Im completely new to Diablo, never played a single game before. Diablo 4 is downloading and I’ve searched the entirety of TH-cam for a new-player-friendly guide and finally found it here. Thanks!
By the way i don't know if you know, but for everyone landing on this video a small tip. You don't need to reskill the entire tree to swap skills. Just get a skill point and invest it into the new skill you want and then you can sell part of the old skill and put it into the new one over and over until you got your skills you want (might save some money).
Bro. Nearly 50 minutes of your time and I can't say thank you enough. I played Diablo 3 for YEARS, paid for the Beta for D4 and thought I'd have it down. I was wrong. You have really helped me out with pretty much everything I wasn't sure of. Thank you very much. Keep up the good work :)

A small tip to reduce the traveling back and forth is to put gems you find into socketed items to save inventory space. Then you can just aalvage the item and the gem is released. Or if you decide you want to use the item, removing gems is cheap.
But as you said & in another thread - if you salvage you get the gems back for free. So it only matters when you wanna keep the item *and* take the gem out 😊
@@markmatthews9102 coincidentally I tested this just last night on PC. When salvaging items with gems I was returned just under half, which tells me there is about a 50% chance of getting the gem back. It's also on a gem to gem, not item to item, basis as I had a two gem wep only return one.
I just started playing (xbox Gamepass) and this is still the best beginners guide I found. All the others jump straight into high levels when a newbie like me don't even know what to keep, what to salvage, what to sell, when to upgrade... the very basics. This video was a great help! You made this very overwhelming game an enjoyable "new player experience". Thank you very much for your time! 🙂

i’m jumping into the game this weekend and have been watching a bunch of videos to get me prepped so I don’t feel completely overwhelmed, and this was the most informative one I’ve found so far. I’m a casual gamer and this video was super easy to digest, and really helped break down the more complex elements so now I’m feeling fairly confident about getting a decent start. Cheers!
Gear that has gems in it could be salvaged and your gems will be returned to your inventory for free. Only reason you want to pay to remove your gem is if you plan on replacing the current gem with an alternative. Otherwise if you are not using that gear anymore and don't need it but want that gem, jus salvage it and reclaim your gem for free.
@ebontis Your Section at 28:05, the one on gems has a major error: you get gems back for *free* when you salvage items so you should shove gems in every available socket while leveling. You're not going to keep them long so there's not much reason to worry about getting the best quality gem first or wasting gems on low level gear.

Great vid appreciate it as always.. One thing that I might have missed and might be helpful to others who like me did a DOH! moment.. Assign proper weapons to your Basic and Core skill.. Life become so much easier after that, basic skill hit so much faster generating fury so much quicker..... :)
As an experienced Diablo player, i thought i'd choose veteran with my necro playthrough and found it really hard, so i watched your vid and i totally agree with you, choosing the easy mode to finish the campaign 1st makes it quicker and easier and more fun tbh. I was also putting gems in my gear and not levelling it up for the pieces i really liked and it now makes a huge difference to do the exact opposite! Thanks for the tips :3
I am under 30 right now and for low levels speaking of gyms I really like using a two handed weapon for my druid with two sockets and putting two crude topaz in there and getting +20% to basic skills because you’re hitting with basic skills constantly
Easiest way to make it through the campaign is to do a necro build and use your skeleton warriors and skeleton mages. I made it through the entire campaign without dying (tier 1) till I got to Lilith and fell of the cliff she destroys. I did not know about salvaging things from equipment at the blacksmith, I have been selling everything.
Yeah I messed up and beat the main campaign day 1 at level 38 😅 I did die 20+ times in Act 6… I did mess around and found out. Now I am just grinding side quests, strong holds, alters and such. I love it. I think the path I took was good. A lot of my friends are level 40+ on Act II still. Which they don’t even have their mounts or anything.
