable to me. I actually wonder if in your gem setup if you drop GMP and Chain and replace them with pure damage supports, grab the 2 extra proj on the passive tree (since you save a good chunk from not using ballistas anyway if that would be good enough to have a middle ground for both clear and, at bare minimum, pinnacle bosses.
Many ppl will be league starting bow characters as they got a lot of support and they are easy to develop from league starter into an efficient and fast endgame cleaner. Omni TS has been a staple mapper for a number of leagues and it's not going to be different this time. But we also get more bow skills to use.

Once you get the skills, are you really going to six socket/link it? Only to keep trying to find a better skill setup via crucible? I'd put my bow setup in chest, and then just whatever I can into the actual bow for artillery ballista.
I don't think it's fair to compare widowhail like that, even for the poised prism scenario, obviously your DPS went way down but you also gained like 60% all res so you can omit res on a bunch of other items and go for damage easily. I do believe widowhail is not going to be a top tier unique but it's definitely a lot less simple than "well i lost 2/3 of my damage by just swapping the bow therefore it's bad"
I think you are looking at vaal ice shot wrong. First off two predictions: 1. Verdant cascade will double the damage of each attack due to the returning, it won't scale well with multiple projectiles. 2. Each minion from ice shot will be dealing an individual amount of damage (not subject to shotgun rules). I can't see the skill ever making sense without this. Vaal ice shot is primarily a single target skill, if each archer is shooting individual projectiles then each will deal damage and then return, further multiplying it.

have you considered ascendant as a possible choice? it has 1 less proj compared to deadeye but you can get an additional totem, crit from assassin or inquis.

@@Grimro I'm not sure if you can learn that from the information before league start but it could possibly also apply to corrupted modifiers. Then also there's a roll of the crucible map item that lets you recombinate corrupted uniques. With a somewhat deterministically crucibled bow maybe you could combine these effects with that attribute stacking quiver.
I think mana forged Is good with rain of arrow triggering another rain of arrow. Sure it is a more active playstyle but I think it,s rewarding enough damage wise
@@Arccanos probably put the gems in armor instead. The issue with the bow is that the attack speed from quiver is not local so the bow is stuck with a shitty attack speed I think?
I just have a feeling this bow has a ridiculous bottom making it look like crap at first but crazy high end potential with stat stacking. Also considering potential Crucible passives that can be slapped on to this, I'm chapping my lips on what it can offer.

manaforged arrow could be broken on hirophant if you can have multiple instances of that skill trigger at individual cooldowns

@@Dulk4 it doesn't scale off bow dps, aside from the hit, which is irrelevant. The dot dps on the quiver is miles more important.
Bow damage only matters for the hit part, which does negligible damage compared to the DoT. Thus very little benefit on scaling hit damage at all.

the problem is that bows are already broken for phys spells and +3 empower bow scales phys spells much more than skilling the phys as extra ele

Manaforged arrows could be put into secondary 6Ls for EA Totems. ManaArrow + pconc + "frenzy/EnsArrow" + hextouch + flammability + culling / GMP

Item sockets is not a bonus you gain, it wouldn't make sense if it worked with the bow

That mastery does not exist anymore they changed it to some remove ailment and gave the stance +6 seconds to its cooldown

manaforged shouldnt be working with lifetap in gem setup as it converts manacost to lifecost.

Im going to treat the crucible tree as free real estate the build is buffed even without it so im not to concerned with having a good one early.

@Grimgo are you sure about Elemental Mastery? PoB tells different that you lose damage pair it with Avatar of the Vail for example.
No one can be 100% sure until we play with it in game.

Would the bow multiply the skilltree of the quiver? Would Voidfletcher give 20 max charges? There are some more non-damage unique quivers out there.

@@Grimro I'm not sure if you can learn that from the information before league start but it could possibly also apply to corrupted modifiers. Then also there's a roll of the crucible map item that lets you recombinate corrupted uniques. With a somewhat deterministically crucibled bow maybe you could combine these effects with that attribute stacking quiver.
Momentum seems great. When you Flicker Strike into the Darkness of Delve you get a 2 sec movement speed buff for that jog of shame out of there 😂

I think mana forged Is good with rain of arrow triggering another rain of arrow. Sure it is a more active playstyle but I think it,s rewarding enough damage wise

@@Arccanos probably put the gems in armor instead. The issue with the bow is that the attack speed from quiver is not local so the bow is stuck with a shitty attack speed I think?

I just have a feeling this bow has a ridiculous bottom making it look like crap at first but crazy high end potential with stat stacking. Also considering potential Crucible passives that can be slapped on to this, I'm chapping my lips on what it can offer.