Thanks so much for putting this together! I've played all the previous Diablo games, but it's always best to gain a bit of insight before jumping in head first. I especially appreciate the World Tier 1 tip. I initially selected WT2, but you make a great point about TTK vs XP gained. Good looking out 😎👍
I too have never touched Diablo before and I decided to give this a shot. And I love it...but knew nothing, never been more out of my element in a game lol. So thank you so so much for putting this out. This really helped a lot. There is some really basic stuff that I could not figure out. Like I wanted to use both daggers and a bow. I started with my daggers, unlocked bow..couldn't use daggers anymore unless I swapped the skill. Had no idea how that worked. Still a ton I don't know but man this really helped thank you.
@@pastormosesmaloney1604 yea man. As you level up, the monsters level up as well. This means you never really feel like you're getting stronger. You can't go to early dungeons and tank the whe dungeon, because it's gonna be just as hard. Sucks.
Idk if u will see this cause ur vid is over a year old but thank you for making this vid. As a newer diablo player it really helps to have a guide like this. Thanks brotha 💪🏼❤️
I've been playing on Veteran as a Druid. I feel like the easy mobs are still easy and the bosses that I have died on are bosses that I probably would have died to even on Adventurer. It seems D4 throws more packs at you than D3 (to me anyway) so you're fighting through packs every step you take it seems. All that +20% adds up.
Also it could be another bug or a glitch but I started the game on veteran and changed it to easy and tonight I noticed it was on veteran again and was wondering why it was so hard.. I know they nerfed sorcerer but DANG.... ima switch it back asap 😂 definitely NOT worth it
Also a point he kinda missed. I don’t know the keybind on PC, but on console if you press left stick while in your inventory you get a breakdown of each stat and gear contribution, that was an awesome find. Also CONSOLE PLAYERS HAVE CHAT, YOU SHOULD CHECK IT AND USE IT. Press left or up on the D pad to open your quick menu wheel and open your chat. Need help? Ask chat. Someone else need to quest? Look at chat. I feel like no one knows about the in game chat. You can whisper people, open local chat, or even clan chat
+1 for not going Veteran off the bat. I'm a diablo vet and honestly this game is pretty damn tough at lower levels when you don't have a good set of skills. It was frustratingly hard leveling up on Veteran with my first character until at least 30 when I had a good assortment of abilities to deal with the various mobs.
Thanks so much for this guide. As a new Diablo player I'm loving it but there is so much to take in it can be overwhelming. I've watched a few other guides but was still a bit confused. This guide hands down gives me everything I need to know to get started properly. I'm only level 7 but I'm going back in now armed with a ton of knowledge. Subscribed to the channel :))
I tried on T1 at the beginning but it just felt a little too easy to me. I dunno, maybe it's not the most "efficient" way to do it, but I like T2 better.
You get the same loot in tier 1 and tier 2 for just a smidge more gold and xp, I feel like ya it's not that worth it that much. It's more challenging for the same reward basically.
i was thinking the same, salvaging gear with new aspects makes the aspect available at the Occultist. so as soon as you replace it you should salvage it
Here's my tip: If you make a sorcerer, make it a female. I made a male and most of the gear is girly stuff. Dresses, frilly masks, low cut shirts obviously meant for cleavage. My poor sorc looks like the most flamboyant mage ever. Like he should be a pop star and go on tour with Katy Perry. And the worst part is I tried to make him look like me with my hair and beard so the whole time I'm staring at this imaginary version of myself in gothic drag. Wtf
Because I took an extended break before now and had two new characters I had to do a lot or rejogging my memory and respecing. I had to respec my Necromancer earlier because she was a complete mess. I have now fixed her up for a blood build which i'm enjoying and she is no longer a mess lol. I came to this video to help me with something I knew I was doing a bit wrong and you managed to point me in the right direction again, thankyou.
I’m in the same boat but really want to pull the trigger on this game. It seems very complex for someone who’s just used to competitive shooters, but trying to not get too overwhelmed to the point I don’t wanna buy 😂 it’s really peaking my interest
As someone who just started the game because of game pass finally getting it I totally wish I'd watched this video first.I'm still in act one and i'm level thirty😅 I appreciate the good advice well done
Regarding loot, selling for gold vs scrapping - breaking down to ingredients for upgrades. I scrap all yellow items that don’t fit my build or look exceptional for another class. I sell the blue and ordinary gray items. Doing this I’m able to upgrade all my equipped yellow items to tier three. Wish I had seen this vid sooner, keep going with these please.
I’ve been researching so much whether to buy and if so how to start and after countless videos lol I come across this video. THANK YOU. Excited to start the journey.. haven’t gamed in a decade and excited to get back into it. Was always a WoW player so I figure I’ll like this! I only have a console, so hopefully it’s still a good experience
I never ran out of veiled crystals so I upgraded everything to rank 3 and that's what I recommend. I didn't go past that until end game as the materials needed come from salvaging legendaries. But in end game you get lots from helltide to the point nothing becomes a problem anymore. Only adding sockets was longer to solve.
Got myself set up as a necromancer... love my reapers so far haha nice playing alone while not getting beat down like im playing alone.. till I hit lvl 50 I'll stay in tier 1 then I'll bump up as I go.. as far as waypoints... I totally missed my first one had to run all the way back down... was worth it tho I missed the alters
Just because you didn't make it obvious, you can choose multiple skills from one section of the skill tree, you don't have to choose one from each of the six
Hiya!! After loving Diablo & POE for thousands hours of gametime, I think you should cover Dwarven Realms releasing at the end of September, even in its early acess it been a massive blast combining POE-like gearing system combined with Roguelike of Vampire Survivors + Action RPG feeling of BDO in 3rd person being able to animation cancel dashes etc! And the Devs keep pushing out significant updates, changes and fixes daily and the community on discord is really chill and helpful
This game is such a mental load when you start out. Diablo 3 was intuitive & flowed so well. Diablo 4 feels like I’m taking a PHD course with a million connecting variables. Any advice from you veterans? I need like basic yet quick overviews of what’s worth paying attention to and what’s not. As a veteran, what do you wish you played slower to enjoy more? I remember beating Diablo 3 so quickly and was disappointed that I didn’t roam around until 2nd/3rd play through etc.
Just start playing and the game will present things to you with a natural progression. You’re not expected to know everything right out of the gate. Honestly this video is good but it is overkill for someone starting out.
Bang on advice. Still relevant. And just made my suspicions concrete. Going to do WT1 for campaign for the story. And then go ham difficulty afterwards for loot. Cheers!!
For those of you not in-the-know. USE YOUR GEMS as you level. There is zero reason not to. If you are just out-dating your gear you will never need to spend the gold to take the gems out! Fun fact everybody should know: When you salvage your armor you get your gems back (so not only do you get your gems back, but you still get all your materials you were going to for zero gold!). Now that being said. Be mindful of putting them in legendary armor you don't want to use or break down if you are trying to save gold as a starter player!
@@Dave_ja_vu As of this moment, you can still do it (I went to test it once i read your comment). It tends to not break them down automatically with the single click button. You CAN , however, still break them down manually 1-by-1 by clicking on the hammer/anvil then clicking on the item to break it down. Still works. :)
@29:30 you talk about removing gems from the sockets on a bow. I thought that if you salvaged it, it would remove the gems without having to pay for them? if you aren't going to use it again, you could salvage? I could be way wrong here. just asking. awesome video. thank you for this
Great Video, I'm trying to stay away from the Lilith map because I find it exciting when I see one out in the world, but at some point I may cave. Its a great game and this is a really good source.
New player here. EXCELLENT video. I'm going to literally watch this again and literally count how many times you say literally 😂😂😂. I appreciate the info! New sub.
I'd definitely advocate playing the game how you wanna play, if you're willing to bite the bullet and grind it on vet (albeit at a slower pace) to enjoy the game then do so! I'll probably end up taking the easy route until the end of the game then start cranking up the difficulty once I have better gear
NIce. One tip I think Blizzard should've just outright stated in-game: If you're a new player and just want to jump into the season to play with friends, you can Skip the Campaign, BUT if you haven't yet unlocked the mount (horse), go do that campaign quest BEFORE you click the Skip button. Otherwise, you're mates might be on horses while you're on foot. And there is no Unskip button. --- I played a bit of the campaign just to figure out mechanics and get some levels before joining my friends (got to level 12 or so), but then skipped the campaign to do the Season 2 content with them. Well, it sucked not having a horse. Had to create new character, played thru Acts 1, 2, 3 to get the mount quest (almost 2 weeks, 2-3 hrs each night). I think Blizzard should've made that clear up front for new players going into Season 2.
Fair point and each to their own but wow ur missing such a good storyline line, honestly it's so good but that's all opinion based I guess and it should give you a horse if ur gonna skip, otherwise ur fuked with no mount, so an oversight on their behalf, I think if they realised this they'd auto give you the mount because it's a stupid thing to do if someone plays out the scenario you experienced. Aside from that, I love the lore and the story and the book of lorath is fuking sweet.
@@davehoweth5368 Oh sure. I did actually enjoy doing the story through Acts 1 2 and 3. I may even go back someday to finish but I'm guessing one would need to start from the beginning again. I mainly just wanted to play Diablo with friends with very little spare time to do solo games anymore. But yeah thanks
@@simcoe8157 yeah, everyone has there own personal lives and limit time to play, it's defo an oversight from blizzard to let u skip the camp and then not give u the mount lol. Especially now the mount actually works it's a huge deal not having it.. Its a good point you make and should mention it on the devs channel. Probs won't listen, there's so many little daft things like that they need to sort.
Just a tip, save obols chace from quests in stash and roll at vendor from lvl 53 i think to add the possibility for sacred and ancestral lvl (70) weapon types aswell.
This is super helpful. I'm not quite to level 30 yet but got a legendary bow for my Rogue by rolling the dice with obols. I had got crap like three times before on other random stuff.
thank you for this - as someone who played OG Diablo on the fam computer when we all had to share (so ofc didnt learn much at all being a lil kid with no patience till i realized i did love these style of games later on lol) Diablo 4 is essentially my first REAL diablo experience and i'm sure i'm overthinking it a lil (doing necro) but also watching vids like this just to give me an idea (Esp with things games idk - ie i dont need an example for pokemon or xenoblade lol) it helps a lot not just to help me learn/get an idea but hype me up as well.
My favorite aspect they haven't changed since Diablo 2 is the vendors selling items for amounts of gold you will NEVER acquire at a low level, and as you level up you have no need for said items in the vendor. Why even have them? Lol
If your new to the game and you completed the campaign just recently and decided to make an Alternate Character i highly suggest to SKIP THE CAMPAIGN!!! It does not give you any xp the only xp your getting is from killing ads trust me I completed the campaign 4 times mainly because I was helping my friends complete it and the only xp I was getting was when i was completing Act 1 - Act 6 on my first time playing the campaign unless you really like the campaign and want to go through it and don't care about xp I would honestly do the campaign again it has an awesome story and Amazing cutscenes obviously lols

I started with my daggers, unlocked bow..couldn't use daggers anymore unless I swapped the skill. Had no idea how that worked. Still a ton I don't know but man this really helped thank you.
Very helpful. I’ve been doing every single side quest and it’s getting boring
you should focus more on getting to world tier 3 (finishing main campaign and clearing capstone dungeon). You'll be able to get better equipment there
I just started and I was the same. I generally do side quests to level up for main quests however with this game the quests level up also. WTF?
@@pastormosesmaloney1604 yea man. As you level up, the monsters level up as well. This means you never really feel like you're getting stronger. You can't go to early dungeons and tank the whe dungeon, because it's gonna be just as hard. Sucks.
I played Diablo 3 extensively, so not exactly a beginner here, yet your video has some solid tips!! Thank you for this detailed tips. 5/5!
Idk if u will see this cause ur vid is over a year old but thank you for making this vid. As a newer diablo player it really helps to have a guide like this. Thanks brotha 💪🏼❤️
Happy to have helped even after this long. Appreciate the comment.
I was literally watching your vid rn playing Diablo cheers 🍻 @@Ebontis
I recommend starting on tier 2. The items will make your journey more exciting
I tried on T1 at the beginning but it just felt a little too easy to me. I dunno, maybe it's not the most "efficient" way to do it, but I like T2 better.
I feel like if you’re gonna do tier 3 and 4 starting at tier 1 seems pointless.
You get the same loot in tier 1 and tier 2 for just a smidge more gold and xp, I feel like ya it's not that worth it that much. It's more challenging for the same reward basically.
@@Yevonite27 yeah but if you’re gonna do the end game stuff starting at 1 doesn’t make sense. It’s not that much harder
@@TheKniteOwl2686 you can get to tier 3 quicker and basically skip 2 if your goal is to get to the harder content after all.
I thought the same, but I play HC and met the butcher a few times. As beginning sorc, he's no picnic...
This guide is perfect for anyone who hasn't played a video game before.
19:40 if you salvage it, the aspects can be used later at the (can’t remember the name) blacksmith or occultist.
i was thinking the same, salvaging gear with new aspects makes the aspect available at the Occultist. so as soon as you replace it you should salvage it
Here's my tip:
If you make a sorcerer, make it a female. Wtf
Yea ..why I make a big burley Druid 🫡
very helpful and easy to understand as a noob to these games, tried watching some other videos and just got overwhelmed so thank you!
I play Diablo for the first time. Thanks for good explaining. My English is bad. Keep on the good work helps me a lot.
You can pet the dogs in town
..can't believe you left that out
My first RPG and man I’m loving it, was never able to get into WoW or anything similar
I’m in the same boat but really want to pull the trigger on this game. It seems very complex for someone who’s just used to competitive shooters, but trying to not get too overwhelmed to the point I don’t wanna buy 😂 it’s really peaking my interest
Just got Diablo 4, my first Diablo game and this guide is perfect 👌🏼
As someone who just started the game because of game pass finally getting it I totally wish I'd watched this video first.I'm still in act one and i'm level thirty😅 I appreciate the good advice well done
Regarding loot, selling for gold vs scrapping - breaking down to ingredients for upgrades.
I scrap all yellow items that don’t fit my build or look exceptional for another class.
I sell the blue and ordinary gray items.
Doing this I’m able to upgrade all my equipped yellow items to tier three.
Wish I had seen this vid sooner, keep going with these please.
You get so much gold..just scrap everything lmao
I’ve been researching so much whether to buy and if so how to start and after countless videos lol I come across this video. THANK YOU. Excited to start the journey.. haven’t gamed in a decade and excited to get back into it. Was always a WoW player so I figure I’ll like this! I only have a console, so hopefully it’s still a good experience
Shame you're a wow player but only have a console :( Runescape and OldSchool are available on mobile ;)
Solid video! I made a mistake in leveling… good to know re-spec isn’t the end of the world
Got myself set up as a necromancer... love my reapers so far haha nice playing alone while not getting beat down like im playing alone.. till I hit lvl 50 I'll stay in tier 1 then I'll bump up as I go.. as far as waypoints... I totally missed my first one had to run all the way back down... was worth it tho I missed the alters
A complete newbie to Diablo and started last night. Thank you for the video.
Just because you didn't make it obvious, you can choose multiple skills from one section of the skill tree, you don't have to choose one from each of the six
Exactly what I was looking for. Excellent communication style and easy to understand! Thank you!
Thank you! I’ve been playing for a few hours before stumbling on this video and it was a tremendous help!
Great video! I really appreciate all this info and that you speak at a normal conversation pace (not speed talking). Cheers!
Glad it was helpful!
Your segment on upgrading gear was super helpful
If you are hardcore. Never enter a dungeon before you got a scroll of escape cause of The butcher
This is my first time playing any Diablo & this video really helped me!!!! Awesome video!!!!
Glad I could help!
This was the MOST helpful Diablo video I have found! Thank you! I am even more excited to get into the adventure!
Glad I could help!
Why are vendors so useless? I don't get it. Loving the game but doesn't make sense to me.
The only vender in diablo history who WAS useful was squirt lol. U gind your own loot, sell the rest
Good stuff - very well done. Although I've run the cycle of all the Diablo's there were quite a few useful tips for an aged veteran like myself.
Thank you E, still trying to puzzle this in. But always nice to get some pointers❤
That was an absolute great video, easy to follow and well explained!
The pin option has been a huge time saver.
@@tony9146 that’s what I have been doing since & it’s much more enjoyable. Having a blast
Such a cool guy you remind me of someone I used to play with all the time great video ! Just started playing Diablo 4 lvl 40 and still on act one 😂😂
Thanks is going to be my first Diablo, it's almost done installing and this video was very helpful.
Bang on advice. Still relevant. And just made my suspicions concrete.
Going to do WT1 for campaign for the story. And then go ham difficulty afterwards for loot. Cheers!!
Great guide. Just starting D4 since it's now on Gamepass.

Me watching this at lvl 35 and just finished act 1 yeaah this was amazing thank you so much for the pacing tip ESPECIALLY!
Same here😅
One of the better beginner's guide videos I have seen. Thanks
definitely one of the best beginner guides ive seen good job bud!
Wow, thanks!
This is exactly the type of video i was looking for. I just purchased the game and felt like i was going crazy with all the side quests lol
I was about to select the sorcerer and my gut told me to "how should I begin?" So glad you made this VID, thank you! See you in D2 later this week!
Just a heads up, since the latest update the option to salvage gear with gems slotted is not available
@@thrice1084 maybe on pc, but on ps5 it didn't, doesn't give you the option to click it at all
Magnificent breakdown. I am new to Diablo and it’s a little intimidating I am glad I found your channel!
@29:30 you talk about removing gems from the sockets on a bow. I thought that if you salvaged it, it would remove the gems without having to pay for them? if you aren't going to use it again, you could salvage? I could be way wrong here. just asking. awesome video. thank you for this
When you salvage an item at the blacksmith or pull the aspect off at the Occultist, you get your gems back for free.
Great Video, I'm trying to stay away from the Lilith map because I find it exciting when I see one out in the world, but at some point I may cave. Its a great game and this is a really good source.
The breaking down items tip is the best tip here! Didn't know this. Thank you.
Nice intro with the fellow sanctuary players! Love it
Glad you like it!
Great video! I agree with the part of staying in Adventure mode. For some reason I'm not able to bring up the link for the maps d2guilds?
New player here. EXCELLENT video. I'm going to literally watch this again and literally count how many times you say literally 😂😂😂. I appreciate the info! New sub.
Haha, gotta love when you over use a word and even notice it yourself. Welcome to the party.
Very nice guide
This will be my first Diablo game so jumping in feeling a little bit more prepared!
Extremely helpful! I just started playing diablo and really needed this video, thank you!!!!
Brilliant guide with nothing spoiled!
My favorite aspect they haven't changed since Diablo 2 is the vendors selling items for amounts of gold you will NEVER acquire at a low level, and as you level up you have no need for said items in the vendor.
Why even have them?
Lol
Had to do a double take. Thought I clicked on a Destiny video. Awesome sauce to have you here Ebontis.
